The ending was so, so bad. I recognize that the author wants to continue his other projects but man was that ending shit.

It's weird because on paper there
seems to be closure but I was still like "ugh".

edit: In terms of other rushed manga, Defense Devil was another one. It started with such promise but the tone shift and overall plot shift away from the "legal" aspects of the show kinda turned it into a generic shounen. I was disappointed.

Exactly. I couldn't take an inch of the last few chapters seriously.

Defense Devil, what a wasted potential.. I enjoyed that one very much but stopped reading as soon as I saw others' impressions saying it dips in quality by several levels.

shit is so boring. I've been watching the anime instead of reading the manga (left off at chapter 81?). Other than the backstories to the main characters (which they never really do for bossun, but they allude to it in the OP's) stuff is either one shots or very short arcs.

Omg, do this! Do that! All of which are mundane tasks! With no real humor. I really want to like the show, and the Switch arc was amaaazing, but if it doesn't involve the main character or the student reps/president then its usually a dud.

Maybe they should have waited before making it into a series? The real problem is that it gets semi-serious with the one shotters and thats not what makes Gintama awesome. Bleh.

Dem suggestions. Muchas gracias, dude.

I remember someone saying Ichigo 100% had a really unsatisfying ending. Or am I thinking of another series?
Keeping it mahvelous. On Ichigo 100%'s ending without going into spoilers, I've had brief posts about it before. The ending may be disappointing for some, but overall the decision makes sense imo. Of course Yanime the group for the series before it got licensed, even felt burned out. I was in the same camp but really in retrospect the ending is fitting.
The final stretch was pretty underwhelming. I still think it's worth reading, though. Just can't expect too much from it.

Yeah, but IIRC there's not much development between him and the girl he ends up with so I ended up a bit disappointed. Main girl was more interesting as well, IMO.

Yeah I see that argument a lot and it's true. Buuut, I think the author could've handled it a lot better.
Been a while since I read it, but there was a severe lack of development with Tsukasa near the end. I would've enjoyed it more if the author focused on that.

I think that for Toujou admirers, the ending would definitely be underwhelming
I felt that the ending at least had closure, no doubts, no misunderstandings, only one victor. That at least in itself was gratifying for me.

I don't think the second point is true at all.
Nishino had the most character relationship development with Manaka through the beginning until her departure, where as Toujou didn't get attention until after the fact.

For the third point I feel that a time constraint could've possibly had affected the development towards the end and didn't get to flesh out her return. Or at least that's what I'd like to think it is.

The art, I always thought, was a strong point. The complete shift away from it's rather original aspects was what killed it.

I won't say more because lot of my other criticisms (and faint praises) involve some spoilers.

Defense Devil didn't dip in quality with me till I hit the incredibly rushed ending. It was a pretty good read up to that point.

Weird timing that everyone is talking about romance manga and manwha. I recently finished Unbalance x Unbalance. I feel the thing would have ended in half the time if the protagonists weren't idiots. It swung between charming and frustrating at the drop of a hat.

The ending was so, so bad. I recognize that the author wants to continue his other projects but man was that ending shit.
Welcome to Im Dal Young™. I liked the premise well enough until Jae-Kyung became a psychotic, needy wench. Though it was funny when Ji-soo goes to knock some sense into her.

I also feel that Defense Devil needed more coverage on the "turnabout" aspects of the world, instead the genre-shift hurt it more. Although cosmicblizzard may disagree(?).

Thats not yabastastic! I thought all the characters and plots were fun with the main cast and when not directly focused on them. Marathoned 35+ episodes in a weekend.

Did you happen to just drop off, Bossun just got his backstory episode like last two weeks and possibily still going?

I think they chose a great time to give it not only one full year but a second year of anime, favorite >40 episode series up there with bakuman.

fuuuuuu im like 4 episodes back. Maybe it'll finally turn good again.

Just some of non wacky/serious stuff they try to do is so heavy handed and not involving at least a little silliness like Gintama, which does that stuff right.

I'd also bet my money on a time constraint. I mean, there's a few factors and I think the fanbase getting tired of it might be one of them. If you read it from beginning to end without waiting weekly, you won't get completely burnt out but I think the author just wanted to move on back when he was still writing it.

So it got axed, eh? Well, that makes it slightly more excusable..

Welcome to Im Dal Young™

Even Freezing is heading there. What the hell was the point of creating 5 series at the same time, anyway?

By the way, has anyone checked out Koimoku? The Im Dal Young-psychopath faces effect is strong in that one.

I feel the same way i watch about 30 ep of it stop and said i would read the manga since it might be better but that did not help .

I really thought it was Gintama light but it's not even close .
Gintama is funnier , has the better chars and serious parts are so much better .

People complaining about Mirai Nikki have clearly never read Suzuka.

I have and it's no where near as bad as Mirai Nikki .
Hell in some ways i like the ending , since allot of guys that age would have run from the responsibility of raising a kid.

I remember waiting for releases like a slobbering idiot, and that's definitely where the burn out occured. Also, Kawashita-san is a lady ;)

I think the number of series Im Day Young takes on just means more money in his pocket without giving a fuck about the quality of writing. The same could be said of Seo Kouji with his bi-monthly Princess Lucia or whatever its called. His shit is much better left off as one-shots, although most romance stories are.

I dont think I could get into Gintama, cant get into the characters, based off the crossover episode, and I think I dont prefer its setting too much. Maybe Im too biased for Sket Dance cause I love the school setting and characters are a bit more relatable etc.

Does anyone here read Vampire Hunter D i always wanted to check it out but never did .
Since the novels in english was thinking about buying a few .

I read the first novel (which is pretty much the same thing as the old anime movie) and it was enjoyable for what it was. If you like the character you will probably like the novels.

Is Hotel considered manhwa? Cause I like that manga
Nope.
The ending was so, so bad. I recognize that the author wants to continue his other projects but man was that ending shit.
Agreed. You could tell Im Dal wanted it done. But it at least got him back to Orihime Vs.

Princess Lucia is the best shit Seo will ever do.

It has been a year so far in this manga so how come the characters still feel embarrassed when they get groped or see other characters naked? You think they would get used to it by now since it's a daily occurrence.

BTW I remember you guys having a discussion about one of this manga's characters being based on the author's wife or something like that. Who was that character?

Not sure, though it sure felt like the case.

I'm actually caught up in Koimoku, and...I'm not sure why I am. It's horrible. Spineless protagonist is given a little ability that gets him showered in pootang. Im Dal Young proper.

Man you should watch some anime ep , Gintama is one manga where i feel the anime is better .
The anime takes a while to get going but man is it awesome the funny parts are great and action parts good also .

Gintama Final Getsuga Tenshō awesome stuff.

Defense Devil didn't dip in quality with me till I hit the incredibly rushed ending. It was a pretty good read up to that point.

The point is where it started to get rushed. Maybe it was
around the time Elimona was revealed to be the baddie?

All in all, I didn't like the shift into almost pure shounen territory. The show was at its best when he was actually defending people and solving the "crimes".
Them bringing it back somewhat in the middle of the demon world arc was nice though
.

I'm also tired of (*whole story spoilers):
the whole brother/friend becomes antagonist for a good cause story. Between this, Naruto, Nabari no Ou, Kurokami and even some video games, it's becoming a tired plot point.

So it got axed, eh? Well, that makes it slightly more excusable..

If it didn't, it turns it into a downright bad manga.

Gintama is the only long running shounen I'm planning to fully watch. Still got like 180 episodes to watch. Man this gonna take forever

Haruna Sairenji

So she is the one that gets shafted later on?

Gintama's hardly about the fights. There are some good ones, but going into it looking for it to be filled with them will probably leave you disappointed.

I could probably read a volume in five minutes, depending the series and how much I liked it. But 1000 page novels I can read in a day so... :\

Even text heavy manga? Probably the only manga I can think of pulling that off was Blame and even then that was like 10 mins per volume.

The only 2 novels I managed to read in a day where The Hobbit and Alloy of Law. I shudder to think of the thought of finishing one of those huge 1k pages novels in a day. Fuck it's taking me months and I'm still not done 1Q84

edit: 10 mins to go through a Bakuman volume? My god you are a fast reader.

Yeah.... speaking of Bakuman, the next chapter needs to hurry up. I'm eager to read more. :\

One time I read a short novel so fast back in grade school the teacher almost refused to believe that I finished it so fast.

I used to be able to read like that when I was a teenager but my mind is too slow to handle it anymore. That's basically how I read One Piece.

Also it'd probably take you about five seconds to read a volume of Bleach.

It takes you 5 mins to read a volume?

Are you an alien?

Nah i just read really fast still it depends few factors like reading online compare to offline , how much i like a series etc etc.
I am person who reads anything i can get my hands on which why i just go on wiki just to read about stuff.

Yup, same here. I start reading Wikipedia and I end up all over the place with a bunch of mostly useless trivia that'll never leave my head. >_>;

I think the series that's taken me the longest to read on a per volume basis was Eden: It's an Endless World! Mostly because it's Evangelion brought up to 11.

From the description it seemed like one of those mangas that you need a diagram to understand how the hero is winning. Like Liar's Game, and that new one about the guy who got tricked into playing.

It rather easy to see how he wins it's Yuno , his diary and allot of this makes no sense what so ever \ why did this char do that .

You are giving the manga way too much credit.

:lol

Everything about Mirai Nikki is so contrived, especially the last few volumes. It sucked way too hard.

It's a shame, too, because manga in general could use a lot more yandere stuff.

Eden was incredibly hard to keep up with. There's so many complex character webs, back story, political blabber and plot-matter that I had no idea what was going on when I was trying to read from where I left off after a few years of break.

I don't know if I'd call it "incredibly hard", but it certainly was harder than the average manga. I did enjoy basically doing a marathon of it over a week tho.

It was a bit harder for me as I basically picked up the series around volume 12 after not touching it for 4 years or so. The scanlations were tortuously slow for this one.

I love that the art was consistent and detailed throughout the series even though the author had been working on it for over a decade.

So what you're trying to say is, Seo will always be shit?
You got it. Princess Lucia at least has pointless fan-service on cute female characters since designing them is Seo's only skill. I'll take that any day over A Town of 172 Chapters of Awful.

I don't think Suzuka is as bad as people say though. It is just really average with a nosedive at the end of epic proportions.

---

You guys must not be art peeps. I spend a long time reading some manga checking out the art. The actual reading for me takes up like 5% of the time at best.
