Well, while the comparison between Skyrim and an MMO is pretty stupid, I also think ArenaNet should make stealth the special skill and put stealing in the slot skill caetgory.
I personally dislike the emphasis on stealth that most MMOs place on the rogue/thief/assassin archetype. It forces them into an all-or-nothing combat approach where they either destroy their target before they can react or their target crushes them (because they have to have more weaknesses to balance the front-loaded damage). Rogues in WoW, for example, have to rely on ganking because the second they lose their first-strike advantage, they're gimped.
Stealing, on the other hand, is a more interesting mechanic; knowing what items each enemy will give you and making a decision on whether to keep a specific item in your 'pocket' for a specific circumstance is more interesting to me than creeping around and trying to dance behind somebody for an attack. A Thief who knows what to steal and when to use it will be wildly unpredictable (I just hope you can bring stolen items into PVP matches)
In GW2, Stealth seems to exists as an evasion mechanic or an opportunity to deliver a burst of damage, but because of the short duration it's not something you can use to sit around safely waiting to pick off a weak or lone target.
Being a jackal doesn't strike me as being very cool, but then lots of people
like the idea of playing an assassin who plays dirty. I was surprised that the Thief didn't get a Rifle as a weapon choice with lots of 'sniper'-like abilities; the shortbow gives some neat ranged options, but it would be interesting to have something like the Mesmer's Spatial Surge (Damage increases based on range from target).
I like melee classes, so after Guardian and Warrior, I'm looking at Thief next. Not sure what I'll end up doing but I at least want to give them a try.
