GAF Plays: Mass Effect series (unmarked spoilers)

Mass Effect has been making choices for you since it existed. Arrival is no different. It's the narrative.

I'm pretty sure you can choose between killing the civilians or saving them.

Blowing up the factory which cripples the colony's economy, with minimal casualties if I recall correctly, or preserve the economy and blown up a sizable population. Either way, you do irreparable harm to the colony.
 
No casualties when saving the residential district, plus the people are evacuated if you do. I'm not sure what having a spaceport would actually accomplish, if it was attacked once, chances are it'll be attacked again.
 
Fun fact: I can barely remember the story in Mass Effect 2.

I remember the meat of the game was recruiting team members. The rest is a blur.
 
I'm kind of just blasting through the main quests in Mass Effect 1. If I don't do any I the side quests, will I miss out in some noticeable decisions impacting ME2?

If you dont do any sidequests in ME1, the only things you'll miss in ME2 are some emails and some characters showing up in hubs(or in rare cases, missions) commenting about what you did to them in ME1. Nothing major, just some cool stuff.

Well, considering it just resets itself to right where it's at when ME2 starts, that's understandable.

Well, except for the flying rock, maybe. Depends.

Thanks. I love Mass Effect, but I hate the mechanics compared to 2. I just want to get the main story over with.

I don't think either of them are nearly as good as Shadow Broker but the Kasumi mission is a nice change of pace in the beginning. I had a good time with it. I'm not sure how I feel about Arrival. The new character they introduce makes some strange decisions, in my opinion. Comes off a little weird. Climax was cool though.
 
If I have Shadow Broker installed when does it become available to do if I start a new game? My only save is an end game save, so I dunno how Shadow Broker normally figures into it. Was going to pick up from that one but I think I'll just start a new game on Insanity. :P

Shadow Broker becomes available as soon as you finish Horizon, but it makes the most sense to do it after you beat the main quest.

If you're a Geth hater renegade and encouraged the Quarians to go to war, it would make sense to destroy them. But if you want them as allies in ME3, I guess the other option is the better one. Decisions!

Was gonna New Game Plus it just so I don't have to mess with the character creator, but that feels cheap. :P Gonna do a fresh Insanity run. Should be fun stuffs.

Note to self: don't get Tali killed this time. :~(

What I love is that rewrite is a renegade choice when it's first brought up as a possibility, then becomes the paragon choice when you actually have to choose what to do.

Ashley probably has the more interesting character stuff happen after you save her.

I still save Kaiden every time.
 
There's a universe in which Ashley kills Wrex. There are some unfortunate people's saved games where that is the reality. Is it even a question who to save? :P

Not sure. As tali says, sending them to a colony is just as much a death sentence as trying to retake their homeworld would be. Also: Rael estimates that he needs about a year to complete the virus. ME3 is three years later.

I know people would feel betrayed and all, but I would like to see some paragon choices pan out differently than you expected in the previous games. Much like in Fallout 3 with
the "saving the ghouls" mission with Roy and the tower and all

For some fucking reason I'm just now starting to see the appeal of renegade Shepard.

I mean, my broshep always had a certain degree of Renegade points. In fact in ME1 he had full Paragon and nearly full Renegade simultaneously. This time around in ME2 I used the full Paragon exploit but excluding that I think he had like 50% Paragon and 20% Renegade.

I'm still basing my decisions on my Sheapard's personality though instead of the points system. By and large, he has the utmost loyalty and respect for his teammates but is merciless toward his enemies.

Pretty sure she said it'd take a long period of genetic engineering, or something along those lines... Far too long for anybody in her generation to have any hope of living outside of a suit, but not a death sentence.

I've always wondered about Renegade BroShep. Meer's voice acting was so bad in the first I started playing as FemShep and never looked back. Renegade FemShep is cold-hearted, arrogant and impatient.

I was noticing the same thing. Even the conversation opener sounds ridiculously flirty.

But I'll probably pick Fem Shep and Garrus to carry over to ME3. The pairing is so ridiculously awkward that its almost kinda charming.

Saved them. Either way pisses the Turian council member. Love the renegade response if you don't "depends on the species---Turian"
 
I finished Mass Effect 2 for the second time today, the first time was at launch two years ago and didn't remember much of the game I lost the whole crew, thane and someone else I don't remember on the final mission, I was expecting to do better this time.

In the end all my characters were loyal but I lost half of the crew, Legion, Grunt, Mordin and Tali. I was playinp a paragon female Shepard that was imported from a save of a playtrugh as a renegade in Mass Effect 1 last week.

I was tempted then and there to try and do the mission again or even to start from an old save but I'll leave it like that and play all 3 games again next year and see if I can do better.
 
Trying to find the name of the theme song that plays when you're in combat in the Collector Base. It's one of the climactic battle themes that plays in a few other places in the game too.
 
About to wrap up my final ME2 playthrough before the release. Only have Legions loyalty mission and the final one. And then Lair and Arrival. I somehow managed to piss off Jack. I turned her down the first time romance came up and for some reason it came up again and this time I shot her down harshly. Now she just tells me to fuck off. Stupid bitch.

Some weird bug popped up when I finished off the human reaper at the end.

An MMO style chat window box thing came up on the left of my screen and stayed there for the whole end sequence. Felt like it came straight out of WoW. I was like wtf?
 
In all the times I've played ME2, I never realized EDI had new stuff to say after you free her from the restrictions put on. Shame on me. Everyone lived, saved all the crew, blew up the base. Time to kill the Shadowbroker and do Arrival!
 
I have a ME3 question, but I'm too scared to venture into the ME3 thread to ask. (No spoils in this question!)

Does anyone know if the Collectors Edition DLC (Ash one) will come out literally day 1? Maybe even midnight? (on 360). Or should I BUY it at Gamestop?

Also, FUN STORY. I've been to spoilers like Anne Frank is to Nazi's. And I went to Gamestop asking if they had any more collectors edition, and de mofo SPOILED a HUGE plot point. I was in complete shock, I couldnt even focus. What an ASSHAT!
