The Light of El Cantare
Yeah if there's one thing it's that I have no idea what the point of the whole alien nonsense is, outside of the obvious connection to the Onegai Whatever shows.

They've gotta shoehorn in drama somehow, so a
fall in love then have to leave Earth
scenario is a cheap way to do that.

I've actually seen people do that. Welcome to the future.

Lol I don't want that at all, but would be a hilarious troll.
Think that thought just came to me as an 'anime' version of
new life can defeat death
thing from Final Destination.
Is that really a thing in Final Destination? Because
that's identical to a theory I had on the backburner based on Sakakibara being born when his mom died and the calamity stopped.

edit: that came out sounding way more pretentious than I intended.

I don't agree. Aside from the fact that I don't exactly subscribe to the distinction between low-brow/fine-art--as you can probably gauge from the line of idea that I'm spouting, I believe it to be nothing more than unnecessary statement of deviation from some archaic, elitist norm; a fancy way of saying 'alternative,' and assembling the hierarchy. I don't think that to be wrongly reducing--I think that all artistic endeavors need a bit of good guidance, and in no way believe that helping-hand to be terrible/'creativity-constricting'. A message is always better when understood, right? With that said, I do subscribe to the notion that with restraint comes the most innovation, in all endeavors, really.

There's a balance somewhere that satisfies everybody, but for me, I'd rather experience a media and come out mystified and confused (Tree of Life) than have that media insult my intelligence by pounding its message home (Atlas Shrugged). It not only destroys the artificial reality that these works usually attempt to create, but it also makes it harder for me to really appreciate the message.

I think a "message" works best when the reader has to meet the work halfway at some point, and understand for themselves why the message is there, and what it means. If the reader doesn't have to do any work, then it doesn't really belong to them. At least, that's how I feel.

I think that there was probably room for Penguindrum to be clearer before it reached the point of insult, and while I don't know the specifics of those early Disney projects, I think that, in general, the company often find a pretty good balance in their best work at making the moral apparent without rubbing your face in it. But personally I'd prefer some ambiguity over 100% complete clarity of message for every viewer.

Yeah
they thought a pregnant woman who they thought was supposed to die giving birth would defeat death.
turned out she wasn't supposed to die so it didn't help

It's actually not as good without the screaming.

The TV airings are barely censored as it is. The uncensoring on BDs won't make that much difference, especially since the
face-melting
sequence is entirely uncensored to begin with! So far the only censoring seen has been
the umbrella neck-impalement and the knife stuck-in-throat
and everything has been left uncensored, including the
face splattering as it hits the bottom of the elevator!

There's still a couple more things I want to see, including this episode's beginning as well. I enjoyed the Umineko post-release because of that (but that was a different story).

The message in Penguindrum isn't a mystery at all. I think its flaws are related to other things.

I guess the biggest takeaway here is to always bet on Mihoshi. Also, that Jurai royalty family tree must be one impossibly tangled mess.

And speaking of tangled messes, I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to go from here. Talk about a fragmented franchise.

Maybe you can just stop right there, while it's still a good show.

Lots of classy camera angles this episode. And please put some damn clothes on Mio.
Keep your underwear on too

Remon's trolling is approaching legendary levels now.

Damn, that's one nice looking set.
It's pretty much the nicest boxset of anything I've ever laid hands on. Even the plastic of the dvd cases looks and feels different from standard fare. (or maybe I'm delusional, both are likely)

Need to buy an external bluray drive so I can screenshot stuff. And watch it on my computer too, I guess.

My Honneamise was picked up from the office today~
(sorry for the cruddy phone pictures)

It's so beautiful~
Sadly, however, the resealable wrap is pretty much worthless. It's torn in about four places (it was like that when I got it), but I went ahead and taped it back together the best I could. I'll probably hold on to it in honor of Pizzaroll telling me about the price. Thank you, sir. : )
Well the main purpose of the resealable wrap is to protect the box from dings on the shelf. Keep it!

I am, but it's going to fall apart after about five times of opening it up, I fear. I'm honestly surprised the case itself isn't damaged, since it almost looks like it was cut, because none of the tears (sans 1) appear to be directional/related to the design. They're just random slices or something. Who knows?!

fortunately this is becoming more and more a thing of the past... unless you're nintendo and have some weird grudge against people who import games :/

I agree completely, and that balance is a funny one; Yuasa is a great example here. Some say he masturbates on the screen, some say his messages come poignant. I personally align with the latter camp, but can see how some would see it other way.

The heck is The Unbound Uguu and the Eternal Tsun?
"You have disgraced our vows for the last time!", vociferated the intruder to contents of his lungs. "I see this wench's belly and despair, for that seed you have gifted the whore was meant to be our offering to the gods!"

Instro plunged his spear swiftly into the bed sheets. The couple barely escaped his homicidal attack, stumbling on the floor while trying to compose themselves from the abruptness of their danger. They had barely gotten to the doorway when the weapon lodged itself into wood, missing Firehawk's ear by a few inches.

"What the hell is wrong with you!?" Branduil exclaimed with a voice that was a vortex of disbelief and fear. He wrestled with the doorknob in a vain attempt to free himself from the confusion, but the adrenaline running through his veins only made his motions more uncouth. His attacker was already on top of Firehawk by the time he realised the futility of his actions.

"Observe!" Instro manifested with a boastful cry. "Observe how I slain the harlot in your name! My hands will glow red with her sinful blood! The streets of this criminal city shall shrink in terror from our glorious love!" He beamed his gaze violently at his long-lost lover. The silence that set after that thunderous oath dared Branduil to stop him.

I think the gif affected me.
I come back to this thread and read that someone is writing erotic fanfiction about 2 other members?

It's actually "about" 2 members but several other members who are fucking awesome have appeared or will appear in it. You should be praying that you are fucking awesome enough to earn a cameo mention.

I think it's worth pointing out this isn't the first time such a thing has happened.

This show moves shockingly fast sometimes, in a really good way. The episode was ending and it felt like no time had really passed, so I guess it's undeniable that I'm pretty engaged in this. Another is doing a pretty good job of skirting along the edge of darkness, but in many ways this sets a pretty high value on that inevitable plunge into that gloom. My hopes are placed in the show getting that right, and the stage is being set well for such a thing.

Suddenly I am feeling all yandere. Life imitating fiction?

That's bullshit. If anyone was supposed to get the yandere cameo, it was supposed to be me. Whatever, it's clear that Reg doesn't actually have a clue about making the story fit our forum personalities, he's just throwing names out and inserting them into his scenarios.

School Days 07:

Dammit, Makoto, stop being such a spineless, indecisive pussy.
If you still don't have the decency to break things off cleanly with Kotonoha, at least stop people from verbally abusing her over shit that's your fault to begin with
.

Also, everything horrible that happens from here on out is Setsuna's fault. I'm surprised, kuuderes are not usually as stupid as her.

...well shit. Um, Mio, sorry for what I said I guess?

I did like
Kaito's line of, essentially "I don't want to be chased, I want to be the one doing the chasing", it perfectly encapsulates and contrasts everything that is wrong with the animu harem genre.
Dude's also a boss when he wants to be. Too bad for the inevitable
alien junk ruining everything for a time.
Also, thinking about it,
Tetsuro is kind of an asshole for telling Kaito about Kanna, that's just going to make it that much worse for her and everyone else when her heart gets brutally ripped from her chest.

Unfortunately, I think the show is running into the Ano Hana/last few eps of Toradora problem of ratcheting the melodrama up a few notches over what is necessary, and it runs the risk of pushing too hard and ruining what up to this point has been a solid, if generic, story. Also seriously, if the show is going to use the alien thing as anything more than a convenient outlet for requisite endgame drama, now would be a good place to start. On the bright side, it is written competently unlike Ano Hana, and stuff is actually happening. I'm interested to see how the final product will ultimately stack up, but overall I approve.

Remon is still the best character.
