Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 confirmed for Nintendo DS

They have 2 development teams. This is obviously a game by their usual "remake team" (HGSS, FRLG) while the main team is working on either Gen VI or RSE remakes for 3DS.
I have a feeling you play as a kid from Hoenn (N flew somewhere after all) then you go to Unova afterwards
Cyrus should be starving to death in the Distortion World, but I guess Ghetsis is still up in the air. And we do have that minor hook, with the Shadow Triplets giving the creation trio's orbs...
I really need to stop thinking about this.
There are multiple teams inside Gamefreak. Chances are the remake team did this to give extra time for the "A" team to develop next gen's engine on 3DS, like they did with HG/SS before. The only difference is that they're releasing a game during this development time rather than just letting the spinoffs fill that void.

Could they not have focused both development teams to work on the 3DS game? I'm just saying it's not like they couldn't have not worked on this and instead worked on a 3DS game, nothing was stopping them.

Why? This game will probably sell at least 10 million copies (the 3rd game in a series usually does worse).
I have programming knowledge, but I know nothing about engine development, but I don't think they can just throw people at it in order to make a game twice as fast.
They could have, but it's not like that would've sped up development significantly (especially since GF was one of the first to get ahold of a 3DS devkit and we're still waiting to see anything major from them), and that would be a long period to not have any mainline game releases.
The levels are way higher on the DS version. Maybe you're just smarter now?

I don't know why the 3DS being out would dampen your enjoyment of a DS game. Do you never replay any of your DS library, or is it all ruined now that a newer system is out?

I really don't understand how people think this is worse than "here's the same story with a Battle Frontier and 5 gimmick battle trainers". The platform bitching I can get, but if they execute this properly, it's one of the more forward thinking things they've done with the franchise in a long time.

So what do we get here? Some new formes and maybe at best a couple new PKMN but not the usual 100+!
I'm guessing that they are saving the best for 3DS as in they want it to be mindblowing and overhaul the whole thing. So they probably need a bit more time or just don't to waste that opportunity on the third version.

There won't be new pokemon. New formes is a given but this is still a gen v game so new pokemon is unlikely.
Why are people treating this as a new generation?
It clearly isn't, they're just deviating from the standard 3rd release.

I just thought that if we take into account this game could happen in Hoenn plus it's going to be released 3 months earlier than usual, it looks like they want to get rid of the 2 past gen remakes and 3rd version in one sitting as soon as possible to start the 6th Gen earlier than usual (2013 in Japan instead of 2014).

It's weird how soon it's coming out. I've been paying attention to these releases since Platinum, and while they all do get revealed around this time of the year, they'd always release the following September. I guess this whole situation is unprecedented, but it still makes me wonder these are being released three or so months earlier than usual.

I do wish that it was 3DS for the Streetpass/Spotpass features, but we're going to get a 3DS game someday. Black/White 2 is definitely preferable to Gray at least, since it implies significantly more/different content.
My wishlist of features:
+Battle Frontier
+toggle for Running Shoes
+Pokemon sprites following you
+more triple/rotation battles
+improved Dream World functionality
+auto-level to 100 on Wifi
I feel like those top three are most likely since those were in HG/SS.
Also, I'd like it to take place in a different region of the U.S. I feel like we're pretty much guaranteed to see a Poke-verse version of the Golden Gate Bridge, considering how much Masuda likes it. Maybe not in B/W 2, but at some point in the series (if it's really a trilogy, they could save Unova-West Coast for B/W 3 and have B/W 2 be based on Chicago or New Orleans or something).

Having a 3DS, there's nothing a DS game could do that a 3DS port couldn't do better, and if anyone should be in the best position to do that with the least hassle it's Nintendo and those companies intimately associated with them. Six years ago this was the case with GBA/DS, and they split the difference by releasing versions of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon for both systems.

Sure but that doesn't make BW2 unplayable. Who cares when they come out? Judge them as their own games.
3ds versions of pokemon will probably use 3d models, though. sprites make the ds the superior choice. ;(
3DS versions would have 30% less play time per charge.

plus 3d models can be pretty cool, just look at dragon quest. Pokedex 3D being ugly is just something else entirely

I don't mind it on the DS. I'm not sure if I want Pokemon to become 3D. I mean yeah, it would be cool and Pokemon needs something to spice it up, but it just looks so cute in 2D ^_^
Besides, I don't have a 3DS, so I will play theis and Devil Survivor 2 before I buy one.

Excited, as I haven't bought a 3DS yet. I've often said to myself that I'd wait to see if Nintendo released their next mainline Pokemon game for it, which they obviously didn't. Shows they have no faith.

I really wanted to fight the Shadow Triplets... also, I think an order of fell "Knights" would be awesome and tie into the medieval theme that Black/White had.
Basically, geek that shit out.

Just noticed the legendarys have reversed and White will now presumably feature the Reshiram fusion. Gamefreak probably assumes people will stick with their color choice and the story will deal with this accordingly.
