The presence of dudes is a problem in all anime, not just KyoAni series. Surely there must have been another reason for Nichijou bombing!

Oh, and maru is getting a bit annoying at this point

Frankly, if I knew someone who said "TICK!" after everything vaguely positive and made a ticking motion with their finger, I'd probably want to punch them in the face. But I guess because it's in Japanese it's cute or something?

Girls weren't moe enough.

Knight of the Area 06-07:

Man, not that I'm anywhere near that heavy, but I'd love to know the details of his diet plan! XD Anyhoo, I'm still loving this show, I just had a feeling this would be a multiparter and waited for a week. Sadly it looks like the finale is actually next week, but that's okay, because I loved watching these episodes. I love soccer, and I love shonen haato. ^^;

The mystery deepens with these gifs. The character designs in Nichijou have attractive design are actually moe, unlike the abstract forms purportedly intended to represent human faces in K-On.

I saw that it was all plot-stuff and lost the interest to read. Who cares about the plot?

I don't think that even the most ardent Lagrange fan cares about the plot. Envelope actually spends time attacking the characters as well, however, which is the true point of contention in his post and valid grounds for whatever vicious retaliation we can collectively heap upon him.

Just click on them, my post is seriously worth a read. :(
I disagree with most of it. Like, you talk about hating tropes, and then bash it for not following tropes at the same time.

But yet again, we have pretty different opinions, because you like Space Pirates and I dislike it a lot, soooo to each their own.

Show needed more yukkogasms yo.
wtb show about three schoolgirls and a robot

I think that can be summed up with 'muginami sucks.'

Do you mind explaining just a little further? I'm not looking for an argument, just discussion. Which tropes do you think I'm bashing it for not having? Furthermore, I don't hate all tropes, just some! :3 And even then, it depends on execution a lot of the time. I felt that
Madoka's reaction was not executed well at all, considering the order of events, as I described.

I think that can be summed up with 'muginami sucks.'

It's a bit more than that, I also pointed out some flaws with the inherent structure of the show, and Madoka as well.

Oh, thanks, now I'm never going to be able to enjoy an episode of Lagrange ever again, as this is going to be constantly running through my head throughout...

+ mansion scene
That too, but I didn't want to spoil it. Plus it's too long for a youtube video. But yeah, it also demonstrates how Oshii uses actual visuals to tell the viewer the downside (or in the case of that scene, the downright horrifying side) to the technological world, whereas Kamiyama has the characters tell the audience before or after it happens because he is incapable of or unwilling to effectively demonstrate it through the visuals.

Isn't it amusing how all this time the Oshii-detracting SAC fans accused the Oshii GITS movies of things that SAC actually does several times worse than in Oshii GITS if even present in his movies at all? It amuses me at least.

"This isn't how you spell, write, draw or moe K-On!!!"

A mystery indeed.
Too overly simplistic to sell dem body pillows though.

Show needed more yukkogasms yo.

The truth.
*Hakase de brat*

Daaw, that lil' brat. Just as annoying as a real child professor would be.
She's still hood with me though

I do not deny the moe-ness and hnnghhhhhhh of lagrange! Sadly, those are rather unrelated to the quality of the show as a whole.

Actually, they're integral to the quality of the show. The plot is entirely throwaway and so the main draw is the massive quantites of hnnnnnnnnnnnngh. If they suddenly dropped the mecha portions and just had Madoka being genki, Lan being shy and yuri, and Mugi being an airheaded bundle of boin, it would not negatively impact my enjoyment of the show and might even enhance it.

...or do you think Denpa is quality programming because of the stimulating conversations and careful depiction of PTSD-sufferers? ;P

I will more, but like, not much now. There's too much to type back right now and I am lazy, lol

The one thing I saw was talking about how, at least I think I read this correctly, that you seem to have a problem with Madoka not following the genki girl tropes enough but then call her generic genki girl again, but then praise the character for breaking free of it in the ending.

Also I mean, look at the other
Ovids that aren't the Voxes or piloted by high members of Kiss. They're obviously mass produced units that are not going to be as powerful as the ones Villawaluigi and Madoka pilot, and they were obviously just there to buy him time.
Like, it's just a common thing in tons of shows with mecha, but from my viewpoint, I don't really see a problem with it. I just treat it like i've treated any Macross or Gundam series.
loli mugi is adorable

They're too cartoony to help otaku forget that they buy body pillows to try and have sex with cartoons.

It's about time your avatar and name lined up.

The transformation is finally complete.

...only to be undone the first time that I encounter something so overwhelmingly moe that I can't resist avatar-izing it.

How am I ignoring those episodes? They all play out the same, the story is told in the same manner. A briefing/meeting that tells the viewer what's going on -> stuff related to this briefing/meeting happens -> a character recounts what happened and gives the viewer history related to what happened -> the end.
It's hard, or rather impossible, to argue with someone engaged in blanket reductionism.
Thank you for using these exact words.

How SAC shows the viewer that the characters are in a world where you literally can't trust your eyes:
A character either spends several minutes explaining the technology and how thing X works or a quirk with the technology (because this is a cyberpunk series so random pieces of technology needs flaws even if they make no sense), and then a scene related briefly happens even though it seems like a standard scene and you probably wouldn't realize what it was demonstrating if a character didn't tell you, or, the same thing except the explanation comes after the events.

How Oshii shows the viewer that the characters are in a world where you literally can't trust your eyes (or even use them at all...):
Ghost in the Shell example
Innocence example
Indeed. I never stated that Oshii didn't explore the same ideas in his work, or that perhaps he explores them in a different (and better) manner. Still, that wasn't the claim I was refuting. You said that SAC was filled with "senseless technobable", I explained that those discussions were actually fruitful e.g. it they were actually about something in the story or world.

What you're actually complaining about is not 'empty dialogue' but an excessive amount of dialogue as opposed to visual storytelling. This is a different, and much older and far more wide reaching, argument. I don't disagree that when you're telling stories in a visual medium you should, wherever possible, communicate your story/ideas/characters/themes through the language of the visuals themselves as opposed to dialogue.

However that doesn't mean that I feel every single work needs to be like that - or that I don't enjoy shows where lots of characters talk about stuff in great detail or at excessive length. After all, I love Legend of the Galactic Heroes so if I said I hated all exposition but still liked that show I'd be a god dammed hypocrite. For me it's not inherently a problem if you make your show like that.

Now, it's of course up to what balance you feel a work should have in terms of visual storytelling vs dialogue storytelling. I just don't feel that there's anything wrong with having a characters talk about stuff. I'm not just solely looking to experience 'pure works' where everything is geared around visual storytelling without exposition.

Resist the urge! Mad Pierrot is extremely classy.

I just searched pixiv to see if anyone had drawn a moe genderswapped Mad Pierrot. I hate myself.

They aren't even as moe as the KMB designs.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that K-On designs aren't moe at all. How can I have the burning urge to protect
and inappropriately touch
something that isn't even identifiably human?

Thanks, I was looking for that pic. Ever since the first time I saw you post it, it's the first thing that comes to mind whenever there's a moe debate.

Then you are factually wrong by utterly denying even the slimmest amounts.

If I saw the slimmest amount of humanity in the K-On designs, then I would have no problem admitting that they're moe on some level!

Stellvia of the Universe 2

Well this is a surprise, plenty of unexpected comedy in this episode and even a little fanservice as well. Actually it should really be a surprise at all, Stellvia is turning out to be a fairly regular school (albeit with the aim of producing pilots of space battle-craft) and a majority of it's students are attractive specimens of the female gender (hot chicks).

One thing I seriously can't believe they did is have Steven Hawking's voice-synthesizer voice as the on-board AI voice on Shima's (the main character) ship "Bianca". An Easter Egg for English speaking fans watching the series subbed? Presumably the previous owner was an English student (as Shima configures it to speak Japanese).

This show uses a lot of CGI. The Stellvia itself along with the ships are shown as CGI on standard animated backdrop. It looked a little strange at first, but I can get used to it. It is a 2003 show, after all.

So anyway, the students of Stellvia take their first flight test in space. It's exactly what you would expect, awkward. All the theory and classroom practice means nothing compared to hands-on-experience in a Zero-G environment. The pilots are mostly female though.
Women drivers, seriously.
(forgive me)
Shima doesn't exactly do well in this...

stellvia2%205.png

All in all, this looks so far like my kinda show. There was light-hearted comedy, eye candy of various kinds, a host of interesting interesting characters and a touch of tense action and dilemma.

Having too many boring parts, I mean even the studio is redoing it with editing stuff out, so I don't even have to add anything more than that.
