Call of Duty Vita confirmed for Fall release.

FIFA fans can't get enough FIFA, just as COD fans won't be able to get enough COD.

Agreed, americans love their call of duty, and you can release two call of dutys a year and it would still sell a shitload. I'm surprised Activision hasn't thought about it. Europe also loves COD but not as much as americans. Just keep releasing Fifa games every year in Europe, COD for America and Monster Hunters in Japan. Sony would be all set.

Saw that coming a mile away. If they link your character between console and handheld....oh mama.
I think that would actually make it a system seller. What adolescent boy wouldn't love to unlock perks during boring family outings, like trips to Grandma's house? The console version would obviously still be the preferred platform for most people, but being able to continue your progress, while on-the-go, would be a very enticing draw.

Iwata would disagree with you.

Consider how few titles Nintendo publish in a year, its not good. It'd also look a whole lot worse if you subtract the exceptions that prove the rule like Zumba and Just Dance.

Successful devices like Wii and DS represent a lot of money on the table, no serious business can "forget" about them. If they aren't receiving support its an entirely deliberate decision not to focus on them.

On single developers vs. Nintendo yes, which seems to be where he's speaking from. As an overall suggestion, combing all 3rd party sales, no.

I think it sell a million or two and not more. The Cod fan base won't move to the PSV. Like the GTA fan base diddling move to the PSP

Here's the thing: IT DON'T NEEDS TO.

It don't need to sell a million. It just adds to the library. People don't need to abandon their console versions, but there are people who see the benefit of having CoD on the go. That's it.

As a FIFA fan i agree lol, FIFA is probably the main reason i preordered a Vita. The thought of a true current gen FIFA on the go is too good to be true for me, COD would be awesome too.

But to be on par with the subject, I guess it's cool for Call of Duty fans, I think there's a lot of people who'd like to play it in their bed.

HUGE.

In the UK, the best selling PSP game of 2011 was FIFA 12. The second best selling was....FIFA 11.

PS3 2011
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
2. FIFA 12

Xbox 360 2011
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
2. FIFA 12

PSP 2011
1. FIFA 12
2. FIFA 11

FIFA fans can't get enough FIFA, just as COD fans won't be able to get enough COD.

Not 100% sure how FIFA relates to this but being the number 1 and number 2 games in 2011 on psp in the uk hardly means huge sales, plus how many games have actually even been released on psp here in the last year

I WILL be amazed if people actually shell out $300+ to play COD on Vita...I am looking forward to reading about this come this Fall.

This hasn't been announced for other platforms yet, is this exclusive?

BTW, has Call of Duty been proven to sell systems?

Interested...but depending on the developer.
Treyarch and Vicarious Visions are awesome and great options to do the port; but so far they've only talked about Wii U and 3DS (but since it's the "year of Treyarch" guess they could sandwich a Vita port). And n-Space (which did all the DS games) will probably do the 3DS version (which is nice actually, since that means it will be online and have voice chat too..and who knows what else.)

But the possibilities are nice. Close to the PS3 version, share the DLC, cross platform multiplayer, share exprerince, saves...really cool.

Just port black ops with more maps and call it a day

And I'd most likely buy it as well :(

No click analog is a bitch tho..

Plenty of games not targeted at casual players sold well in the early days of the Wii, then 3rd parties just started throwing either casual crap or dumbed down games at it and things went wrong, I've often wondered what would have happened had the Wii had a version of COD4 that had launched at the same time as the other versions, would it have just been a profitable million seller like the other wig COD games were or could it have been a break out multi million selling mega hit as on the hd twins, but we'll never know
That is true indeed. I might be mistaken, but i thought that he (Clear) was talking more about the later years and 3rd party support for Wii that wasnt aimed more for casual players. It was the same with the PSP in similar sense, that first it got good 3rd party support, but then it went downhill (except for in Japan).

Yeah, CoD4 was launched later than the PS3/360/PC version, but didnt Black Ops and MW3 get released at the same time for Wii? Or do you mean that it was too late then?

EDIT: I added some text.

Yeah I mean it was too late then, not releasing cod4 day 1 (along with other games that never came out for Wii) sent out the message that 3rd parties weren't interested in it

Strangely enough there are a lot of people with consoles hooked up in their bedrooms

Even stranger, I actually like playing handheld games while I'm watching TV. I know it makes no sense, but even by hearing the sound of TV while I'm playing, I enjoy it, unless it's a very story oriented game of course. I also like using my laptop while I watch TV.

You know what ? I'm actually doing this.

If UK was anything like the rest of Europe FIFA was basically the only release for PSP to hit retail besides the Essentials games in 2011.

And strangely, there's a lot of who don't. There's a lot who do and share the TV with their spouse who may care to watch TV. There's a lot who have children, and have to sit in their living room while their children watch TV but can spare enough concentration to game on a handheld, but can't go into the den to play and leave their kids alone or can't play on the big screen while the kids are in the room.

There are lots of reasons someone might want CoD on a handheld whilst staying at home.

Haha, that's why I have to enjoy my young man's life before getting into this situation

I understand. I wonder if the graphics would play a part in its popularity. But you're right, it is something that we will never know, it had to be tested first to know the true answer indeed, and it is too late for that now.

I like doing this when I am grinding in RPG games.

But spending $250 + $29.99 for the console and memory card just to play the same game on the go when they already have a console to play it on? I guess it's nice for them if they have that much money to spend on..

So then why is this the vita savior? There will be a 3ds version and shiny new Wii u version to temp consumers for sure.
The fact there's a PS3 version doesn't stop the 360 version selling obscenely well. And those two are almost the same. The chances are, a 3DS game won't be the same as the PSV one. Not that it is a 'savior'. The people who look to any single game to float any platform are always going to come up short. It never happens.

Your points actually cancels each other out. If there is a 3ds version it WILL sell more.
Unless of course the vita has strong sales all year.

Do we even know if the game will require a memory card? Even then, it doesn't matter as the game probably will receive a bundle.

While I don't believe it would have sold anywhere like 360 numbers and probably not even ps3 numbers due the graphics if the gameplay had been the same (or better as many people think the remote makes it) it could have had the potential of being a multimillion mega hit, we'll never know

What he's saying is that it offers people more incentive and reason to buy the hardware.

Having CoD on the system makes a person go: "hrm, there are quite a few games on the Vita that I might want to play"

I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't say it'd sell more. The 3DS install base will be massively larger than the PSVs in November, of course a 3DS CoD would sell better.
EDIT: Assuming relatively equal quality.

Who said that?

Call of Duty will come to 3DS, there's no question.

There wasn't one last year (Activision didn't think it would turn a profit, apparently), and even Madden isn't back on 3DS this year, so... it'll probably happen, but I wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't.

That is if someone is soley interested in CoD for Vita and nothing else. But there are many people who are interested in other games for Vita as well (this applies to every system).

I told myself I will never buy another COD.

However, if this comes out, I'm breaking my pact cause this is a perfect game for a handheld like Vita since I don't think they'll be hacking COD on vita as all console version are hacked to oblivion.

It very well might not this year, but at some point, it will.

If they have to build a specific game for 3DS, but they're just porting the 360 game to PSV, it'll make it easier to turn a profit, so they might get a year as the only handheld version, we'll see.

Funny my friend and I had 2 TVs set up side by side so we could watch TV or movies while we grinded RPGs and other games.

That is true, i agree. It is actually a bit similar situation with CoD on Vita (and maybe 3DS) now. I mean, the graphics for Vita will be lowered, but it has the advantage of being portable. Kinda like with Wii, the graphics were lowered, but it had the advantage of different controls. Naturally it is a matter of taste if people prefer portability or different controls, but both things have something different than the standard PS3, Xbox 360 and PC version.
