What's the next consumer electronics expo/conference?
Cebit is in a week.
What's the next consumer electronics expo/conference?
i doubt they will talk about Apollo. Especially since it really depends on Windows 8's development timeline.I expect MS to talk about wp8 later thsi week when they release win 8 consumer preview. But then we wont hear anything until they do a confrence for windows 8 later this year, at that point the mother load of info will come out

The Skype app is a perfect example how the Metro Design should be used, IMO. Looks MUCH better than any other Skype app, it's clean and fast, it doesn't overuse the color contrasts like many other apps do, and it has enough of its own character while still looking distinctly Metro.
And it appears to be US only![]()

"Taking advantage of the expanded hardware support, the new Nokia Lumia 610 (above) is Nokia’s fourth and most affordable Lumia smartphone. ZTE has also unveiled their second Windows Phone, the ZTE Orbit (below), which will be available in the second quarter of 2012."
Also, what happened with the LG Fantasy? :S

This is part of a bigger move by Microsoft to get Windows Phone into "high growth" markets, and is accompanied by the official announcement of the low-cost Nokia Lumia 610 device.
He also goes on to say how much this actually effects publishers:
In terms of actual potential app customers, the addition of new price points and customers in China and the other new markets represents a near 60% increase in the total addressable market for Windows Phone. I told you it was a big step!

What's this I hear that Microsoft is only certifying certain WP devices to work with Skype?
Also can't believe Nokia put their best camera on a freaking belle phone and they still haven't released a WP with a keyboard. Not one WP with a keyboard this generation, not to mention the extra manufacture add-ons I was hoping for, like a notification led.
Nokia has confirmed that it will be bringing its Pureview technology to its Windows phone devices in the near future.
The Pureview technology was unveiled on the 41MP-toting Nokia 808 Pureview at MWC 2012, and almost immediately the Finnish firm confirmed it was looking to putting the advanced cameraphone technology on its future devices.
Considering the 808 was launched as 'confirming our significant short term investments in Symbian' by Jo Harlow, executive VP of smart devices for Nokia, it's pretty clear Windows Phone is getting the Pureview technology in the near future.
Man I can't believe i woke up early, only
to be dissapointed. Oh well. Tango better be awesomeI won't be. I just know it
Well, I woke up to a Skype app, so it wasn't a total loss.
Only that it's like 6 months late, nope, not a total loss. :lol
Skype app looks nice, but it runs a bit choppy for me.
I hope they implement features for the contact list like view online only, etc.
And a Live Tile would be sweet for sure.
It's possible to view the "online" list, just tap on "contacts" in your contact list.
MS reslly needs to stop with carriar updates.
I want the Windows Phone interface with Android hardware and ios games and update process. Is that too much to ask?
I wasn't unhappy with Android when I made the switch to Windows Phone. Besides the beautiful UI, the other big draw for me was that MS would "control" the update process, much like Apple does. I hated the fact that I cold buy an awesome phone then watch for months as a new software upgrade with tons of functionality was never delivered to it. Which is what is happening with ICS, and no, having to root my phone, void my warranty and try to root and install the update myself is not a good option
Now I'm stuck with a disappearing keyboard and an SSL vulnerability and no one can tell me why at&t would block an update that they don't have to distribute in the first place.
Meanwhile, Apple has delivered various software upgrades to its new and old phones, at will and without carrier interference across the globe. Its an embarrassment to both MS and Google that this is happening, and another reason why iPhone is so popular and should clearly be considered best in class as a platform. I hate ios as much as anyone else, but I'm betting apple will close the gap on missing features and refresh the stale interface before Google and MS will ever be allowed to distribute updates at will.
The keyboard disappeared twice while writing this post.
While I thought the Lumia 610 would be cheaper, I also thought it would be lower specced.
Lumia 610
It can still run nearly all the apps, 3.7" WVGA, 5 MP, 8 GB and there's of course also value in Nokia's software.
If there are offers for let's say 150 Euros, it'll be a pretty good deal.

Yes.
WAIT FOR APOLLO
Hey, that's my catchphrase! I'll sue your ass if you use it another time.
Don't ignore my post and update your phone already.
oh yea...then wait for Q4. how about that.
Dude, I went there and I have to do two updates cause I'm two versions behind and you can't upgrade straight from my current build. Plus I'm lazy. Plus, if I upgrade, who is going to do the multi-paragraph carrier whining post? Who?Don't ignore my post and update your phone already.

did I miss the Microsoft MWC event? It looks like everything has been announced already

I haven't used the skype app much yet but according to the verge it does not support background processes and notifications.... makes this kind useless right now imo.
