Sad story about a young footballer, who died aged 19 after failing to make it big (and going down the path of smuggling drugs...)

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/the-tragedy-of-a-young-talent-who-could-not-handle-failure-7440558.html

It's interesting, the amount of players that must come and go through academies. Must be hard for those who don't make it, especially starting as young as 9/10

I'm pretty sure Liverpool have a psychologist working with the academy to help prepare players for all of what being a footballer brings, but support needs to be there for when players are released.

Super Tom's right foot injured.

Was the left last time.

Philosophical Salazar sees this as grounds for optimism rather than despair. I admit the rationality of an opposite reading.

Football should be played for fun, if you happen to be good enough, great. If you're not, you still should have completed school and you can still go to college. We all wanted to be a footballer when we were young, right?

I guess they put a lot of pressure on these kids from a young age though.

Owen Coyle chairing a tactical meeting.

Edit: omg

Ashley Cole will seek to join Barcelona in the summer if Chelsea stick with beleaguered boss Andre Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese is under fire following a disappointing debut season so far at Stamford Bridge and has fallen out with several senior players in the Blues' dressing room.
Cole is understood to be one of those players and was left on the bench for the 3-1 Champions League defeat at Napoli on Tuesday, along with Frank Lampard, and Michael Essien.

You massive deluded twat.

Stevie G on football focus. Gonna get a Spar Glucose energy drink in preparation, and a pack of bacon to cure this hangover. I refrained from posting here last night, always a bad idea after a few.

Paul Merson is irredeemably stupid. I'm watching soccer saturday and he's refusing to give Napoli any credit for beating Chelsea.

He thinks Chelseas were the better team and Napolis goals were just luck. Direct quote "Napoli wouldn't even be a football team without Cavani and Lavezzi". Thats a bit insulting imo.

It's harsh and way overstated but Napoli's defense was almost as shit as Chelsea's in that game. A better team would have slaughtered them with the possession Chelsea had in the final third.

I know Napoli were poor in defence but it annoys me that Merson can't see anything good from Napoli.

They could've scored 5 against Chelsea but he ignores that and says they were still lucky to win.

Gary Neville was spewing the same nonsense as well, but it's probably because they work for Sky. They don't want to make the second game seem like a dead rubber.
