Need an anime that has: dark side to the protagonist, feels his methods are absolute. Thought provoking and psychological, with really well intelligent out-smarting of their "enemies".
No, it's worse than Ponyo. Nothing happens during the credits of Ponyo, you can just leave. Arrietty has an actual scene going on during the credits, one that is completely and utterly ruined by their crimes against humanity.
I wasn't expecting an ongoing plot from this show, but two plot threads were focused on in this episode that seem to be leading to some sort of eventual denouement: Miyu's relationship with Chisato and her tenuous position as Guardian of the Shinma. I'm really curious to see what comes of these.
The overall direction was rather lacking, with the climactic battle being surprisingly dull. The use of stills was clumsy and distracting. There were still some striking visual moments though:
So tonight I'll sing a song to all my friends,
Also to those we won't be seeing again,
To those I knew and those I still adore.
And I want to see once more
I just pray that you will love me,
And trust me,
Laugh with me, and cry with me,
Spend those silent times with me.
Love me evermore,
Love me evermore.
Fantastic series. Unique style, excellent music, and I was more invested in the characters' fates than for a good number of shows I've watched.
The timeskip ending was alright, but we don't even get to see Albert and Eugenie reunite (even though it's obviously implied)? Ah well, can't have everything, I suppose.
No problem. The only disappointing thing about the episode were some of the visuals (which are pretty poor compared to most of the other episodes), but I wouldn't say it deters from the content, because that's still just as fun as you'll remember it from the game.
Wow what beautiful movie, love the unsettling dark surreal world, overall I liked it but it left me a bit unsatisfied like “I wish there was more to this movie” the kind feeling you get from playing an amazing looking tech demo you know might not ever be made into a game, it’s always sad seeing good world art go unused/underused.
The Audio/soundtrack is excellent really did great job adding lot to the unsettling dark post apocalyptic atmosphere with it’s or lack thereof where all you would hear is the wind(best part of it) or the river flowing.
One of the problems I had with the movie was the horrendous pacing, yes yes I know it’s intentionally slow to build on the atmosphere and create tension but it crossed and trampled that line where it no longer added anything but aggravation(just a little but, did we really need to spend a large chunk of the movie staring at characters faces and
the waiting for her to go to sleep scene was so bad was that part also meant to put the audience to sleep so oshii could steal their eggs of innocence?
) unacceptable slow, I can see why this movie had a bad response from audiences and critics when it first came out, only to later when it became old enough to get some attention from anime viewers calling it a “Master piece” (apparently the older shit is the deeper it is)
How deep was this movie?
It was as deep as deep pan pizza with extra cheese, I did find it laughable at how hard the movie “tried” to be deep, by way of, throwing in cheap religious symbols
(carrying that cross, dove/angel fossil, zomg noah ark etc etc).
Quote from the movie
“The bird I saw,I can’t even remember where or when, it was so long ago”
“Perhaps it was a dream”
“Maybe you and I and the fish only exist in the memory of a person who is gone”
“Maybe no one really exist and it is only raining outside”
“Maybe the bird never existed at all”
Pffft hehe oh oshi
*enters angel fossil*
Lol oshi, I got flash backs of that simpson episode where the new super mall opening uses a fake angel fossil to advertise their grand opening(yes I know it pre-dates that).
Yes I liked the movie but I didn’t think it needed to degrade itself by trying so hard to be “so deep”, no real reason for this movie to be 1hour 11mins it should of been a lot shorter or I would of preferred for it be much better paced with more substance.
If you honestly believe shit like this is deep or other so called so deep anime (I’ve seen) like ghost in the shell, akira, un-go, sailor moon, evanglion, penguin drum, beyblade and black rock shooter, then you seriously have some screws loose my friend and I would advise you to stop whatever drug your taking be it glue, paint thinner, helium, cough medicine, nut meg, whipped cream or some kind of plant fertilizer, Cwarrior says to Say “No!” to drugs.
I did have a laugh reading animu fans various multiple interpretations of the symbolism in the movie after watching it.

I'd play this shit outta that game. This ep was leagues better than the last couple. Hopefully the show keeps up this kinda quality for the next ~20 eps.

Haha, I was looking over the Gankutsuou dub cast list, trying to figure out why Albert's VA sounded so familiar despite never hearing of "Kevin Hatcher", and to my surprise discovered it's a union alias of none other than Mr. JYB himself. Not sure why I wasn't able to place it right away; he's one of the more recognizable English VAs to me.
I couldn't find a good image, so here's see you next week image.
Pretty good episode. Nothing out of the ordinarily but still fun to watch. A visit to the Tower of Druaga Two Talents, talking about time lags and part two of Rin being a bus hostess. I did like the sudden Fuura magical girl transformation scene.
I really find that the Penguin Drum OP is merely okay. I really enjoy the choice of music but, by and large, it's fairly boring and rote. Just about every other major OP in an Ikuhara directed show looks much, much better than the Penguin Drum OP. For example:

Now, while I might not be a big fan of the musical choice for the Idolmaster OP I don't hate it and the animation, editing, cinematography and scene transitions are excellent. It's a really strong package.
I won't argue against the OPs for other Ikuhara directed shows (Especially the one you linked); However, the Penguindrum OP works on a few different levels for me:
1) The mellow/laid back nature of the singers voice (Yakushimaru Etsuko) was something that felt entrancing and flowed well with the patter style of the opening
2)The opening has various vogue character shots that feel appropriate and even emphasized by the music.
