The Light of El Cantare
I'm having a hard time deciding whether the character design or mech design is more atrocious.

:O So jealous.

The Blu-Ray "Complete Edition" is a little pricey, granted, but I highly recommend picking it up too. It's one of those brilliant series that deserves it.

CDJapan are selling it at a reasonable rate, if you're interested.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether the character design or mech design is more atrocious.

The mecha design. Definitely the mecha design.

EDIT: On second thought, the character designs are also woeful. What's up with those clothes? This might be one of those rare times I hope they pander to the otaku and make them take off their clothing frequently.

Who's doing the mech design for E7?
Kanetake Ebikawa
Kimitoshi Yamane
Takayuki Yanase
New Eureka Seven AO designs revealed:

Elena's IFO, Kyrie:

Kind of like, we'll see how they animate.

The mecha design. Definitley the mecha design.

If I'd never heard of AO and I was asked what series this was a sequel to based on this mech design, E7 would be at the bottom of the list. I would have sooner guessed Zoids or something. Seriously, how can this actually be one of the mechs? It's a four-legged space jet with a xenomorph head for fuck's sake. This show is going to be a catastrophe :(

Eh, the character designs seem on par with what we usually saw in e7. Needs to look more like Oreimo imo.

It's obviously one of those heavy artillery support mechs. I kinda want to see it surfing. (lol)

Read the manga, don't even bother with Beetrain's adaptation. It's a partial adaptation of the first 5 volumes of the manga (which is on its final run with nearly 30 vols.). The anime is really lacking both in the artistry (you know, the manga is quite famous for its drawings and depiction of action scenes) and in the storytelling. It introduces many players which will become important characters later on, even before than the manga..... but the anime is only 1-cour. So it actually doesn't reach the point where they become useful, and also the point where the various plot threads come together, moving away from the episodic nature of the first volumes of the manga. Also, Anotsu is one of the greatest villain ever, but you get to see that much later on.
It's..... a wonderful manga and a very, very poor anime.

Thx for the insight. Yeah, I'm definitely going to read the manga after I finish the series(Too late to turn back now) The story's simple, and the production is indeed horrible, but the cast has been enjoyable. Anotsu hasn't been made a SUPER villian yet, where I'm at. In fact, aside from the main incident with Rin, he's been given more sympathy scenes than anything. I could definitely see how he becomes nuts though.

I'd take anything over those boring palette swaps at this point.

bubububu E7 is all about agile humanoid mechs that use guns and missile spam.
I want to see how it surfs too, dohohoho.

Omigawa is playing that pink-haired kuudere?

Nice.

Well, thank god she isn't playing Mikoto in Mysterious Girlfriend X. That would have been tragic.

Although deep down I already know the answer: Mysterious Girlfriend X will probably suck despite Omigawa NOT beeing in the show.

Idk, but I could certainly do without one more Renton in my life.

Ditto.

We may be in luck though, a Renton wouldn't fit with the stereotypical male protag of a harem.

Rahxephon also had some great designs in there. Ayato was standard dull, but Quon and 'Reika' were top-tier among the remaining pool of good-great.

Forgot about RahXephon, it did have good character designs (by Bones standard).

Yeah, she doesn't fit the role, but if i'm going to watch a potential wreck I'd enjoy it more with some Omigawa.

Yup.
Instead we'll probably be greeted with "BAKA HOW DID THIS FILTHY LITTLE BOY BECOME A BAKA PILOT OHOHOHO" level of tsundere that the blonde-haired girl appears to be.

Almost never watching the endings and only watching the OP a handful of times is the real way to do it!

Never, even when I rewatch shows I dont skip either. I didnt think people skip the previews either, what if theres those funny skits at the end, like in Bleach (Illustrated Guide to Soul Reapers)/Naruto//Ben-To

I always skip the previews. Don't really care to have scenes spoiled. I hear you on the skits though; Stuff like nichibros actually bit me in the ass until I realized that there were skits (superior female nichijou) after everything was through, lol. I had to go back through and check them all.

I usually watch the OP and the ED, since I'm just lazy to skip through them. I do like shows that switches things up, like SZS with their rotating OPs and EDs, and Inu x Boku SS with giving everyone their own ED.

I've never cared much for OPs/EDs unless the songs are really good (Lagrange). Don't get the obsession with Shaft OPs at all, either.

The sad part here is, I really want it to be good. The manga is just a hilarious cockblock most of the time and a generally fun way to spend some time. I just think, the material at hand is easy to fuck up when approached wrong.

Yeah. PGSM is bad about previews, well Sailor Moon even has those terrible episode titles.

Haha yeah, episode titles that give "hints" on what's going to happen are just slightly annoying. I swear I have seen an anime that "hinted" at the winner of a ongoing fight in the episode title.

Yep. I learned this the hard way -_-

They aren't even hints, they're just full out spoilers.

Now every month or so when I watch an episode of Sailor Moon I skip the opening preview, the OP, episode title, the ending, and the next episode preview. Only way it should be done really.

Bones always used to be cream of the crop in terms of designs. Fucking sickening to imply otherwise.

Nice overreaction.

I never suggested and/or implied Bones had bad character designs, only that I couldn't think of any shows with examples to the contrary. I can now.

Same. I love the skits, but first time through an anime I'll usually skip the previews.

Makes for a nice bonus on a second time through as well.

Nah, it's not sad. I want to see it succeed too but as you said it'll be tough for them to translate the manga into an anime. I liked the manga but I got bored after a while (not sure if it picks back up, maybe i'll try it again) and it'll be interesting to see if they can avoid that.

Ep.234 "That character who you thought was dead isn't actually dead and the villain dies.....but not really"

Soooo awful :p

I always make sure to watch Lagrange and Mirai Nikki OPs and EDs this season.

The rest are skippable.
Maybe it's just in the context of actually liking the old OP and ED for Mirai Nikki, but the new ones seem kind of boring to me. The new OP barely even fits the mood of anything that's actually going on with the animation.

I mostly just leave EDs on in the background if they're good and think the list of stuff I like from this season is actually pretty long. Nise, Ano Natsu, Guilty Crown, and Natsume all have pretty good ED songs.

[Ano Natsu 1 - 4]

This works, surprisingly. The reason it elevates itself your average rom-com is fairly clear - the speed at which characters progress through situations and misunderstandings that would take other characters five or more episodes to resolve. Here, things are dealt with (so far) by the end of the episode.

Oh, and the art and animation aren't a pain to look at, so that helps.

I basically never skip OP/ED but the aforementioned Space Pirates songs are sung by off-key idols...
I'm OK with mediocre VA singing because then it's just like they're role-playing the characters singing or something but random idols that have nothing to do with the show...ugh.
Really mars an otherwise great show.
I think back on Nadesico's awesome songs and weep.
At least they aren't voicing any characters.

On a whim I googled モーレツ宇宙海賊 音痴 (Bodacious Space Pirates tone-deaf/off-key) and found this comment on 2ch:

海賊が音痴な歌をがなり立ててるというイメージでOPを見ればむしろ愛しくなってくる。
音楽だと思うからダメなんだ。これは効果音だ。

If you imagine it as pirates belting out an off-key song, you'll come to love it.
Don't think of it as music. It's sound effects.
