If you want to be picky ill go with malformed instead

If you're going to pick on Nichijou for malformed features, might as well put the whole medium on blast.

hmmm
nah
its pretty much just nichijou faces that bother me :)
its not key level, but the 'whats wrong with your face' applies to both

Baccano! - 07

Fast, frenetic and stylish. I was overwhelmed when watching the first episode, but I stuck to it and I'm glad I decided to hang on. The writing seems like it doesn't fall victim to usual conventions and I'm just sooooooo happy with the way this show handles recap sequences. One pet peeve I have about anime is that the writers typically use contrived and expository flashbacks as a way of keeping the viewers up to speed, but Baccano's integration of recap sequences in the OP itself is such a breath of fresh air.

I'm a bit weary about this episode though. I hope this show doesn't go all
Prestige (film)
and begin to rely on its
supernatural
elements. The 1930s vibe it has going with the minimal amount of references to the
regenerating properties some of the characters possess
is pretty good without going any further into it. In other words, I'd rather have an Inception where the
the alchemy and regeneration stuff
is just a means of telling the story and doesn't become the focus of the story itself. There are so many characters that I want explored without having said elements take over much of the spotlight.

Baccano is about the characters first and foremost, but it is the immortality that ties everything and everyone together.

Black★Rock Shooter (TV) 3
I was enjoying this as aslice of life episode with nice use of the Otherworld to set the mood. Then everyone ended up crazy again. wtf

Texhnolyze 9

I'm enjoying how my perception of the characters has changed these past few eps. In the slow start, nearly everyone is presented as unlikeable to some degree save for Yoshii who is as much a stranger to Lukuss as the viewer is. Since then Ichise's become almost pitiful, Onishi is portrayed as someone trying to maintain a fragile peace more than the organized crime boss I initially took him for, and Yoshii, who was the person I identified with most early on given his pov was instrumental in learning about the city, has gone from curious to batshit. I don't know if he's losing it or if he simply never had it.

Melody of Oblivion 14

Another episode that starts strong and just gets stupid. The matador vs minotaur motif worked so well and gave us music that's too good for this series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XTvUeesQE0 All the more subtle greek mythology references give way to some horribly overt stuff in the second half of the episode.

I'm not sure what the point of this scene was short of it simply being a "Who's the bigger badass?" contest.

Glass Fleet 8-10

More good times. The garish costumes are growing on me as I finally get they're effectively status symbols. The dumber you look, the higher you are among the aristocracy. Even if you're a stealthy ninja type, you need to insure people know you're well off with appropriately placed bows.
Vetti's goal seems a bit out there and I feel the show's going to lose itself again if it drifts away from the stronger character interaction for the sake of the silly galactic conquest story. Cleo's negotation with the Duchess was awesome at the very least.

Armor Hunter Mellowlink 1

Finally something I'm actually curious about a shot rather than satisfying morbid curiosity here. Heard about this forever ago and it looks more my speed than most stuff I've watched lately.
Mellowlink is set during the same time as the VOTOMs tv series although wikipedia tells me the storylines are independant of one another. The titular character was part of a framed unit and has set to avenge his fallen comrades by killing those that set them up. Given the universe, one man vs the military is a bad idea due to Armored Troopers but Mellowlink's unit was conveniently an Armor Hunter unit so he has a bigass anti-AT rifle.

A couple shots that I think captures the feel of the show.

The real highlight of this episode: Scopedogs!

Also forgot to respond to this earlier:

It certainly works on that level, but then why make it a Trigun movie? They could have removed the Trigun pillars from it

and just made a movie about Amelia and Gasback, and not really have had to move too much around to make it work.

Why not? While having a lesser role than I expected, Vash remained the impetus of the film. I can understand how people would be disappointed it was less about him and more about two new characters as the film certainly begins misleadingly in regards to this. Frankly I think I'd been happier if it had been Vash only as throwing in the insurance girls and Wolfwood seemed to create a need for scenes with them rather than them adding anything to the movie.
Also, the reconciliation of Amelia and Gasback as well as Amelia's very existence seemed like a nice bit of vindication for Vash's pacifism. Something more tangible than simply the feeling of doing the right thing.
I'm not entirely sure I've gotten my point across as I'm having trouble articulating why I feel this way.

The Secret World of Arrietty

Ohh yeah, there's that feel-good Studio Ghibli rustic domesticity. Makes me nostalgic for the first Ghibli film I ever saw, back when Kiki's Delivery Service aired on TV this one time.

Amy Poehler's performance as the mother was the most entertaining part, being both comedically exaggerated and (as someone with a worrywart mom myself) oddly true to life.

Fairy Tail 25
tumblr_lzk32iWG9T1qg8v2oo1_500.gif

Gray is really the best in the anime, he always has such good scenes, and the dub voice for Juvia is nice. Juvia is pretty interesting in the anime.

I kind of want a Gray Natsu fight for animation quality and kicks.

I wish the funimation elite sub thing would enable it automatically playing the next video, instead of just stopping at the end of the video

There is nothing wrong retelling stories when you are the god of your own genre.

Although he did it best with Touch.

Touch had waaay too much extra curricular stuff that was obviously Adachi trying to extend the series (gymnastics?!). Cross Game suffers from this somewhat as well but as a show, I thought, stayed more on message.

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai 1 - 6

This show is awesome. Was it just or me was GAF hating on it? You guys made it some like it was some border-line pedo show but the MC is clearly not interested in any of his nieces. Also, Hina is quite possibly the HNNNNGH'est anime character ever made.

I don't know man. I clicked one random episode once on CR and in the first minute they had that hnnggh girl out of the shower. I just closed it and never looked back

My old man and I went to see it together, and when we left we both said the same thing about the character being just like my mother too. XD Easily the funniest character.

Japan was never good at showing penetration
(how does it compare to the other shounen anime out there?)

How do I think Fairy Tail compares to other shounen out there? Easily the most epic one.

But anyway, the anime has its moments but it is hindered by having only one memorable OP (Snow Fairy), kind of constantly distracting things from the action (like Happy and other characters constantly chime in, which feels distracting, though hilarious at times), but there arent too many filler episodes and recaps. Animation is nice at times once I got used to the magic circles.

Faster paced than One Piece anime, not as gorgeous as Bleach fights but has considerably less filler than Naruto and Bleach, and faster pacing. Solid.

Naw, trust me. Watch it from the first episode and you'll know what I mean.

You know, maybe I'm just not perverted enough, but I didn't think anything of that scene until I saw screencaps of it here. There's a bunch of those "oops i saw you naked" scenes that definitely fit in the creepy category than that banana.

Same, this is my first time seeing that GIF and I had never thought of it as meaning anything questionable while watching the show.

That's good to hear. Going through episode 8 right now and it's back right on track.

On a general note, I'm watching the dub on Netflix and while a grand portion of the voices are fine, they really dropped the ball on the voices for the black characters. On the other hand, the voices that are good suffer from a case of the voice actor putting on a good performance for an on-screen character whose not animated at all to match the intensity.

I agree with this post. I still feel the show has some potential to be greater than what it's been presented as so far. Hina also has too much hair. That's not a problem, but she has too much hair for a 3-year-old.

I am disappointed that the show has been licensed here in the States by Sentai but Usagi Drop remains isolated in glorious Nippon.

It's kind of cute, but I'm watching it because of my morbid curiosity on how things will turn out.

The way I see it, it'll either A: Eventually drown in it's own pedo stigma (Whether it's actually malicious in intent or not) or B: mellow out and become a slice of life Usagi Drop variant (barring the difference in quality). Either way, I think they really gotta cool it with the whole
I'm really obvious in love with you oniichan tsuntsuntsun and throw in more of that neighbor as a love interest.

You can clearly see cucumber looking foodstuffs behind Hina. The grocer was clearly being sensitive by picking the less phalic of the two foods!

Wolfwood and Meryl/Milly did feel out of place in the movie more often than not, but I felt the same way about Vash, really. It felt like a movie written about two characters that just happened to take place in another known universe. If they wanted to do that, I would have rather that been in the series. For a movie that had been anticipated for over a decade by people like me, it was just a letdown, in that regard.

I will give you that the Amelia/Gasback stuff did feel like it made Vash's presence worthwhile, but the pointlessness of the electric glove/electric arm nuke was like a "What? Why was this necessary? There wasn't any better way of bringing this up?" It just felt pretty sloppy and thrown together, and lessened the impact of their resolution since it was tied together with that string of the "plot." Yeah, I understand they kept bringing up the "what's in the box?" point many times, but we didn't get the same favor with Gasback's final attack thing. Just came out of nowhere.

Honestly, I enjoyed the movie much more than I enjoyed any of Trigun proper. Going back through the series a little while ago, I realized just how little it held with me.

It takes a more slice-of-life route, according to the novels. There's no malicious intent :p

And yeah, I want to see more of his neighbour. His senpai is also a pretty cool character and as we all know
he's hopelessly in love with her so I wonder if anything will happen between them.

Wait, so is Listen to me Girls! I'm your Father! creepy or not? I'm confused. :/

It's not creepy. Sure there's a few fanservice scenes here and there but they're not so exaggerated that it comes off as creepy. Give it a view if you haven't already.

Symphogear 07

Lots happening.
Poor Hibiki, does all the right things, gets nothing but punishment for it. Interesting what the doctor was saying, also looks like the Relic is slowly consuming Hibiki.

Tsubasa is less frigid now too, which will help.

One of my favorites from this season.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 5
It was only about time before they had Meru try and sing the Let's Draw Zetsubou Sensei song.
We had talks about playing a version of Old Maid, leap people, and through life.
Still just as good and nice to see they aren't reusing that much from earlier episodes.

Alright, I'll give it a whirl. I'm probably on some government list somewhere anyway. XD

Bodacious Space Pirates 7
tumblr_lzm8y57GA41qzg4y5o1_500.png

High school kind of makes the shows pacing feel slow, but regardless, time to spend with the crew was fun. I didnt like the reused fodder ship designs and the reused animation of Marika's run from her room to the cabin, or whatever its called. Really not much else to say, hoping for a time skip if possible?

There's every indication that it should be creepy, but it's all really harmless in the actual show.

Honestly, I don't think I'd even be watching it if (minor spoilers)
the girl's parents didn't supposedly die horrifying deaths. It seemed like such a jarring way to put them in the position they're in considering there was a good amount of character build up leading up to their "deaths". I think I actually thought "if the parents die I'll give this show a chance". But since they're talked about as "missing" it's evident they didn't actual die and will show up later >_>

Yeah, I don't understand why she's got adult-level hair as there's no way a 3 year old can grow hair that fast. Oh well, animu gonnna animu

Oh I will be so pissed if that ever happens. Buuuuut, they haven't done it in the 9 volumes of the LN that are currently out so it may be safe to assume it won't. (I think the anime will only cover the first 2 volumes of the LN)
