At this point, I'm willing to go without the home-run if it's not there.

D12 is confused, option 1A still gets a lot of run, especially with no Pau or Bynum. Him and Kobe would be taking most of the shots.

You're thinking about this the wrong way. The Mavs are not going to go into the offseason thinking "we have to trade Marion or Dwight won't think about us." They're not going to even shop Marion unless Dwight tells them he wants to be a Mav. Only when that happens will they look for a trade with a team with cap space.

I think you really have to look at the context here. The number of teams with cap space this offseason will be large. On the other hand, the number of quality small forwards that are free agents is very small. I mean seriously, have you looked at the list? And remember, in the new CBA the salary floor is higher.

The guys that are hard to trade are guys with bad attitudes and/or really bad contracts. Marion's is a little higher than you'd normally pay for a guy his age, but when you consider that he's still one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, who guarded Kobe, Durant, and Lebron in the title run last year, a good rebounder, who can give you ten points a game without running plays for him, I don't think he's the hardest sell. We're not talking about World Peace here.

I don't know if the TWolves would want him or not, but I don't see why they or a number of other teams wouldn't think about it. Like I said, context. Convincing Dwight to go to the Mavs is the much tougher proposition.

But I guess there's no way to know for sure unless Dwight becomes a free agent and says he wants to go to Dallas.

If the Mavs really want Dwight and Dwight doesn't want to be the #2 guy on the team then they can just obviously trade Dirk to Orlando. Problem solved!

I think he's also wondering how much it matters to him. Deron seems much more sure of himself, either way he goes, which is why I think if Orlando doesn't trade Dwight, and doesn't win it all this year, Dwight's going to follow Deron to wherever he ends up.

I said it the year before last, in regards to LBJ. But Dwight next to Dirk would be a great fit. A really great fit.

Well Dirk's kind of a good fit next to any halfway decent defensive center, but when you consider that Orlando has basically been trying to pair Dwight with hobo Dirks for years, it makes a lot of sense.

LBJ & Dirk or Dwight & Dirk is just a good match, as many players can fit around dirk when he works in the high post.

If Deron is there also... thats a REAL big 3.

But if you shipped Marion out, who's playing sg & sf? bogans? Kleiza?

Because teams not contending have no use for Marion. And those teams are capped out, for the most part.

And a West team is not going to help Dallas get Deron and Dwight while keeping Dirk.

at that point (if it ever happens), it wouldnt be too hard to convince a vet, one of those 3-and-D type players to sign with the mavs. im sure donne nelson can find some young talents at these positions
and have them play for the texas legends

Teams with cap space next year:

Boston, Charlotte, Cleveland, Denver, Golden State, Houston, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Orleans, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, Toronto, Utah, and Washington.

A lot of those teams probably wouldn't want Marion, but some would. And I don't think the list is as limited as you do, because of the higher salary floor, plus a lot of teams being delusional about their odds. There's also the possibility of a cap room team accepting an expirer from an over-the cap team(to meet salary floor requirements), with Marion then going to the over-the-cap team.

That's a good question. I would think the Mavs would try to keep Wince if they could, he's more productive than his salary, which isn't much. So that would solve SG. For SF they would only have the room exception to work with. Maybe Pietrus or Grant Hill?

You might be able to pick up an amnestied guy, but they'd be for portions of the exceptions. Nothing huge.

Grant MIGHT. But i think his desire to keep playing at the top level is waning.

I know of the times you listed with cap, the suns are probably just going to make a run a Eric Gordon, and if he doesn't sign, sign Nash for another year, and a bunch of 1 year contracts.

What you'd really need is guys who can just defend, and spot up shoot. Pietrus would be ideal.
 
I didn't realize how much cap space Houston could have next year. Lowry and Dalembert's deals are a steal. Marion would be a great fit with them, and we all know how much Morey wants to make the next superteam happen.

Teams without cap room:
Denver - you assume Gallo isn't re-signed. lol.
GSW - assumes Rush is left to leave and low draft pick
Houston - assumed Dragic leaves, dalembert not picked up, plus the position is filled
Orlando - assumes Dwight leaves, anderson not re-signed. 100% they don't trade here.
Philly - Assumes Brand opts out, LOLOLOL
Portland - assumes Camby leaves + batum doesn't re-sign (he's gonna get $8 mil)

Teams that make no sense as they have a younger/better SF

That leaves NJN, which won't do it for obvious reasons and Phx. Phx would need a commitment from Nash, but I also don't think they want to bring him back.

Boston and Houston might be potential candidates in theory, but I still doubt Houston helps Dallas land Deron/Dwight. Boston would be contingent on him playing the 4, I suppose. But I think they go into full rebuild.

So, basically, I'm not seeing it. Maybe to the Lakers for the TPE?

Yeah, houston wanted to have Pau + Nene with their team and believes LA was giving up a lot to get CP3.

They were improving a lot, according to their view, and were willing to bet on beating the lakers. marion won't do that for their team.

Warriors will have ~$8-10million even if they give Rush a qualifying offer (which I assume they will). $4million more if they don't.

The consensus is he won’t play until he’s fully recovered.

Marion for nothing is a way better deal than Pau for Scola, Martin, Dragic, and a 1st.

I've been in fights and gotten hit harder than that without any of those injuries. Hell I've inadvertantly taken a M9 muzzle to the face without more than a fucking bruise.
