Conspiracy to commit assault? Give me a break.

Every blitz design is really a murder diagram!

To be fair, not every blitz has a limo and an escape route in it.

I don't get the conflation of the two misdeeds. I loathe the pats (was a big fan of the Rams back with the Greatest Show on Turf; I still think the NFL should strip their title), and Spygate was bad in the context of football, but it doesn't come anywhere near the heinousness of intentionally injuring others. Breaking NFL regulations pales in comparison to conspiracy to commit assault.

It's still cheating either way.

It's not the lack of sportsmanship thing that bothers me, it's like what eznark said, these bounties can be a means to circumvent the salary cap system and provide incentives for free agents.

Both violations are the result of a team trying to gain an unfair competitive advantage. They're both equally heinous.

Bah, it's bad, or maybe just stupid, only for how deep the Saint coach, or maybe coaches, was involved in the orchestration of it. Assault? That's a little much, it's not like they were going all Tonya Harding and waiting for players in the locker rooms with pipes. But this is Goodell's new, thoughtful, caring and strict NFL. So he'll want to swing his mighty hammer of justice on them.

I don't think they're equal. One is only heinous in the context of the rules of the sport. The other additionally concerns the health of other players, which IMO is a step beyond just trying to circumvent the rules.

To a certain extent, the league could investigate every team and find the same exact stuff

Nothing will change. It’s still football. If you hit someone legally, and they can’t play as well, or at all, that’s what you want.

It is said, yes, knock his helmet off, get an extra $10,000. That stuff is said in jest. Like betting on the sun not coming up

Or wave his flaccid cock at it... which is the same thing, I suppose.

Hey, just changed out the projection bulb on my 55" Sony SXRD HDTV. Had a little lamp message on there for like 18 months, and last night it had gotten to the point where it was like "yeah, I really need to change that fucker." Bottom line: a new lamp is like a new TV!

If I said I had paid someone to break someone's leg, would you think that was criminal?

The laws of the land are't suspended for professional sports, at least if you're not the MLB talking about antitrust regulation. Most run of the mill sports injuries aren't assaults for various reasons, but intentionally inflicted injuries in the course of a sporting event are a whole other kettle of fish. Of course, we know that injuries are often inflicted intentionally, but proof sufficient to satisfy the criminal justice system is often hard to come by in any indvidual case. However, here the existence of the payment mechanism is slam-dunk evidence that the action was intentional, and probably the first to overcome the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard required in criminal trials.

They already get paid for hurting each other. And there is only so much you can do intentionally, and that's usually punished by the league. More so than ever. Breaking a leg just ain't as easy as one might think. Though some Dutch soccer player might disagree :)

Every offensive lineman tries to block the living shit out of a defender. Every defender tries to knock the offensive player out. It's the basics of the game.

There is already a monetary system behind it. If you're good at hitting people, often hurting them, you get paid better. At least that applies to certain positions, and yeah I know it's simplifying it a bit, but for interiod o-line, that's pretty much it. You just have to be particularly stupid to design a monetary system behind it, extra bonuses and openly encourage more than is allowed. To me, that added motivation only goes so far and is limited. The competitve advantage is fairly limited. Yeah, the team should be punished, and will be.

It certainly doesn't even begin to compare to videotaping. I know every Pats fan is happy about this deal here. I am not surprised. I will take an overly violent football player over a cheating fuck any time.

That's pretty lame for the league's website to have up. It's something out of MSN or HuffPo. And the only woman there worthy is Kate Upton. Of course GAF thinks Tebow is gay or a pedo so maybe the NFL is helping him keep it in the closet or dungeon.

Maria Menounos aint bad either.

Pedophile and lawyer! Why I never...

olde

edit: got damn I dunno about you bros but women I am only just acquainted with don't press their breasts up against me when photos are taken

Chances are you're not Tebow. Chances are you also don't know too many girls that get their pictures taken for a living.

Saints tags Brees, then NFL takes away their franchise tag as part of their punishment.
I bet they won't though.

It'll be next years tag anyway. No chance they decide on a punishment in time. Maybe in time for the draft but even that is a long shot.

I can't believe St. Louis hasn't fired Williams yet.

Glazer is reporting the punishment will come down during the owner's meeting at the end of the month if not sooner.

Vjax come to chi town baby! I can smell him already.

I don't want to waste big money on another high priced free agent wide receiver near or over 30 years old. How did that work out last time for us?

You don't want to pay for past performance, I would rather get somebody in their prime or entering their prime like Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Stevie Johnson, or maybe even Colston.

I think VJax would be a waste.

Keep your filthy hands away from Wallace. He's ours!

Watching the Saints fall apart at the seams is so delicious.

I'm not normally one to take schadenfreude in my enemies' failures, but right now I'm like Freeman in a Taco Bell.

So Good.

And for all you punks who will say that Cam will get busted for breaking into Best Buys or some crap like that, Won't Happen!

JRich and Goodell are best bros. Besides, who else can provide ol' Rodge with a lifetime supply of Bojangles?

Gregg Williams may have deliberately caused Payton Manning's injury? Oh man he is toast. He's never going to be allowed back in the NFL again.

If those two can be linked together, Gregg Williams will be so blacklisted so hard.

Teams will be putting bounties on his ass.
Except for the Texans

Seems like a stretch. Yeah putting bounties on players is stupid, but QBs and other players get hit hard all the time apparently w/o needing to incentivize it. Who's to say Peyton wouldn't have gotten hit just as hard in that game or any other game if there weren't bounties?

Yeah but you can't say for sure it wasn't deliberate either. And that's how people are going to look at it.

But there are deliberate, hard, vicious hits in the NFL every week that don't require the added motivation of a bounty. You're right in that it's all about the perception though.
