Bakemonogatari

I'm on episode 4 right now. I'm trying to like this show but my god there is a ton of nonsensical blabbering in it and it gets boring real quick. At least some parts where entertaining, such as when Araragi beat up that elementary school girl lol.

Well, I'm afraid to tell you that's the whole show,

Well, I'm afraid to tell you that's the whole show,

I'm considering bailing. Honestly, in this show topics of conversation come out of nowhere. Like in this episode they were discussing the PTA (parent teacher association) then like out of nowhere a whole other topic of conversation gets brought up just cause. Its like the characters MUST discuss something every second of the show no matter what. An entire episode went by literally with just the main girl and dude sitting on a bench and talking on and on and on for 20 minutes and then in the last 3 minutes he meets the elementary school girl. I mean come on.

BTW, I also noticed that when the show gets those random screens of text that interrupt the conversations midway, they have like animations detailed on them. Such as "Animation 65: 'sigh'"...I wonder if that's supposed to be some sort of weird joke or they did it to save money :|

It sounds like somebody is getting shafted!

more friendship?

And the Aestivalis March in the middle of the episode - fantastic!

Bodacious Space Pirates 2

If you like that kind of yuri hinting, you should love Pirates. And, Pirates is a legitimately good show anyway!

Don't know if I'll end up loving it, but so far I'm liking watching Not-Madoka and Not-Homura spending time togheter.

The pacing is pretty slow for the first few episodes as it introduces you to everything, but the past few episodes have really picked up the pace quite a bit.

I dont know, I think the most recent kind of slowed it down considering it was
basically a redo of the previous episode without the theatrics
.

We still have no antagonistic entity at even ep 7, which is kind of late for a 26 episode series...unless this goes the 52 episode route, somehow.

So AnimeGAF, I'm trying to compile a list of anime movies to watch that aren't Ghibli or Makoto Shinkai ones. It turns out most anime movies I have seen are from the last 5 years so I'm trying to expand to movies that are a bit older. This is what I have so far

Cencoroll
Memories
Gauche the Cellist
Mind Game
Omae Umasou da na
Perfect Blue
The Wings of Honneamise

Anything else important that I seem to have missed?

I know right? It's awesome.

Speaking of those pirates...

Boadcious Space Pirates - 06

Having no prior knowledge of the IP, I was partially surprised that
Schnitzer is actually a crew member of the Bentenmeru. I was convinced that he was going to be a villain of some sort. Now that I know he's a good guy,
I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll help Marika out in her development as the captain.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Sword of the Stranger
Angel's Egg
Metropolis
Rojin Z
Millennium Actress
Tekkon Kinkreet
The Door Into Summer

There are plenty more that are great.

Edit: Thought of a few more

Jin-Roh
One Piece Movie 6
Galaxy Express 999

Already seen it. Good movie.

Ghost in the Shell?
Redline?
what's the movie relation to the TV series?

These are the ones I haven't seen yet. Will add them to the list. I will probably watch Angel's Egg first since everyone here seems to like it

Akira, maybe?
Forgot about this for some reason. Have to watch it soon.

Well, quite a lot. Akira. Ghost in the Sell 1 +2. Beautiful Dreamer. Angel's Egg. Castle of Cagliostro. The original Gundam movie trilogy. Ringing Bell. Dirty Pair: Project Eden. Robot Carnival. Jin-Roh. Memories. Patlabor 1 + 2. Metrolpolis. Sword of the Stranger. One Piece Movie 6. Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The Wings of Honneamise.

Oh, and a ton of OVA's.

I have only seen the unbolded ones, but god damn this list just keeps getting bigger. I'm gonna stay away from OVAs for now and probably the Gundam movies since I have eternal hatred for anything Gundam.

I believe they are independent of each other.

Ok will watch them then.

That's the entire appeal of the show. Some hate it, some don't. If you dislike it, abandon it now, it won't change. Especially in Nisemonogatari, which is currently nothing but fanservice and longwinded conversations.

It sounds like you should work on your bias!

Alright I'm dropping it then.

I'm extremely hyped for the next Another episode to be finally released on Crunchy. The cliffhanger at episode 6 was too much.

Snakes are so passé. It's all about eels in 2012.

Just finished episode 7. Still passe, Shuffle did that back in the Memories edit of Shuffle. Is the series bombing or something? While the fanservice has always been pretty high, seems like a new high (or a new low) for the series.

I think Tatsuo said something about there being no romance in Lagrange, no? Friendships without romance! Lol.

You would be correct.
Director Sato Tatsuo tweeted that he has excluded all the romance elements from Moretsu Pirates and Rinne no Lagrange. He said it's an experimental approach to compose the scripts focusing on the friendships without romance, but he believes something unexpected will be created in such an old-fashioned way.
So I wonder if this episode was part of the "unexpected" then.

Tell me about it. Another has to be my current favorite show airing right now. It used to be P4-The Animation-, but it got boring after a while, especially if you've played the game more than once like I have.

Also, fuck 4chan for spoiling the entirety of Another for me.

It sounds like you should work on your bias!

It's not like I have never given the series a fair try. I have watched Unicorn, 00, Seed, Wings and like half of the original Gundam, and I found them all to range from boring to rage inducing. But I don't know, maybe I'm just watching the bad ones.

Well, to be fair, there are many bad Gundam shows and yes, by and large, you've watched pretty crappy ones.

I personally recommend Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

Finally listening to the Penguindrum half of the podcast. You can tell the guy they invited is just another anime reviewer. The analysis of the characters and the themes feels a lot more "forum-esque" compared to the Utena discussion.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 9
xriVV.jpg

Not as great as last season's everyone being moeblobs, but close enough.
Fun episode with showing how much popular Negima is over this. Start with emergency presents, then a fun quiz show where the correct answer is the wrong answer and then your range in doing creepy stuff.

Anime Network is putting up the Broken Blade movies up on their site for streaming. Worth it? I need some good mecha anime to tide me over until the next Gundam Unicorn/Rebuild of Eva release.
If you're dying for a mecha show, maybe. Having read the manga, I feel they botched the best moments of it.

I did find that kind of jarring as well,
also the fact that they make an effort in trying to turn Rei into a manly character in the eyes of Nanako; a pseudo-justification for it not being a homosexual relationship
. Maybe we can just blame it on being a confused teen or something, but that seems like a cop-out.
It's funny that I don't mind
fake lesbians
when it's just dumb service or whatever, but the moment it takes place in a serious context I find it fairly disappointing.

Well, I think you're quite on the money with that comment. However, in all fairness, Penguin Drum is a much more recent show so I can see why they'd still be at a 'formative' stage in their analysis of the work. It just doesn't help that it comes immediately after their superb Utena discussion.

I felt the exact way that you did. That arc is shit, but the two episodes I've seen after it have been an improvement. There are at least things happening that provide some kind of framework for the talking, unlike episodes 3, 4, and (to a slightly lesser extent) 5.

That said, I wouldn't fault you for dropping it. I'm not crazy about it even when it's on point.
