As much as I want to buy the Falcon and Tantive I think I will save my money and wait for the monster sets. I have a feeling I will really want those. I'm just going to keep reminding myself of that.

wait what? There is a points system for Legos?

if you shop at lego.com then you get reward points that build up to $5 off coupons. Maybe it works at Lego stores too? I don't know, I don't have one near me.

Amazon discounts and shipping mean that a lot of the time, it's still cheaper to buy there if it's an option, but there's a double points thing right now so maybe not at the moment.

Yeah it also works in Lego stores if you bring your VIP card.

Is that how it works? Are there "rare" minifigs? Sorry I'm new to all this. I would have thought they were all made evenly?

Well, sort of. The way it works is that in a given box of minifigs, there will always be a set number of a specific figure. In a box of 36, there may only be 2 of the "rare" figure for that series. From my understanding, it's in the same place in the box every time, too (i.e. 4 packages from the back in the left-most row). It's sort of shitty and nothing like it should be, haha.

Wow really? That sucks bigtime. So which one is considered rare in for instance series 5?

Maybe I'm taking all the "fun" out of it, but I'm just getting my collector minifigs from sellers on Bricklink. I'm paying a premium of $1 to $1.50 per minifig, but I am only getting exactly the ones I want and no duplicates.

I don't follow the minifig line, so I couldn't tell you. I'm sure Eurobricks has a "study" done on a box.

A little research tells me that they changed the process a bit on the later series, but it's still broken down by common, uncommon, and rare. You're guaranteed a full set in a box, and each classification has a distribution of like i.e. 5, 4, 3-2 respectively. The absolute best way is to buy a box and split it with someone (to get all the figures you want) and sell the extras to make up the cost.

The Roman seems to go for so much more than the others on Ebay Gutted because I wanted to have a nice Legion of them set up :(

How much does a box go for?

Yeah, that's a super popular one for that exact reason.

Regarding the cost, I don't know. I think you could ask either your local Lego store or department store and they would get you a sealed box from the back (I imagine). But it's not going to be cheap. Figure $3 * number of figs in box = expensive. But if you can sell them for $5 a pop, you can make your money back, haha.

If memory serves, the Collectable Minifig box breakdown is like this:

Box = 60 figures
Each box = 3 full sets and some leftovers (3-5 of each figure)

3 sets is 48 figures, so you've probably got about 8 figs at 3x each, 4 figs at 4x each, and 4 figs at 5x each (more or less, might not be exactly that breakdown). I think the cost being higher on some is more due to coolness factor (the zombie, the elf, etc being more sought-after than the 80s aerobics girl, for instance) - you can probably do a search for the breakdown of each case and find the rarer ones pretty easily. It's not nearly as bad as "shortpacked" action figures though, at least from what I've seen - I've had no problems finding full sets in-store of the last 3 series, which is all I've been collecting them for.

799 points, suckaaaaa

Yeah, I'm debating it too.

800 points IS $40 off, which is 10% of the purchase. Not terrible if you're intending to purchase the set anyways...

Lucky for me I found out about the double points a mere two days before I was due to go and buy it (the SSD) anyway.

Also need a Power Function remote so with my current points plus what I ear I may go for the VW or the 8070 Technic car. Not sure yet.....

TLG you sly loveable company you.

How much does one of those fancy Lego box sets go for nowadays? Like the City, Star Wars, etc. I thought about collecting as many as I can and just creating a massive world.

Half the fun is "feeling" them through the bags :/

Maybe for you heh, I mean if I'm already going there to "feel out" and buy one particular figure then why not just save myself the trouble (keep in mind I tried feeling them out and didn't have much luck with it).

Bought 4 Series 6 packs. Tried feeling and even looking at bump codes. Thought I'd get 2 Minotaurs, 1 Roman Soldier, and 1 Lady Liberty. Got 1 Roman Soldier (yay), Genie, Space Girl, Skate Girl instead.

That Roman Soldier sure is pricey on bricklink/ebay.

Finally picked up the X-Wing today, looking forward to building it over the weekend since everyone one here seemed to enjoy building it.

I will be there as well letting my 7 year old son pick out his birthday present. I may just have to pick up something for myself as well......

Change of plans. I'm taking him next Saturday. I'm thinking we'll pick up either the Millenium Falcon, VW van, or space shuttle then go home and build it. Or mayhem the Queen Anne's. Is the QAR the biggest ship currently in production? I REALLY wish that Imperial Flagship was still available.

on the topic of collectible minifigures, I've been collecting since the start, they used to have bar codes which told you what was in side for the first 2 series. After that they went with the bump codes which I couldn't figure out for the life of me.

Since series 3 I've been buying sealed boxes of them, I bought a box at first and kept a complete set for myself managed to sell the rest as sets and spares on ebay, I ended up covering my costs so I effectively got a complete set for myself for free.

Series 4 I got 2 boxes and managed to sell all my spares and make about $100 on top (which I promptly spent on more lego) Series 5 I went up to 4 boxes and ended up making about $300 and had people on ebay asking me if I had any more after I sold out (as I was selling them as a set for cheaper than you could get them RRP individually if you could even find all 16 in one hit)

So come series 6 I figure I'd order 6 boxes, out of 17 complete sets for sale I've only sold 4 and 1 spare :( so now I have 2 sealed boxes (I didn't bother opening 2 until I needed to), 7 complete sets and about 60 spares I can't do anything with, for some reason nobody is buying this time even though I am selling them for about $40 cheaper for a set than I was last time.

If you were in the UK I'd buy up all the Roman's you had! I've only got 2 so far out of 10 buys. I can't feel them out :(

There's only 3 romans per box unfortunately so I'd have to break my sets :(

anywhere here is the breakdown of an entire box of series 6, they are all identical but I don't think they're in the same position in every box from my experience.

4 Aliens
5 Celtic Warriors
3 Sleepyheads
3 Ladies Liberty
5 Bandits
4 Flamenco Dancers
3 Clockwork Robots
5 Minotaurs
4 Leprechauns
3 Roman Solders
3 Surgeons
4 Skater Girls
4 Intergalactic Girls
3 Butchers
4 Mechanics
3 Genies

I just paid kind of a premium on eBay for one of those Sandtrooper minifigs in that 9490 Droid Escape set...they just look dope! =P If anything, doing so is still far cheaper than paying $20 for the whole set and end up with a bunch of other minifigs and parts I really don't want.

Another minifig to put into the Falcon party bus, yo.

I would not be surprised if we saw both a TIE Interceptor and a TIE Bomber in the next couple years. With the TIE Fighter and the TIE Advanced both having recent revisions, these ones will be due next.

I found one on Amazon for 55 usd shipped, but I'm having financial trouble and I can't justify buying LEGO sets. I need a car first.

I'm so sad!

Man, after building the Falcon I had to control myself and not buy Robie House tonight. I think I might jump into the modular scene soon. They look fun, and the price per brick is quite low on them as well.

As I've said many times before, the Mini Modulars are a blast if you don't want to invest in the full set.

God help me. I think I am going to order the Fire Brigade this weekend. The combination of the Lego bug hitting me, and the fact that the set is going OOP is too much to resist. I must do something REALLY nice for my wife for putting up with me and my building habits recently.

On a different note, I was bored tonight after work and wanting to build, so I disassembled and reassembled the TIE Fighter. It is amazing how much faster and much more fun that build is when you have the pieces organized and realize you have to do much of it 4x instead of doing it by bag numbers.

Went to the Lego store and they were out of stock on the Fire brigade. They let me log in and order it online while they put in a code for free shipping.
Also managed to feel out series 6 mini fig Alien and Space girl. Just need Robot and Roman Soldier for a complete set.
Have the following for trade;

Series 2:
Mime
Motorcycle cop

Series 4:
Sailor
Geisha

Series 5:
Mobster
Boxer

Hmmm. Lego and Toys R Us have Fire Brigade in stock. Lego has brick separators that I can order, but Toys R Us has free shipping and $10 off.

I know there were issues with Toys R Us with the big sets before. How is it now?

EDIT: Fuck it. Ordered off of Toys R Us. My wife is going to kill me, but the price per brick ratio and the going OOP is too hard to pass up. I will hide it in the other room when finished. But $140 before tax and with free shipping was too good to pass on.
