Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

It's all canonical. As the anime, unlike the film, doesn't differ enough to really be considered something other, imo. I don't condone spoiling, nor do I really support the idea of bringing up scenes that the anime-exclusive viewer will never see, but to bar manga speak, and potentially interesting conversation on narrative as a whole because 'the anime will never get there' is but setting arbitrary, almost-childlike restrictions, imo. I brought up the conversation that was had on Chihaya few paged back in my last post as the example of an instance in which the manga talks did nothing but benefit the interests of the participants, it seems.
You're talking about a different situation that what people engage in, which is Person A starts watching the show then Persons B-W start snickering and go HEY CHECK OUT THE MANGA YOU'LL LOVE THE EXTRA STUFF.

I can understand about spoiling on purpose. But I don't think anyone does it in a snickering way. It just isn't fair to bar the topic when it comes up. It is going to come up because it soured a lot of people on the series. For example you wouldn't ban Star Wars prequel talk because it soured people on the series.

At the end of the day--canonical manga chapter XX vs faithful adaptation ep23--it all amounts to nothing but vets lording future material over the unfortunate newbies' head. It's an issue of conduct, not source.

*The irony in this being that I'm the one at the helm of this debacle, lol. Oh well, point stands.

I don't know, it looked like Ultimadrago was thinking of dropping the anime because of all the manga talk, thinking something fucked up was going to happen at the end of the anime in the same vain as Blood C and School Days when nothing of that sort actually happens.

It isn't bad if you get to watch it consecutively, but watching that week by week makes it feel horribly paced. It took 5 weeks for anything significant to even happen.

Yeah, i'm with you. I'm glad i've got 8 episodes at my disposal because waiting weekly would've surely frustrated me.

"Bodacious" Space Pirates 1
This would have been much more bodacious if the mom was the main character.

I agree with this sentiment, as long as they still found a way to fit Hanazawa somewhere. :)

Oh man, the Code Geass musical cast is looking fabulous. A sampling below, with more at the link.

Left to right: Lelouch, Suzaku, Kallen, Charles

Little request here :

What's the funniest show around from the last 2 years ?
Not the harem-idiotic kind of funny but real funny like azumanga or hare nochi guu ?

Getting tired of watching the same old shounen or harem-fighting animes :P

I was thinking nothing of the sort, but yeah, was wondering what the hub-bub was.

I was curious about the polarized thoughts on the manga when it was brought up.
Got a solid answer and am fine dropping the topic, enjoying the anime just fine.

You're a horrible person, and I haven't even watched that.

Just bought K.I.T.E. and the Armitage movie. Didn't realize it was so difficult to track down the ova, but I wonder if it's even worth it. I saw a review on amazon saying the poly-matrix movie was a stripped down version of the movie, but it's the only thing available within reason. : ( One of these days...

I thought Nichijou was funny. They had issues with some jokes going on and on forever but it had a lot of great moments.

Daily lives of high school boys.

Yay, I (well, my middleman did) won a new but slightly damaged Jin-Roh BD Nicebox edition for 3880 yens. :>

I can live with the slight damage considering the upcoming BD only reprint that I was going to get is the same price.

Don't know if you have seen it already as it's little older than two years but Seto no Hanayome was damn funny. Better than Gintama for me.

From the last 2 years? Working!! and its sequel are probably my favorite straight comedies from that period. Ika Musume is funny, but slants more cutesy in favor of funny sometimes. Gintama is good from what I've seen. Being a shounen bro you'd likely appreciate it ven more than I do.

Some people will suggest Nichijou. I don't think it's funny at all save for a few select scenes but it never tries to pretend to be more than a straight gag comedy so if that's what you're looking for, it won't hurt to see if you fit its rather bizarre humor(?) profile.

Lastly, K-On sucks.
"K-On isn't a comedy, silly Jman!" yeah whatever, you guys keep telling yourself that.

Daily Lives of Highschool Boys that's running right now is the funniest I can remember.

Thanks for the suggestions, gonna check out Nichijou and Daily lives.
Gintama seems waaaaaay too long, don't have the will to catch up that much :p

edit : and Working!! - thanks

I havent found working to be that funny, though I like that its more plot driven then skit based Nichijou it just has uninteresting characters.

That's a relief, but the point still stands.

Gintama is an episodic series with generally 3 - 5 episode serious arcs every now and then, it's definately the type of show to be savoured and watched at your own pace.

Absolutely.

Good man.
Daily Lives (Nichibros) has its reoccurring moments that make it worth a weekly viewing for some laughs.

Nichijou while I snoozed and rolled my eyes going in, the atmosphere, humor and simple archetypes took me hostage (in a good way) a bit later on. It's honestly in my all-times list, but mileage varies much for the series (due to humorous misses/overly tame pacing). Therefore, not promising you'll like it the same way at all, but I love it.

Working!!...
I only know through doujins...

Today's BRS TV episode is the first one where Imaishi did not direct and storyboard. Instead his partner in crime Amemiya is responsible. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm expecting good things, since Amemiya's sense of action is pretty great too.

Duckroll is so cute when he acts so optimistic.

Edit: guys I have had fude pen mio version on a loop for the last three hours

I think there's something wrong with me

Then what was your reason for doing it the last time here?

Why is Anaheim Electronics staffed entirely by cute girls.

Kou has a bad habit of running away randomly to cry.

And now he's getting gangraped.

It's similar to the world of Ah! My Godess where females are really into mechanical engineering and fixing vehicles up. Perhaps Ah! My Godess is actually a prequel...

Just like how everyone snickers everytime someone starts watching School Days, right? Your blowing up over every little mention of the BD manga is just as annoying and 'destructive to the anime's enjoyment,' if not more so, really. It exists. It's going to get mentioned, just like the Chihaya manga was brought up in the talks a few pages back. I regret sparking it this time, but get over it.

I don't think discussing, or overtly hinting at spoilerific aspects of any work should be encouraged, regardless of the quality of said work. There are ways to encourage interesting in a work while still being subtle about it.

Regardless, you can't directly compare School Days to Usagi Drop in that manner.

With School Days people are actually 'snickering' at aspects of the storyline present in the anime. They're making references to that one continuity.

With Usagi Drop the discussion is centred around the manga, which is a different version of the story to the anime. These are two different continuities (at this point) so it's not necessary to discuss the manga when talking about the anime.

Someone asked for funny shows and no one recommended Yondemasu Yo Azazel-san? For shame people.

Also, I'm not really feeling that cloth design for the new Saint Seiya. I mean, what are those pauldrons supposed to be made of? Cotton? Some sort of polyester? And it looks more like he's wearing tights and a leotard instead of individual pieces of armor.

Hopefully it'll grow on me.

Keeping up with Guilty Crown by reading the spoilers and . . . this week's episode . . .

dohohohohohohohoho

Noitama power hour ftw.

I can feel my brain melting already.
