Ipad2 is as light as it gets without changing the size or making the front something other than glass. The inside components don't add much weight.

Well, Gorilla Glass 2 is thinner with the same amount of damage resistance so most likely it's lighter too.

NimbleBit's new game reminds me of this game I got for free from the Amazon marketplace for my Kindle Fire:

Looks like different gameplay and a pretty different concept, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the next game that shitty journalists try to use in the same way they stupidly compared SimTower to Tiny Tower:

Honestly, I am the least likely guy to defend this sort of thing, especially with it coming out of the bowels of EA's miserable mobile division, but I would really like the Simpsons, Tapped Out to get fixed, re-released and supported. Don't get me wrong. The performance is, currently, pathetic. Server issues are rife, and I'm lucky to get 5 minutes out of it between connection errors. Premium currency is ridiculously hard to obtain, and yes, some of the coolest items (Scorpio's Lair, fuck yeah) are ridiculously expensive.

But there is a potential winner here. The Simpsons universe is diverse and massive enough to allow for all sorts of content. Already, the fan service is admirable with references to classic episodes all over the place. The presentation is also fantastic. Anyone who downloaded it would have seen the excellent opening cutscene, and if you ask me the quality is consistent throughout, with soundbytes and animations ripped straight from the series. I dare anyone not to laugh at poor Milhouse flying his kite.

As a tap tap freemium game, it's pretty much standard. But the prices on "normal" units like the various houses are reasonable and allow for decent progress, and missions are varied enough for you to control exactly how often you return to the game on a daily basis. There are a couple of twists too, like nicking the Lemon Tree from other towns and daily play bonuses.

The audience is definitely there for something like this, and it would take/has taken a name like the Simpsons to justify this sort of game even being on my iPad. Sort out the premium prices, make IAP prices reasonable, tighten up performance (alot) and keep the content coming, and I could see myself playing this for ages. It's funny. Makes too much sense, I suppose. EA will probably just let it rot.

You sound like a beaten wife. "He can change!" :P

Valkyrie HD is out for Galaxy on Fire 2 HD now, free if you have it previously with the standard version on the same device.

Kids vs Goblins avatars! The game has just been released in New Zealand. It will be released tomorrow in non-middle earth.

I'm saving a few games for completion on my new iPad (3/HD/Haptic). Kingdom Rush is at the top of my list of games I want a Retina update for. Would be glorious.

What is it going to be called?! I can't wait three more hours!! I'm excited for SpaceChem, and definitely some other. I need to start getting them into appshopper.

I wonder if there will be any apps to take advantage of the Retina display at launch...

I bet there will be a couple. It seems like it would benefit Apple if they worked closely with some of the larger apps to ensure they were retina ready by release.

I wonder if they'll raise the 2GB limit because of it. A lot of the borderline 1GB+ apps might increase quite a bit if they optimize textures for higher resolutions.

Strictly 2D games should probably also see a huge size increase (maybe double?), as the 2d artwork will be significantly larger as well.

I wish they would make the 32GB model the baseline, and get rid of the 16GB one. It's really too damn small.

I think Apple feels that options like iCloud and iTunes Match have made storage woes easier on them. Obviously storage will be upgraded as they go forward, but I don't it'll ever really be a pressing thing for them.

I wish they would price the memory jumps accordingly too. The jump in price from 16 to 32 gigs is outrageous when the actual memory costs just a couple more quid. I do love Apple stuff but christ do they milk you for it...

While 3G is nice in a pinch, I really don't use it enough to warrant another 3G iPad. I'd rather have a wifi model with extra storage than less with 3G.

If you're talking strictly the 2D assets, doubling both the horizontal and vertical resolution requires quadruple the storage space - both for the app data itself AND the RAM necessary to run the app.

Developers should stop using this shitty "Name1 vs Name2" title meme for game names. It's getting on my nerves to the point that I'm avoiding buying the game just because of it.

Man , I am pretty excited for the iPad announcement. I have hardly touched iOS gaming since I got my Vita. A swank new iPad could be just the thing to rekindle my iOS addiction.

I still need to play the other two, haha.

They're pretty good, but both are plagued by way too much enemy palette swapping and dungeon re-use. To see the full story in Chaos Rings you have to go through each of the game's dungeons four times (once per couple), and Chaos Rings Omega's dungeons are literally the same as Chaos Rings' except with slightly different colors (save for the final dungeon).
Luckily Chaos Rings has a great storyline and characters so it's not that bad, specially considering it takes about 5 hours to do finish each of the couple's stories (so 5 hours x 4 couples = about 20 hours for the full story). Omega... not so much, but the plot is still good.
I do wonder how/if Chaos Rings II's plot will actually be connected to Chaos Rings'
since the ending doesn't really leave much room for a sequel, and that's why Omega is a prequel. Unless Chaos Rings II's story is about the alternate ark champions that show up when you defeat the Qualia it'll probably feel very shoe-horned.

There's plenty of other RPGs, Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land, A Bard's Tale (which will have the originals), as mentioned SE's other ports (the peak of quality being the FFIII DS port), but generally a lot of efforts on iOS do fall under the time killer / cash-in category rather than play to have fun field. If you have an iPad, you can grab the Avadon PC/Mac port, that's pretty good too.
.
I never knew about this. Time to look at the App store. I have to admit mobile gaming isn't something I can generally look at. Hack, I could never even get into CivRev (though I think that was more a time thing). Perhaps the issue is just not having my iPad setup next to me at work during the day. ;)

Since my topic is already on page 2 (which means dead to history lol) I'll ask here.

Are there any history based strategy wargames for iOS?

By this I mean something like an Age of Rifles, Operation Art of War, Steel Panthers and such. The platform seems perfect for hex based wargaming (touch controls for moving units), so I'd be surprised if there isn't anything, but I have no clue what the names of programs would be (unless there is a good non-Apple App search engine).

I just re-downloaded Military Madness Neo Nectaris for my iPhone 3GS and it's awesome.

A must buy for $4.99

The game is basicly Military Madness 2 (it's on Android too), was originally released in 1994 for the PC-Engine Super CD-ROM system.

Get it if you like turn-based strategy games.

Hoof-just took a look, and man that's an ugly game.
