I wonder if there are actual restaurants in Japan where one of the reasons to go there would be a crazy boke and tsukkomi routine show put on by the employees. If they can have maid cafes, I see no reason why they can't do that. Of course it would have to be a bit less destructive than it is in anime.

Bakemonogatari 9

The first 15 minutes of the episode were alright. Kinda slow going, but whatever. I like the way that Hanekawa is being developed. I'll probably like her less once they tell me her life story.

But then it's like, why? She's in middle school. And then they have an entire goddamn conversation while she's cupping her tits in the background. I never asked for this. There is no reason to do this, Shaft.

I just... this show... it... ugh.

You watched eight episodes of Bakemonogatari.

Eight.

It's too late to get high and mighty!

2012 is like, the year of the forever.

Master Keaton sequel announced. Wonder if there will be an anime soon.

I wouldn't hold my breath, as much as I would love to see that happen. The Master Keaton anime is one of my all-time favorites.

Of course, as Erigu points out, with a different story partner and considering the trajectory of Urasawa's manga from Monster onwards, there's a high chance of this sequel being considerably inferior to the original.

Or it could be like Pluto, which is the best thing Urasawa has ever done. Of course, Pluot is a far better candidate for an anime adpation than, say, Monster, because it's rather short, but that's never going to happen.

Well, Urasawa and Nagasaki claim they're the ones who wrote the original Master Keaton (and it's not like the guy who was credited for the story can say otherwise, what with him being dead and all). But some disagree, and if I remember well, Urasawa and Nagasaki's version is a bit contradictory...

Don't say I didn't warn you.

I don't blame you for anything. You did what you could. Ultimately, I am the one who chose this path.

This would be an opportune time to stop, walk away, and reconsider what direction it was you took in life that led you to watching an underage cartoon girl writhe around suggestively in the nude.

The sad truth is that I'm now far too deep down this hole to escape.

There are many choices I made in my life that lead to my slide into deviancy, but I guess my most principal regret is beginning to watch OreImo. Watching that series started my slide back into regular anime-watching, and made me more comfortable with the idea of simultaneously enjoying and being ashamed of what I watch. Fuck you and your character designs that got me to keep watching.

And why'd he have to friendzone Manami, huh? She's clearly the best!

But I was conflicted about it while I watched those episodes! That makes it okay, right?

What you're saying is, you didn't like it at first, but then you started to grow accustomed to it. However, when it pushed you too far all at once you suddenly realised what you had become, so naturally you pushed back against it. However, it's too late. You have already lost your innocence. Your pure moe spirit is dead.

Monday needs to come around again so I can watch another episode of Usagi Drop and feel like a decent human being.

I haven't read Pluto, but isn't it based on a story by Tezuka? That would seem to give it an innate advantage and curb Urasawa's worst tendencies.

I'm a little concerned by the Keaton sequel going forward 20 years in time - I would rather have it be a "Lost Files" style revisiting. The original setting worked so well and could be used for an infinity of possible tales; messing with it only opens up the possibilities for problems to arise.

& to remind you that you have better things to do with your time!

I walked down this path, man. I walked further than you have done so far. But I was able to walk away.

The important thing to remember is that it's not too late. And that I'm here for you.

Perhaps I was looking too far when asking myself how I got here. What I should have asked myself isn't "why anime?" but "why Bakemonogatari?" And I had forgotten then answer. So I dove back into the old Winter 2012 thread to figure out how I got here.

I figured now would be a good time to catch up on Bakemonogatari as well (so I can see if Nise is worth it), but I could also use a few other recommendations to fill out the week. I've been out of the loop for a while, and even when I was in the loop, I wasn't really in it, so I'm sure there's a lot I missed. I'm sure if I just limit it to 2009 onwards, I'll have more than enough good shows.

At this point, no matter how Bakemonogatari ends (and I hear the last arc is pretty good!), there's no way I'm watching Nise. So I guess I've already accomplished what I set out to do by starting Bakemonogatari. Beyond my own masochism and desire to finish what I start, there's no reason to keep watching this show.

This has been really enlightening.

Based on Tezuka's Astro Boy. The ability to work off a solid concept, and its short length, is just some of what makes Pluto really endearing for me.

I'm not too worried about this new project--if it sucks, it sucks. But again they're working off a good foundation, a story Urasawa has worked on before, and for me it's like seeing an author go back to a setting they hadn't touched in years.

Eureka Seven episode 6

The kids are such annoying little brats, and Holland is an ass.

At least Renton was good in this episode.

But you missed the best part!

Katanagatari 3 & 4

3 - I don't know why but I felt bad for the Priestess when all was said and done.

4 - *Hyped out the ass after watching Episode 3's preview*
*watches the actual episode*
*MANTIS, BUTTERFLY, BEE*

...

Well fuck me, I got super trolled coming from the preview off episode 3. :(

At the same time though, Shichika's sis is broken as fuck. That's some Medaka level of shit right there. :lol

Edit: Waaaaat @ that Pac-Man anime and it's details.
Yea, you're supposed to feel bad for her. Afterall, in the grand scheme of things, it was a pretty worthless death.

I like the way episode 4 was pulled off. Much more interesting than the teased episode.

G Gundam 9

I feared the narrator that opened the episodes would get on my nerves. I'm coming to appreciate how he sets the stage for each episode thus far.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica 3

Son of a bitch. Son of a bitch.

Blood C 9

There we go. If you're going to do the crazy over the top violence thing, embrace it entirely.

Starship Troopers 1

In 1988, Sunrise released an anime adaptation of Heinlein's Starship Troopers novel. This has been on my list to check out for a while so I figured why not tonight. Going into it, I wasn't sure what to expect other than what I figured would be a straightforward adaptation. I haven't read the book in a year so my memory may be fuzzy but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a beach party and dune buggies in the original.

Posts like these make me glad that I never watched beyond the third episode.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatte Iru 12 END

It's not often (if ever?) you see the afterlife portrayed in such a bureaucratic manner, nor would you expect something so absurd to be so incredibly moving but then again this isn't any ordinary show we're talking about here!

Thanks to the non-linear and unconventional format and how it really ties all the incredibly charming characters together, Soredemo was easily one of the most enjoyable and creative anime series I've watched. Every minute of this show was an absolute blast and overall probably the most enjoyable show produced by Shaft I've ever seen.

Hopefully Hidamari Sketch and Arakawa are of a similar calibre.
they're not are they? :(
