Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

I went through the top posters list and added some more people, along with those who PM'd me. Hopefully this fixes the "it's missing too many popular people" complaint. I know some people will still prefer the huge version but I like piling heaps of people into the one carriage :P

I also added Yamauchi as that was the most worthy addition from all the edits :P thanks amtentori

The best so far.

Ideaman clearly hinted at 2.

He was expecting "1 or a bit more" but was "pleasantly surprised it was even more than that". I'm paraphrasing. Unless with "a bit more" he meant 1.1 gigabytes or something, i think we can assume he was "expecting" 1 - 1.5 and was surprised it was more than that, meaning 2, unless he meant 1.6.

And if he didn't hint at 2, like i said before, i can be in France in less than 2 hours!
*shakes fist in the direction of France once again*

As for the ram amount, I think we can calm down a bit and just assumed 1.5 is what ideaman was referring to. He might have mean 2.0, but it's better to go with the lowest common denominator to temper our expectations.

I'm still in the camp that think we'll only get 1gb, but that's just because I don't want to get my hope to high up only to have my dreams squashed. 1.5gb would leave me pleasantly surprised and 2.0 would make me ecstatic.

1.5 GB GDDR3 on a 96-bit bus would be horrendous. GDDR5 would be 6 chips for 1.5 GB vs 4 for 2 GB GDDR3. With all that eDRAM, I'm banking Nintendo go w/ the cheaper option now vs hoping for GDDR5 to shrink in size and come down in price. The same way they stuck w/ a 90 nm Wii all this gen.

I'd say that's a safe bet as well.
A larger bus even with slower RAM, but a large amount of eDRAM would still be pretty great.

we're thinking it's a 96-bit bus now?

As long as it uses the appropriate music in it's marketing, I'd be happy with that.

Nice. A Nintendo advertising campaign based around hardcore rap! I'd love to see Miyamoto performing "Purple Stuff" with Wii Music on stage at E3.. and then they'd announce that the Wii U would be available on Day 1 in black, white, and purple.

So Wii U is the true Gamecube 2.0?

On an unrelated note, I tend to post a shit ton of pictures and gifs, and stupid photobucket bandwidth limits are way too easy to reach. I'm seriously considering signing up for a premium account before E3 so I can get my gif on without worrying about hosting problems but I dunno if I want to pay $40 for 2 years just to post moving pictures on a message board. Blech.

Won't matter.
As Dr Forester has shown, you'll still break Photobucket.

Yeppers! Lettin' my imagination run wild right now.

Nintendo would have the most random, unintelligible presentation in the history of E3 with me writing the script. Analysts and commentators would have no idea how to interpret or respond, and the company's stock shares would crash.

Special appearances by Muddy Mudskipper and Richard Simmons, bringin' that "mature appeal!"

I posted my own hopeful transcript of their E3 presser but no one commented on it :-(

HNNNNGH

The screen looks pretty good considering it's just a LCD. High PPI?

Yes, the pixel density is fairly high.

Code:
1080p at 60": 37 (not meant to be viewed up close obviously!)
            DSi XL: 76
          Game Boy: 83
               DSi: 98
    1080p at 21.5": 102 (my monitor)
      DS & DS lite: 107
 3DS bottom screen: 124
               PSP: 128
    3DS top screen: 132 (effectively)
            iPad 2: 132
            PSP Go: 145
  Wii U controller: 158 (assuming it's 854x480 at 6.2")
            iPhone: 163
              Vita: 221
          iPhone 4: 326

I remember reading it. I tend to think they'll spend more time on the 3DS, but it otherwise seems dead-on.

One big question mark in my head is this: how much time will they spend on their blue ocean games? As far as the direction they're taking for the generation regarding the casual-core issue, this is going to be a very revealing moment in Nintendo history.

(and although I was joking earlier, that purple is lookin' delicious)

As far as the internet knows 4 GBit GDDR3 or GDDR5 chips don't exist. I think 2 GB is very unlikely, and if Nintendo does it they'll have to use DDR3.

Remember a while back when Apple took a dig at Microsoft with the "Redmond. Start your photocopiers." banners? Am I the only one that would laugh if Nintendo did a similar thing at E3?

(complete with Reggie chin-glare)

we're thinking it's a 96-bit bus now?

If it was 1.5 GB GDDR3 then it would have to be (or 196-bit, but that's really pushing it). That bus would end up potentially slower than the 360's though, and wouldn't make any sense if they were increasing everything else by 2x-5x. I'm thinking they crank up the RAM speed, throw in the even 2 GB, and call it a day. As the specs narrow down, balance must be kept in mind. My current breakdown would be this:

CPU: 3.0 Ghz
GPU:600 Mhz
RAM: 900 Mhz (x2 for GDDR3 so effectively 1800 Mhz)
