SSX Demo: Feburary 21; (Euro PSN) February 22 [Up On Xbox Live/PSN]

Finally got the hang of bailing out of a grind. Just rewound the grinding part until I got the hang of it. Now just a couple of kinks in the later part of my run that I need to work out. I'm coming for your time Dragnet.

Couldn't get passed 17 mill for the longest time. Would have great runs and then lose it at the bottom because of those dumb logs. Finally beat soultron (albeit barely) again. Landing anywhere near logs just completely screws up my line.

18.4 mill or at least somewhere around there anyway. I just need to make my line cleaner and I'll be able to fly past that. I just have one or two jumps a run that put me off course.

Sweet. I got 29.3 million last night : O Sent you a FR

Played til I had 990,000 credits after I got that score, couldn't beat it. And I don't even like score attack games. WTF SSX.

I've hit a wall with my time on Race It. I got 1:47.99 and haven't been able to beat it. Same route as in the last video except before the first tunnel I didn't jump early. I got on the left a little and rode down the side instead until you catch some air to activate Super Tricky. In the last tunnel, I did not grind on the small hump in the middle and stayed to the right instead. Anyone got tips? No one on my friend list is good as you can see so I have no ghost to race against. D:

Never played an SSX before so I tried the demo last night. It was decent but I found the tricks to be too over the top and mashable. The environments were nice though. Also that chick they start you out with? That faux martial arts shit she does in the chopper before jumping is just extremely goofy and cheesey. Every time I saw it, I cringed. What were they thinking? Oh and the music was poundingly bad as well. Commercial techno crap that goes faster when you achieve higher trick levels? How astoundingly original.

Pass.

Man...you're a beast.

They're thinking that she's Zoe and that's the way she's always been in the series.

The tricks being over the top - no, everything being over the top - is kind of the point. SSX is an arcade snowboarding game, it doesn't try to be realistic at all.

And sure, you can just randomly mash tricks if you want to, but that's not how you get the biggest scores.

The characters are meant to be goofy and weird, that's part of it being an SSX game. But in the end, who really cares what a character's personality is like when you're speeding down the slopes? SSX isn't a story- or character-driven game, it's all about gameplay.

Oh and the music was poundingly bad as well. Commercial techno crap that goes faster when you achieve higher trick levels? How astoundingly original.

It's a good thing the game will support custom soundtracks, then.

Can I share that video over MC, is that okay with you? Some SSX3 vets can't get below 1:50 on PS3 and don't know anyone who's made it that low on the console.

Also, I got 1:46.43. I do a lot of little things differently. And I didn't have any kind of Tricky in the last rail.

Yeah, go ahead. I just registered there actually and would post it myself, but I have to step out for awhile.

Wtf? details.

I really don't understand why devs put primary functions on the L2/R2 on PS3. They should be switched to the 1s.

Holy fuck that was epic.

I'll let you post it yourself then, when you come back.

Also, I'm not sure I wanna share :D Alright, here are a few bits:

- On that first rail you use, bail out of it sooner.
- On the jumps before that rail, I actually use the left side and cut a bunch of time on it.
- My boost management is different, but I'm not sure it's better.

This is how it's looking on Xbox 360 so far

Btw if anyone wants to add me on XBL, please send a message saying you're from GAF.

Man, I have no clue how everyone passes me on that first jump on JT2. I don't know what I am doing, and I've tried everything I can think of to get ahead. After that it just becomes a joke and I end up being like 10 secs behind my rival by the first rail. My lowest time is like 2:06 or something like that.

Are you tricking out of the heli to earn immediate boost?

Absolutely loving the demo and it feels so good to be playing SSX again. Surprisingly I'll probably end up with the 360 version if all other things are equal just because the DualShock 3's "triggers" just don't cut it for this.

I also am trying to switch to the new controls. They seem like they'll be simpler in the end. The classic controls now feel very busy in comparison.

I finally played this today and mustered a craptacular bronze on the rockies stage. For some reason stunts that look perfect in the air with a level board and everything just completely cock up on landing. This does feel very similar to the old SSX games though, looks to be plenty of content too.

Bail out sooner? Get off while in the middle of the curve? And the three jumps before the rail, the left one is faster to trick off? Jump off of the ramp or just fall off of it. I don't want to play the demo anymore tonight. I shouldn't play the demo anymore tonight, but my heart is telling me yes. Time to go back in. >.>

How can I put it... It's between the actual jump and the rock. A little spot there I jump early at so I shave off some time. And just experiment with bailing out from that rail earlier, there's a lot of combinations to get out of there faster than you're currently getting.

Also...

... DO NOT PLAY. DONT YOU DARE BEAT ME.

I have a life to live, please.

I'm stuck at 2:06. My mind is bamboozled at how to keep a clean line while maintaining boost throughout the race.

Have you tried zooming the camera all the way in? It changed my life. For some reason I find it easier to hold my line in that camera view, but I'm not entirely sure why. Also, tricky tricky tricky.

Put my pre-order back in at Amazon for 360 version. I'm done canceling and re-ordering. Played the demo for another hour tonight and I'm hooked in despite being OK at racing, but god-awful terrible on the trick run.

Played the demo and found it provided a nice change of pace. Not really my type of game, but I'll Gamefly it for a breath of fresh air for sure.

Topped out at around 16 mil on Bulldog..buttering to extend your combo actually hurts your bottom end, I've noticed. Makes more sense to just boost and keep going for more.

Yeah the character animations before and after the race are not good. Check the great animations from the SSX Tricky character selection screen or the intro in comparison.

Hmm, I'm not getting that jump right then because it seemed slower. I'll try that a bit more. Now getting off of the rail earlier did help a bit. I got 1:47.66 no problem once I managed to dodge those red rails. Those things are like magnets I swear. I don't think I'll beat you tonight. I'll only try for one more hour because I have a class in the morning. I'll upload something if I do better than 1:47.66. I doubt that I will tonight though.

Noooes! I hope you have some surprise test Saturday haha!

What are some good tricks to pull off to get more boost meter? I can't get past 2:21 no matter what I try. I'm always running out of boost, or when I have tricky, I can't keep it.

That's my issue. I know the correct line and I have it down but I just can't maintain boost.

Have I got a game for you! It's called Repetitive: First Person Shooter

Atleast the guy who got that crazy score wasn't glitching, here's his run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk_lQKA-TgI

INSANE start, need to get really creative.

Yea .)

As I said in the other thread -

Now, the super high scores seem like they are exploited ..... or valid. But this raises some questions about them.

Good to see that this run is valid :)
But I still think they will wipe the trick scores when the full game comes out.
