Think I'm going Axe/Dagger Necromancer: http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/?lang=en&code=28ka01j2c131h1410k0aua4q5g5t5v6067

The "pull conditions from allies to yourself" comboing with "consume all conditions to heal yourself" abilities seem super useful.

I think it would work really well if you're getting focused to give yourself a really powerful heal but afterwards it looks like it might leave you vulnerable to further conditions while the signet is on cool down.

Yeah, I'm getting the vibe the entire build is set up on one skill, which I think is a no-no in GW2. You gotta balance everything so you're doing stuff in between.

The build looks like a lot of condition and boon swapping around, but I don't see traits that really help with that.

Agreed, maybe add another minion to the utility and replace Spectral grasp for further life stealing? Just a couple of hints here and there to help you.

Well I definitely want to go Axe/whatever Necro, I think. The thought of a death-dealing, axe-wielding badass just seems too cool to pass up.

I built something that builds on conditions on your foes, it's more single target than anything, it's also friendly to players who have a ton of conditions on them:

Moving faster with a dagger is great to get into melee. If you don't need to, switch to Scepter/Focus for some long range condition throws, then switch back to Axe/Dagger and go in for the kill. Stack conditions and do damage, then eat them off yourself for health.

Speaking of necros and mesmers, I'm concerned about how well the AI will work. AI-controlled units seem to be way more prevalent in GW2 than they were in GW1.

The ones I can remember off the top of my head are Mesmer illusions, Necro minions, and Guardian spirit weapons. The problem with AI-controlled units is that as the skill level of the playerbase gets higher, the AI won't improve.

I just hope these skills don't eventually get phased out like MMs were in every serious PvP format.

Honestly the best way to improve clones or phantasms is have them do skills 1, 2 or 3 seconds behind you, or summon them and you follow behind them in sync as well, or something that makes them look like the real you or what have you.

If not, then if the player actually acts like a robot instead of a human, they might also confuse someone. LOL

Even then, you could easily pinpoint the real mesmer in their little game of follow the leader.

Maybe have a load of preset pathways with some simple thinking to avoid damage and such?

Honestly, I have no idea how to fix this. Someone get a game designer on this!

That might actually work! Seriously, with all the particle effects going on while you and your clones dishing out damage, it can confuse relatively easy if you're not paying attention.

This is why I think capitalizing on blinding/disappearing while illusions are up works the best - repositioning yourself away from the clone barrage is guaranteed confusion on their part.

The reason backpedaling is considered noobish is that it is impossible to pvp as a back pedaler agaisnt someone who isn't. There's no way to maintain your attacks against someone who is maneuvering in such a way that you need to turn/move faster than back pedaling allows you to.

I'm not suggesting backpedaling all the time is awesome. I'm stating that, as with many things in life, it's not that cut and dry. With Dodge in place, backpedaling could be utilized just as well to set someone up as it could be an indication that the person using it doesn't know what he or she is doing.

For clarity: Backpedaling on occasion? Doesn't make you an idiot by default. Backpedaling all the time? Not good. Limiting your movement options by default in all circumstances? Probably not smart either.

This thread is insane. I check here obsessively for new vids and info, and you people still leave me behind five pages or more. The avalanche of beta footage and Jira's info just keeps piling up.

I'm set on a necromancer, and I was dabbling with something like this.
The goal: bolstering Death Shroud in order to be an unstoppable cloud of sickening death, sweeping the battlefield.

Not certain about my healing priorities, though. I went with the pet because it has the fastest heal available and I'm paranoid about that shit, but I'm guessing since I'll be relying on Death Shroud and fast Life Force accumulation I won't need a straight heal that often. Also, popping Death Shroud dismisses minions, so I'm probably shooting myself in the foot.

Not needing a straight heal as often would also make Signet of the Locust obsolete to a certain extent and make Consume Conditions a more viable option in combination with Plague Signet.
But I'm not certain on how Consume Conditions actually works - does it feast on conditions you applied or on conditions placed on you; I'm assuming the latter - and I'm wondering if Plague Signet wouldn't be more of a curse than a blessing on the whole.
A final option would be Well of Blood with Signet of Undeath, but WoB has a long cooldown and like I said, I'm paranoid about that shit.
Also not sure about Well of Corruption now. I picked it because the latest tooltip made it seem like it had a direct damage component as well. It works with the off-hand dagger skill to increase damage per Condition, but if I'm using Well of Blood as well, they might interfere.

So I suppose I'm not certain about my 6 to 9 skill selection. But on that note, how easily can we switch these skills out? Is being out of combat the only requirement? That would make things a lot more fluid.

Any feedback?

I had to sleep!

He isn't a machine?!?!

Man, I don't know how you guys are making your builds I just can't decide. I thought I had decided somewhat how I wanted to start my Elementalist, but then I found out no weapon swapping. I wanted to go staff for support, but most of their offensive skills are AOE with staff. And dagger and scepter are better for non AOE attack skills, but with support they are lacking.

I think I will end up going staff and figuring out what weapon I want to conjure when I want to focus attack.

I have these builds I've made but dammit it's hard to be absolutely sure on some parts without getting your hands on everything and seeing the whole picture. Things like runes/sigils/jewels play a large part as well, there's likely just countless mods in the game and those can change up your build and how you play entirely, also effect how you interact with your allies builds. I really need to get to talking with friends about making builds that compliment each other, but I think only one of them would really be receptive to theorycrafting at this point.

I don't think Guardian for me. I was sort of let down by the Greatsword spells. The leap is okay though. Just looks much better in the official showing.

Ranger Greatsword looks better. I didn't get why the yorgcast dude was against ranger with melee weapons. It's not a huntard. Its BEASTMASTER!

The leap looks better when done from a greater distance so you get to see the full arc. Yeah, Yogscast seems like their first and only MMO has been WoW and they have a hard time grasping old conventions.

Haven't looked at many other professions traits yet, but Elementalists don't seem too done yet which is to be expected. I think I'm done trying to make one for now I came up with this, but it's hard to tell where some points are going. At least 5 of the points from the water trait will go into earth for the extra condition damage, and maybe more I just don't know what the 15pt water trait is. Fire is pretty much set, it's just distributing the rest for the best healing/burning traits.

A turret heavy, flamethrower and rifle build that I created for an Engineer. What do you guys think? I have a feeling I am trying to do too much with all the traits and not focusing on 1.

It so hard creating a build without having a chance to try it out.

I've thought about it and I think the beauty of the system is that you don't HAVE to focus on one like other games. You're not just doing damage or tanking or healing, you're doing a mix and match of all of them and you build how you want to play and how you interact with other builds rather than one single build that does X better.

I guess you are right. I had the idea of setting up my turrets in front of me and me standing behind them, overcharging when I can and shooting with my rifle. Then I would also have the Flamethrower kit, for when I want to go in and finish someone of, or when I am surrounded. Also if I know a fight is about to end, I can just detonate my turrets to end the fight quickly.

Is there a limit of how many of same turret you can have on the ground?

As a single Engineer? No idea.

I know this is premature, but I (edit:kind of) hope they don't introduce any new professions with their first expansion or maybe even two. My hands will be full with these 8 alone for a long time.

E2:Thief's are going to have a hard time choosing their utilities, there are so many useful ones. The shadow refuge is an awesome one to heal and cloak allies.

If the Engineer resembles Rift's Saboteur or Warhammer's Engineer, I'll be in heaven. I absolutely love being a disturbance/hindrance to enemy lines in PvP while providing support for the team.

Finally narrowed my choice of class to Mesmer after looking over everyone's skills. Sword/Torch Mesmer with either Greatsword or Staff as sub sounds too much fun (whichever is more complimentary in practice).

I just want to say that if you ever plan on making a photo editing program, you mimic Photoshop 1:1. Please don't change how basic features work so that they make no sense, there's a reason Photoshop is an industry standard. Thank you.

This type of thinking goes entirely against what ArenaNet's stance is on MMO's! How dare you! :)

Aww is someone using GIMP? :P

I was until I couldn't do something as simple as edit the color of different text within a single layer. So I got PaintShop Pro and it's significantly better, BUT I wanted to extend the canvas size and when I do that it makes the canvas size larger but overwrites everything I've done on every layer. JUST GIVE ME MORE ROOM ON ALL LAYERS FFS. /rant

Do you think all end armor sets will have the look of assassin (like pitch black, mask, some kind of cloak, etc.)? I would like to be a Thief but not actually look like it, more like a wanderer.

Oh well. Still can't decide between Ranger and Thief.

You can dye all of the armor with any of 400+ dyes, also gear isn't profession based, but instead it's based on armor weight class. So as a Thief you can wear any gear that's Medium and mix and match any of it without any restrictions. Then Transmutation stones bought via Karma allow you to transfer stats from say a chest piece that you don't like the looks of and stats from another chest piece that like the looks of, but like the stats and get the best of both worlds.

Transmutetransmutetransmute.

I'm totally gonna steal some of the Norn Guardian armor. That shit is PIMP.

They don't plan to make stand alone expansions again right?

I'm all for making multiple characters, but I usually just try and stick to two or three. The old Expansions kind of forced you to make new guys just to experience the content.

Nope, they said the campaign model doesn't work for GW2 and will make a normal expansion like EOTN.

Yo. This is my character idea. Necrobros.

I could see them bringing back the dwarves. Could be the focus of a whole expansion later too.

The dwarves are kinda down in the depths of Tyria holding off Primordius from killing everything, maybe when he rolls around they could become playable?

I really don't like the bash down the god door aspect of WvWvW.

They're doing it wrong, plain and simple. You want to use siege weapons of all sorts, not your sword. Also, it doesn't help that those keeps/towers aren't upgraded with better defenses/npc patrols nor is there any real players defending them. Makes a big difference in the strategy you bring to the table.
