I don't have 80 bucks to blow and it looks uncomfortable as hell, not to mention they have a longstanding reputation for being cheap-feeling and prone to breakage.

I'll stick with my two side buttons on my mouse and the hotkeys. I don't need no fancy-shmancy gadget to rock faces in this game.
Side button bro fist!

To each their own my friend. It is a bit expensive for a mouse but some are willing to pay. As long as you enjoy it and find your stride then it's all gravy.

I was thinking of getting a Logitech G13 for GW2. Looks like it might be more comfortable than a keyboard for movement.

It does look comfortable but unlike most MMORPG's, GW2 will only have a maximum of 12 skill available at one time. Two of those will be on long cool downs. Just my opinion but I don't think you'll need something as extreme as that.

Tilde is awful.

In MMOs I usually use 123456QWARTG for skills, ESDF for movement. Using Shift/Alt/Ctrl modifiers quadruples that for a total of 48 keybinds.

Usually enough but lol, skill bloat.

Tilde is the mirror version of 5 for those who stick with WSAD. Its the same as pressing 1 in ESDF.

Can you customize the bindings for 6-10 or whatever? I hope so. >_<

So what's the big difference between Humans and Norns? Is there any video describing the creation of a male Norn character? I only find female characters :|

I know it's a long shot that anyone will know... does anyone know what keys the game uses by default?

For MMOs I usually use... 1,2,3,4,5,Q,E,R,Z,X,C and V. Along with a Shift + of each of course. Got three extra buttons on my mouse as well. Looks like it will be plenty since this game only uses 12 keys right?

For combat you have

Weapon swap = Tilde
Dodge = V or double tap WASD and dodge in that direction
Interact with npcs/corpses/items = F

Obviously it's all rebindable

I thought the same thing till I got it, I'll never buy another mouse again. I've had mine nearly 2 years now and not a single problem.

Yep. Also, there's 16 combat based binds.

10 for the general skillbar
Up to 4 for the profession specific skill bar
Dodge
Weapon swap

wow.. that's some great perspective. did they say there would be more major traits on release or something? i'm sure i read that somewhere.

Yeah, it was from a chat log from a TB video where Jon Peters was saying there will be 12 major traits per line (total 60) per profession.

awesome, even more customisation. guess we'll have to wait a while before finalising builds then eh.

The Norn are about teen feet tall and get a racial elite that transforms them into a were-animal.

It's difficult to get a good comparison without having direct control of the map.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to tell without either being in it, or knowing where the zones end and all that. But from videos, like yogscasts, it seems you are doing so much and running from one thing to the other you sort of lose sight on how far you have gone or how big the area is. If it keeps you that occupied in a huge area it will be great, and really make exploring that much more satisfying to go back and realize you past over something.

That mouse looks annoying as hell. Two side buttons + space + normals is perfect for GW. I also would fear people with that reliance on side buttons would be slow for PvP. You are really imbalancing your inputs.

Just popping in to restate how excited I am for this game. Also, thanks to all the dudes keeping this thread going since it's easiest access for updates while I'm at work. You're all the best!

Not at all, you don't ever have to move your hands anywhere while moving and can execute abilities just as fast if not faster than with a modifier on a keyboard. In the amount of time it takes people to move their hand to Alt+1 or Shift +1, I can slide my thumb through 1-6 and use any ability without losing any movement or reaction time where as using modifiers forces you to take your hands off of your movement keys, unless you're holding down left + right click to steer.

What about Humans? Any perk worthy of choosing them as a race?

Every race gets racial utilities/elite skills (can't be used in competitive PvP) Racial skills are something we've yet to see in game at this point, but here's the Human ones with some notes on what they do:

I think they shied away from racial skills.

Didn't see any of them in videos so far, and it would go against their mantra of not wanting to potentially give better racial attributes to one race over another.

Neh they're still there. their just not particularily powerful and aren't useable in structure pvp.

Mouse steer would be my initial concern. But the issue is more with player processing. As someone who toils constantly with balancing hand inputs in action games, it is very important. My theory is that players will be more efficient with proper input balance even if the input reach may be quicker with a balance skewed to the mouse. I would only justify mouse heavy if you ran out of input options on the keyboard.

Part of me wants to include the interact key to make 17 combat based binds. For times you need to pop in and out of a siege weapon rapidly, or pick up a banner or some other environmental weapon another class dropped for you.

Yeah, it makes sense as it is the interact button which you'll be using a lot.

I won a naga in a contest and it was about a week before I went back to my Mx518.

I still havent found a better mouse than the MX518 and G400. I tried a Naga and didnt like it at all, you want your thumb for accuracy in pointing the mouse, not picking from 12 different tiny buttons.

Good god, that's just fucking ridiculous. I'm going to die. This game is going to bring the explorer side of me out in a dangerous way.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!

Like Arken said, to each their own. The reliance on using your whole palm frees up the need to use your thumb for accuracy. I hardly used the buttons at first but now that I'm used to it it's hard to go back to a regular mouse :(

The R.A.T. 7 for me. Love the weight and the ability to change the mouse. Was never a fan of too many buttons on the mouse so as long as I got a couple I am good.

Think about this:

All water holds content and fully explorable areas and there's underground areas that can be who knows how large. Though also keep in mind this here is the size of the explorable world on launch, the SW and SE areas will come post launch. Don't let this diminish your excitement because I can't even begin to stress how large individual zones are and the amount of stuff you can find within each. I actually think the entire western part (Maguuma) will be used and they just don't have the map finished for the Asura/Sylvari areas cause as it stands it feels like the Sylvari/Asura are going to get the short end of the stick from a unique and unshared leveling experience which wouldn't make sense considering the other 3 races have like 5 zones that are themed for them. Also, think of it like this, as stuff gets added it only ADDS to the size of the game and content you can do, and never takes away from it like other MMOs.

I generally don't care for extra mouse buttons but with the way this game forces dodging and movement, I bet I want to keep my fingers at WASD all the time. For that reason I'm buying Naga before this launches.

I take my previous skepticism away. I figured most water areas would be their own little area or something similar. So is the red lines up there the size of the zone(the outer circle)? Or is that your estimate. As that makes a big difference also.(if that's the zone, not if it's your estimate or not)

This is a more accurate representation, the red outline being anything inside of that is explorable with the exception of the deep, deep oceans since those are obviously not within zones themselves.

Tilde is the mirror version of 5 for those who stick with WSAD. Its the same as pressing 1 in ESDF.

Except you're pressing 5 with your index finger vs. your pinky. Maybe it's just me but I'm not as dexterous with my pinky unless the key is really close to the home position like Q, Z, TAB, CAPSLOCK, or SHIFT. In fact, I usually prefer to bind a combat ability to CAPSLOCK over ~, even though that often results in me yelling in chat on accident.

I usually leave ~ for non-combat binds like opening up inventory or menu or quest log. I'll probably bind weapon swap to Q.

Wow. Thanks for that. Puts it more into perspective.

Hope we get beta info this week. We need some more info.

Goddamn. I'm gonna get lost, guys. Someone come find me!

This will be a good thing. I want to in someway go into new zones and not use a map or something, just explore and not know where I am going. If it can make me not want to use the map and just see what I find, they are doing a damn good job.

I will probably be rebinding keys closer to to WASD, like QERFC for the first five, then 12345 for the other 5.

It is kind of annoying having to move your whole hand over to get to the last 4 skills with the default setup.

It's interesting too because when people see a map they only look at the surface. But with GW2 the water is content and fully explorable as well, I do have a feeling that lots of the water events and such will go largely ignored because people generally hate water in games. But what's cool is stuff going on underwater can affect the events on the surface, even talking to NPC and such can kick off an event on the surface that you may have otherwise never seen if you didn't bother to go down there.

In GW1 I was always amazed by how large the zones were, then I found out there were a ton of underground areas that you couldn't see from the world map and you'd go into an area and bam you're in this underground multi-level dungeon that's entirely off the map. I fully expect to find things like this, similarly to the new Yogscast video, but much larger. The markers are there in GW2 that shows you can go up/down, but it's up to you to seek out these areas and find what's in them. Then really you have cave systems like that jumping puzzle in the Charr starting zone that isn't even marked in any way and well hidden for you to find.

I can't wait to explore every inch of the map. Also, judging from the outlined map picture, i guess we can see where the expansions will be.
