PGR4 physics = funnerWhy though? Do shitty physics = fun?

I like realism better. I want a proper driving simulator set in a big open-world environment. I think that'd be awesome. Tracks like Fujimi Kaido and the old Forza 1 point-to-point tracks were fun because they give you that 'racing on public roads' feel thats so exciting.PGR4 physics = funner
And have we even remotely discussed the option of Horizon being the nextgen title?

Seriously, imagine if in real life, you could just take a Radical SR8 and were legally allowed to just GO. Wherever. As fast as you dared. Of course, in real life, you'd probably crash and die within 10 minutes, but its at least 'the dream', ya know? The closer a game can get me to this experience, the better.

I don't agree - PGR is fun because its an arcade city racer where the whole point is to earn kudos through style. Not everyone knows how to properly drift or do powerslides so they make it easier to do so. This is the exact reason I can't stand NFS games or TDU, the handling sucks. What's the point of adding ultra realistic graphics and cars when you're just going to exaggerate their abilities and absolutely destroy the immersion and atmosphere?
If I wanted to play an open world ridge racer I'll play tdu2. The forza name should only be reserved for sim, because then it downplays the rest of the games in the series. That's like gran turismo merging with mario kart. no thanks.
You summed it up perfectlyCept mine would be an ariel atom in the summer, on the 401 in Toronto - because the atom isn't legal in Canada

Very much so. And given that the trailer focused more on style than anything else, I'm hoping it errs on that side (though obviously not to the extremes of the NFS series). Drive from point X to point Y and earn Z kudos? I'd rather have that than just be restricted to races.Last time I checked, winning the race by finishing first wasn't optional. PGR is fun because it has one of the most fun driving models in racing games along with an incredible sense of style and believable game world.
That's what I meant by the post above. PGR4 had all those things save for IBL (though the lighting was pretty good as it was, at least compared to Forza at the time) so all that's really missing is the "open world" aspect of it. It's insane how far ahead of it's time it was. AFAIK it was also the first racer that used the framebuffer trick to use higher-res reflections on cars.I'm wondering if this game might be aiming for 30fps as it might be more graphically demanding with the potential setting to be locked at 60 fps. Especially if it has day/night and rain/weather, potentially they could use the IBL from Forza 4 and lock it to 30fps you'd think.
They better have walk-in/around garages in this game, they were awesome in PGR.

"To me it's not about competition with them. Having a colleague I trust to help me climb Everest, that's what I want. The next question is, do I trust them? There's of course risk. But I do trust their pedigree. Some of the best racing games in the last twenty years have come out of that post-Psygnosis fracturing and reconvening of the UK racing game development studios, and that's Black Rock, and Slightly Mad, and Bizarre Creations, and even Criterion. There's a whole lot of these great racing game developers [in the UK], and the talent [Playground Games] has attracted and distilled down into this team gives me great faith."
Greenawalt also made it clear that Horizon isn't Turn 10 or Microsoft's concept given to Playground Games, but the idea of Playground Games which they have been allowed to run with.
"We didn't say 'hey you guys should make a game like this', it was their vision. It was theirs. And they had embraced our franchise vision and made sure their vision aligned to the greater franchise good," explained Greenawalt. "And that just develops faith, right? I hear that sort of rhetoric from them and see that pedigree and I go 'I think I can trust you to help me climb Everest''.

Climb Everest's a buzzword for Horizon confirmed
Sala I think they mean get to the top
Anyway I'm super excite.
I think NfS Hot Pursuit gave a good impression of how Forza Horizon is gonna be.
If this turns out to be the case, then I'm out. And it would be a travesty on the Forza name.

God, I hope some of that comes through in Horizon. The city/landscape modelling, driving model/physics, sound (Wiswell is with T10, so maybe?) and style of PGR4 in an open world environment would be the shit. Hell, they even had the walk-around garage in 3 and 4 (and 2?) so most of the game has already been designed![]()
Greenawalt said the game has been designed with a different vision in mind compared to Forza Motorsport 4
The new game will make use of bits of Forza Motorsport 4's physics engine, Greenawalt said, telling me that the active collaboration between Turn 10 and Playground will effectively give players the benefit of not one but two teams of developers.
I was just thinking about that the other day (that it would be amazing if they adopted the COD approach of two teams). The games seem vastly different so franchise burn out likely won't happen and unlike FPS games, racing games can have lots of common assets. .
Dunno. There are different resource limitations when creating an open world game instead of a circuit racer. We should expect that some compromises will have to be made.using bits of engine, makes it sound like it won't be a sim...

At least they can look at Test Drive Unlimited 2 to see what not to do physics wise.
I don't think so. It seems to me that they've thought about this and made sure that Horizon was as far as possible from FM in term of concept. Beside, if it's not a sim then it will definitely feel different and no overlap will occure.I think a Forza every yr would kill the brand imo.. I also don't think that Forza 5 should come out on 2013 either but that's just me.
I was in the beta for it :/I agree TDU2 physics were not good, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit lol
I still try to every once in a while. I mean it's nice to take a long ass drive through beautiful vistas with gorgeous cars. I just don't deal with races and can't seem to drift to save my life. You're either in control perfectly or out of control entirely - there's no middle ground or recovery to be had.I agree TDU2 physics were not good, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit lol

I also think that if FM is treated (as I hope) as an ever evolving platform next-gen, this would be even more less of a problem.
just from that trailer i know i will hate this game already,
a shame to see a once great series go down hill with each game
lol, it's not part of the main franchise
Also Forza 4 is great. Better than any other Forzas.
4 is better than 3 but the first forza is the best by far, i played that game for way over 100 hours, didnt even complete 4 i got so bored
I played the first Forza but I didn't own an xbox at the time so I never got to go deep into it.
What was better about it in your opinion?
Yep, you give me an off road vehicle and I'll want to drive it through Death Valley. You give me a rally car and I want to hill climb and rampage through Finland. Tease me with a freakin Warthog and I'll want to do high speed kangaroo hops across Space-Yosemite while unloading explosive armor piecing heat-death upon my opponents. You get the picture.well the thing is obviously it has less features but the core game remains the same and i've gotten every forza game on release day so by the fourth game not that much has changed overall and it gets stale, you can say things like auction house and autovista are massive features but for me they dont do much, all i want is a lot of tracks and cars and modifications options, forza 4 has hardly any tracks for a game with that many cars and it seems silly to me instead of putting in tracks we've been asking for for over 5 years they instead make top gear bowling and stupid cars like the hummer. i really hope t10 focus on the things the REAL fans want for forza 5 such as night racing, weather, way more tracks and maybe even a track editor of some kind, oh and sort the old inaccurate models out (the f40 looks like a pile of shit)

Don't feed the troll.Yeah because the trailer shows exactly what the game will be like and is filled with so much information!
Trolls gonna troll I guess.
