Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

The finger snap fire spark and hip thrust were the only good elements about it. The forearm shots and the calf shots were boring stylistically, and the calf shots were a repetition of what they did for the forearm shots adding to that. Toei should have just mimic Cure Rouge's from GoGo and kept it short and simple and not worry about adhering to a transformation formula, which they did with the redundant calf shots. The explosion was also bad and its placement was even worse. It looked like Sunny was farting it after the hair transformation, and the flair of the explosion was a whimper because the impact of it is diminished with the angle they've chosen when it would have been better to zoom out while it was happening or shot farther in general. The transformation in general has lots of color but a boring style that isn't far off from how March's was.

The leg shots and arm shots are rather standard, but the snap, as you said, and hip thrust are both elements that have no equal in Peace's transformation. The explosion is fine, it's just the background element for Sunny's transformation, not part of the actual transformation itself - just like the blue and red flowers for Marine and Blossom in Heartcatch. Sunny's hair change is better than any of the others, since it uses fire, while the others simply use a glowing white blob to transform their hair. Peace's best element is the rock-paper-scissors element, but as the rest of her transformation is so boring, with the same leg - arm - chest shot that all the other girls have, it's not good enough to overtake Sunny's.

Ano natsu ep1-2

It hurts how uninspiring and cliché this is,

Bland highschool kid has run in with alien waifu who happens to go to his school and like always now has to live her, things to expect are tons of herpa derp fanservice moments also she able to heal him by kissing(my eyeballs are go fall out at the amount of times i be rolling them) , now add some shitty friends to get in the way by cockblocking for the next whatever number of episode this goes on for.

It’s clear the studio that brought us “aria”, jc staff isn’t even trying anymore when pumping out mediocrity, this just an excuse to hit the waifu generator to pump out multiple waifus that come in different flavours and colours (you want tsundere we got that in blue), also there that token brotag.

oh and love chain, this show a piece shit compared to school rumble now that's a good romcom with love chain shenanigans and glorious cockblocking.

Nisemonogatari 09

To sum it up in a couple images and completely ignore the plot direction:

Level 2 hover hands?

Standard, individual elements, which doesn't work together with its best individual elements, that stick out and don't work well because of that.

The explosion is fine, it's just the background element for Sunny's transformation, not part of the actual transformation itself - just like the blue and red flowers for Marine and Blossom in Heartcatch.
No, it isn't. That argument only works if the background was on fire. The explosion is as much to the transformation as the finger snap. You're just looking to excuse it now.

Sunny's hair change is better than any of the others, since it uses fire, while the others simply use a glowing white blob to transform their hair.
The fire effect isn't any better than March's hair transformation, and they're on par with one another if the fire effect actually did anything else besides looking like fire. What the fire effect does is transition to the explosion in the background to distract you from the lazy hair transformation than anything else really.

Peace's best element is the rock-paper-scissors element, but as the rest of her transformation is so boring, with the same leg - arm - chest shot that all the other girls have, it's not good enough to overtake Sunny's.
I could make the same argument against Sunny's. It's just that Peace's works together cohesively much more than Sunny's because her posture is much better and isn't as fragmented as Sunny's. And the compact clap was on par with the finger snap.

Oh, and I'm not saying Peace's transformation is that much better than Sunny's. Just better than Sunny's. They're both weak transformations in general.

Ano Natsu de Cockblock 6

FFFFFfffuuuuuuuuu.......

Poor childhood friend ;_;.

Ichicka went way down the ratings, but is still managing to cling on to number 1, just barely.

I'm glad you went back and picked Ano Natsu up, it's certainly an entertaining experience. Good blogger ratio-kun has written up a nice piece on the director here.

It’s strange someone would write about such an awful director(he show do look nice but thats it).

Time to wash my eyes out with some beautiful directed batman tas after that ano natsu crap.

Nagai does what he does well? He's not the most inventive, but his execution in the genre seems to have been pretty good as of late. *Say what you want about AnoHana, heathens. I agree with much of what that blogger says.

You finally admit that AnoHana had atrocious writing?

G Gundam 12

Episode title:
He's The Undefeated of the East! Master Asia Appears

My feelings on this matter:

This show is the best.

Shin Mazinger Z 3

The narrator might be the best thing about this. He goes out of his way to make sure you know something awesome is happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPI6tBQz93k

Gundam 00 S2 2

I forgot how much I disliked Wang Liu Mei and I almost missed the post credit episode continuation before the preview. I evidently also forgot Setsuna really is Gundam.

Masou Kishin Cybuster 3

Militizaration of a environmental cleanup crew seems like a bad idea when members are against it. I'm for at it at least if it gets the ball rolling on things. The conspiracy plot line that's beginning seems interesting.

I think we might have to just move all this Nisemonogatari filth into it's own thread because it's clearly nothing but pollution.

So you're essentially proposing the creation of an anime Yucca Mountain for quarantining radioactive series? Have you considered what would happen to residents of surrounding threads if there were ever to be a leak?

It’s strange someone would write about such an awful director(he show do look nice but thats it).

While I wont claim to be familiar with his entire body of work I haven't seen any shows that would justify your claim that he is 'an awful director'. Perhaps you could explain how, exactly, he is awful at directing?

Animation that gets recycled constantly; like transformations in magical girl anime or combinations in super robot shows.
Ah, gotcha. And also, I didn't think that'd be your choice.

So Sunshine's doesn't count because of how little it got recycled before the ugly edits?

Same. It's very entertaining and doesn't really have anything offensive that puts me off.

My hate for certain characters, and their choice of actions only makes the character relationships more enjoyable to watch.

Shin Mazinger Z 3

I think it speaks volumes about the about the quality of Shin Mazinger Z that the humblest of all super-robot attacks, the rocket-punch, is treated like a monumental event. How often does a show even try to make such a run of the mill occurrence exciting?

The director was not the problem with Ano Hana. Not even remotely.

I'm not so sure I'd say that. His visual direction was on point with Anohana, but ultimately; even the narratological decisions come down to him don't they? I'm not sure how the hierarchy works.

The one and only.

Nice post battle type episode. Hard to come off the epic action of last episodes Zeydra v Age-2 fight but still nice. I think kid Flit was vastly better than Asemu
episode confirmed
.

Unless Asemu gets X-rounder capabilities, shocking that he doesnt have aptitude for it, then in the fight of Vegans v EFF at the Battle of Big Ring, EFF will lose, no way they can beat Zeheart's Zeydra.

I'm reading more words of wisdom from Hayo Miyazaki. Here's what he has to say about a time that many refer to as the 'golden era' (the 80's) and why he hates anime:
Hayo Miyazaki said:
I simply cannot describe the business we are in without a bit of bitterness. Compared to some of the works from the 1950s that I will always hold as a gold standard, the animation that we are making in the 1980s resembles the food served on jumbo jet airliners. Mass production has changed everything. The emotions and thought that should be so moving have given way to showiness, nervousness and titillation. And would that should be done lovingly by hand has been whittled away at within organized production systems that focus on straight work for hire. I frankly despise the truncated word "anime" because to me it only symbolizes the current desolation of our industry.
Truly, a man of notable opinions.

Ano Natsu de Cockblock 7

Well that was infuriating.
Seriously, Tanigawa in with another cockblock? You're annoying and have the least amount of redeeming qualities within the whole group.

Go away!

She was just wants to find her happiness, bro.

It's in my top 3, actually:
I find this hard to debate. Damn you 7th D:

The writing sets the basic framework of the story, and while the director can choose to change or omit certain elements of it, the writer still influences the very foundation of it at least. Aquarion Evol is at its best when Okada isn't scripting. It's having a small renaissance in the last 3 episodes.

Glad I picked it up at episode 8 or so, then. It's been very enjoyable.

I'm sure Nagai had some input into the story of Ano Hana, but the buck ultimately stops with the head writer. Given the difference in the level of writing competence between Ano Hana and Ano Natsu, it's hard to deny that Mari Okada was the weak link in the earlier show. I could also point to Black Rock Shooter OVA vs. TV.

The more I see of Okada's work, the more surprised I am that Hanasaku Iroha turned out as well as it did.

Miyazaki's been a bitter old man for a long time.

I don't think the original script would have been much better either if anyone else remembers.

Well, take Code Geass as an example and look at Guilty Crown. It's a surprise how well Code Geass turned out and much of that is thanks to Taniguchi among other reasons.

Miyazaki showing how ridiculous how nostalgia bombing is. Anime in the 80s was garbage too. Great stuff.
