Executing someone for a crime they might commit is beyond the pale.
I don't know if they could afford to take the risk that he might do something. As he said they had 30 men and heavy artillery, theres no way the farm would stand a chance against those numbers. It's definitely not a black and white situation despite what it may seem like.

Well, they could recruit the stealth zombie to infiltrate their camp but some short sighted actions took that play off the table. :(

In a nice civilized world I agree. Their world is quite different though. Trusting someone means your family dies. There's really no good decision for them at the moment. If it were someone who was shooting at me I wouldn't have even saved him. Rick created himself a huge dilemma by bringing him to the camp and making everyone a party to it.

Yup. And am I the only one getting sick of Rick leading things? I know Shane is a D-bag but man it would make for some interesting plots.

i had hoped at first that the injury wouldn't be so horrible and he would have been infected and slowly turned.

The way the show handles major arcs/plots is really annoying. The season began Sophia getting lost and that plot which lasted way too long. Don't get me wrong, the pay off was great but wasn't worth wasting HALF a season looking in the forest.

And as soon as we were done with that painfully long arc, we get the Randel stuff. Rick brings him to the camp and then we waste the second half of the season trying to figure out what to do with him. WASTE OF TIME. What makes it even more annoying is that they are STILL at this god damn farm playing house or whatever. It just makes for boring TV, especially with the stupid ass melodrama we have been getting every week.

I hope the team somehow gets significantly reduced to Rick, Glenn, Shane (I know...unlikely, but the conflict between him and Rick is always good), Maggie, and Darryl. Fuck the rest of the cast, I want to see some of the new characters I hear you guys talk about from the comics show up.

I honestly didn't mind Carl that much before this episode... he seemed pretty ok for the most part, not whiny or annoying. But in this episode he was just beyond stupid.

I dont mind the farm, but eventually they have they have to leave. I just hope Maggie goes with the group, instead of Glenn staying on the farm. I would be sad to see both of those characters leave

So if Merle does wind up leading The Others...

Does Daryl need to die? They couldn't expect him to not join up with his brother, and Merle wasn't exactly a great team player before they left him chained on a roof. If Merle winds up being behind the other group, there's a very real chance Daryl leads him to the farm because that's protecting his family over a broken group of morons.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not Dale!!! :(

This, just watched the episode with the GF on the 360. Damn, that actually got to me, and the fact that it was that little bastard Carl's fault for doing it. Also, wasn't the place where Carl found that zombie also the same exact place that Sophia got lost or was hiding when she was being chased? It sure looked like it.

Edit and I really hope people aren't posting spoilers in here, this isn't a fucking spoiler thread people. Cover that shit up or edit it, be considerate of others please.

Suddenly I don't find many of these guys any different from the 30 people they are afraid of finding their own camp. Suddenly these cast of characters are really vile people, especially Rick's wife she just wants to murder everyone just like her son wants to. Did the black man even have any lines.

Why did it seem like to me that stomach wound kept getting larger with each screen of it. Not very impressed at all.

I'm not going to say its horrible script writing/story writing/story direction. But why wasn't Lauren Cohan's character given more lines to expound more on what she knew about the prisoner character from school, to explain if she even knew if he was around a nerd a good guy a bad guy a jock a quiet boy or anything.

Aside from that of course you've got to kill the prisoner now after you tortured him by the skinny motorcyle guy.

Sorry but none of these characters are very smart.

Soooooo....disappointed in this episode so hard to care if they live or die now.

Because Maggie didn't know him. He made it clear he knows her, but not the other way around. He was probably a couple of grades lower or something.

Dale's death seemed like bullshit. Really, Walkers can easily rip you in two? How the hell do you fight them off hand to hand then? It seems like quite a few characters have held them off for a period with 2 hands like Dale did.

Anyway, it seems like an obvious segway to the whole group moving back more to a humanitarian feel. Kind of weird Darryl was the first one out there.

It makes sense to a degree with Daryl. Daryl is ironically probably the closest in mindset to Dale though with some more willingness to go to the extremes.

Daryl is trying to build up walls to separate himself from everyone because he's grown attached and losing Sophia was a huge blow and its easier for him to try and push everyone away so when the next victim arises it doesn't hurt as much. Daryls attachment is what has led to his willingness to go to the extreme for the group

We saw Dale even call him out on the fact he's a good person who cares etc.

This show kind of made "icons" out of 2 hats. Rick's Sheriff's hat, and Dale's cap. Now that Dale's gone, who'll take up the Mantle!
thanks. XD

Please stop talking about stuff in the comics that hasn't been revealed in the TV show yet...

Seriously, what the fuck. I just read a potential spoiler from iammeiam. What the hell is wrong with you, man. I read the thread for like 30 seconds and bam potentially spoiled. I had no idea that might happen and now you've ruined the surprise if it does. Sigh...can't read this thread ever again.

Like seriously WHAT GOES THROUGH YOUR MIND when typing stuff like that out. It would take someone with no consideration for other people to do that so utterly obliviously.

Are you serious? He's speculating on what would happen if Merle was the leader of Randall's group. That's all about the TV show.

Merle doesn't exist in the comics, so you weren't spoiled :) I share your opinion though, I don't like seeing comic spoilers in this topic.

I was worried I might have jumped the gun and that might be the case but then what was Rentahamster's post right after referring to then? Sorry if I jumped the gun, iammeiam. I just assumed it was a spoiler cause of rentahamster's post. Love this show so much.

Yeah dont worry none of the characters in that guys post even exist in the comic, so it would be pretty hard for that to be a spoiler.

Phew...
For the longest time this thread was a minefield, especially with the new hover-over spoiler tags. Felt like a mini-game navigating your cursor through the black lines of text. My apologies, iammeiam.

The comic and the show are so diffrent there is really no reason to be concerned. At least they have been so far. Ive read all the comics and I have no idea whats gonna happen next on the show. Half the stuff that happens in the comics wouldnt even be allowed on TV.

how do people who have read the comics feel about them being so different? is it a case of "meh the book was so much better than the movie, man" or is it fine

Rule in a zombie infested apocalyptic world: The skin of survivors changes magically into a weak cellophane like material that is easily ripped apart! You know im right, just watch every damn zombie movie!

And now its time for a random quote:

"Choke on 'Em! Choke on 'Em!"

Or, like the director for this episode explained, the zombie decomposed to the point where his fingers were practically just bone and nail, making for a great fork and knife.

That was what I thought right after the scene. Surprised people didn't pick up on it. That zombie was all skin and bone

Doesn't explain why Dale can't benchpress an 80lb corpse, or why a zombie that could barely escape a wet riverbed suddenly has strength to rip human flesh, or why a zombie would leave a still breathing cow it has just started snacking on to sneak around and ambush a deaf/blind elderly man...

While reading the comics I don't remember ever saying "Jesus Christ these people are stupid." That happens a lot in the show. Carl & Andrea are also much better characters in the comics.

Some things have been better. I think the handling of all the Shane/Lori stuff has been good in the show.

- They prefer human meat?
- He has eaten, so he is stronger than when he was stuck.
- Dale is weak.

-In the pilot, the herd of walkers was more interested in Rick's horse than Rick
-Dead flesh is dead.
-C'mon...We're talking 80lbs...
-Bad writing is bad writing. Making characters act stupid and irrational to service a plot point is lame. It's everything I hate about horror movies.

Thought the episode was great, and tbh i thought Daryl's comment about Shane having Otis' gun was fucking fantastic writing, shut up all the haters about Dale reaching in his assumptions.

Also i loved Dale's character, but thought his death was very well written. All the haters here talking about zombie hugging, like they're freaking experts on this zombie physics shit. How do you know? There's a difference between Shane, Rick and Daryl defending themselves and Dale. Dale is an old man, with half the strength and twice the moral compass, he panicked, he is not used to this world like he has said before.

It's like this thread is just showered with negativity. Oh it's boring how they're on the farm, oh lori is a bitch, carl is a whiny kid, poor writing etc. You people don't have a heart, you just aren't connected to the show. Did i want Carl to kill the zombie? yes obviously, but could i understand why he didn't? of course, he's like a 10 year old kid ffs, he was scared shitless.

They've had a shoe-string budget all season and imo since the break the writers have done very, very well in establishing character development. The only character's that have been disappointing have been lori and t-dawg. But even great shows like the Sopranos and the Wire had shittily written characters for god's sake. Every character can't be amazing.

Interesting episode.

Dale's fall was about as subtle as a frying pan to the face. I thought the attack itself was very cool, but sad that they made him go out like a little bitch.

Carl is the worst, he really is Lori's child.

I have as much sympathy for those angry in this thread as I do for those who post in Dexter threads. There is an implicit contract signed when you watch either of these two shows: "we'll feed you continued bullshit with the occasionally satisfying episode conclusion, you sit there and enjoy it."

I thought the cow was zombiefied, would explain why the zombie wasn't feasting on it. Unless animals aren't able to get infected?

You did see the part where he toyed with it in the mud? He wasn't scared of it. The only reason he got attacked (and consequently gave the zombie incentive to get unstuck) was because he forgot to be afraid of them, of what they are and what they can do.

The rest of your post I mostly disagree with but we can debate subjective tastes til the cows came home.

Dead flesh is dead isn't true. We have seen zombies without access to meat decay faster than those walking around. According to The Walking Dead wikia some walkers prefer human meat.

U MAD. I can't wait for GlennNOOOOOO.mp3 when Maggie dies to a zombie while he was incapacitated in a few seasons. Since that's the level the writing is currently at.

I was merely joking. Its just gore, it doesnt need an explanation, imho. Just look at Romero's movies. It has some gruesome deaths. Try and explain those deaths! :P

Fair enough, it is subjective. I do agree that he forgot to be afraid like you said, but i thought Carl's toying with the zombie was a bid to try and be like his dad and shane, he saw it couldn't move and wanted to act the big man, to try and stop being the helpless little kid whilst his daddy and everyone is running around saving the day. Then when the zombie came unstuck, he shit his little panties, and was clearly scared and realised he couldn't step up like everyone else.

Andrea had the exact same feeling, they were both shooting tin cans off a fence and thought they could handle it, then when it came down to staring a zombie in the face they both shit themselves. Except in andrea's case, she is not a 10 year old kid AND shane was there to help out.

now what would be terrible writing is if Carl suddenly turned all gung ho and started acting like everyone else. i know everyone whines on here about carl being useless, but c'mon man, kids are useless. especially in a zombie apocalypse. and even though it may be frustrating for some people to watch it's important to have that element still present in the show.

lol yeh just a bit. i think you need to get your expectations in check tbh. writing a zombie show as realistically as a new jersey crime drama, or a portrayal of drug crime in baltimore is fucking hard man. there are going to be times when you'll have to excuse some plotholes involving apparent zombie physics, or dramatic leaps.

was just trying to bring some positivity into this thread mate.

Yeah, but it doesn't have to be Lucas level bad.

"You kill to protect whats yours" or whatever Lori said was just *cringe*-inducing.
