Well, while the comparison between Skyrim and an MMO is pretty stupid, I also think ArenaNet should make stealth the special skill and put stealing in the slot skill caetgory.

I personally dislike the emphasis on stealth that most MMOs place on the rogue/thief/assassin archetype. It forces them into an all-or-nothing combat approach where they either destroy their target before they can react or their target crushes them (because they have to have more weaknesses to balance the front-loaded damage). Rogues in WoW, for example, have to rely on ganking because the second they lose their first-strike advantage, they're gimped.

Stealing, on the other hand, is a more interesting mechanic; knowing what items each enemy will give you and making a decision on whether to keep a specific item in your 'pocket' for a specific circumstance is more interesting to me than creeping around and trying to dance behind somebody for an attack. A Thief who knows what to steal and when to use it will be wildly unpredictable (I just hope you can bring stolen items into PVP matches)

In GW2, Stealth seems to exists as an evasion mechanic or an opportunity to deliver a burst of damage, but because of the short duration it's not something you can use to sit around safely waiting to pick off a weak or lone target.

Being a jackal doesn't strike me as being very cool, but then lots of people like the idea of playing an assassin who plays dirty. I was surprised that the Thief didn't get a Rifle as a weapon choice with lots of 'sniper'-like abilities; the shortbow gives some neat ranged options, but it would be interesting to have something like the Mesmer's Spatial Surge (Damage increases based on range from target).

I like melee classes, so after Guardian and Warrior, I'm looking at Thief next. Not sure what I'll end up doing but I at least want to give them a try.

Sign up for beta?!?!?!?!?!?!?

GO GUYS GO!

500 - internal server error out the yinyang. I bet they're getting pounded.

Edit: aaaaaand signed up! I said I didn't really want in because it would make waiting hard, but the idea of getting to play GW2 in the future... makes me even harder.

Anyone else looking forward to still playing as a human in GWars 2?

I have a feeling we're gonna see tons of charr
I think my first character will be human. I sometimes find that I get disconnected from my character if it's not human, makes it harder to relate or something. Human's always a safe but I think. My second would definitely be charr though, or maybe sylvari.

Ranger for me (Human). Early on in GW1 they were kinda underpowered and never wanted in groups, but eventually they were balanced to be pretty decent damage dealars and support characters.

Wait there's no point in being a furry if everyone else is going to be a furry.

My order of interest goes from:
Charr
Sylvari
Norn
Asura
Human

Professions:
Thief
Mesmer
Engineer
Necromancer
Ranger
Guardian
Elementalist
Warrior

I was until I heard the Human Female in combat and all the yippy noises they make, they're like a corgi chasing toddlers. That sort of thing would get on my nerves too quickly and I really don't want to hate part of my character or play with the sound off. Hopefully they change it or something.

Leaning towards Norn now. I might make a Char for the hell of it though. Also might consider a Sylvari depending on what customization options they have. Some of them are just a bit too leafy and strange looking for my tastes, though it's definitely a more interesting look than the "They're brown elves that live in trees, we'll call them wood elves!" approach that most MMOs use.

I wonder if it'd be possible to just upload the scannertron somewhere and let people try from there. (I mean now that the page is down) It might be illegal tho.
