RIP The Forehead. He'll play for someone else and probably still be successful. But it won't the same.

No player is bigger than the Shield, but Peyton was bigger than the Horseshoe.

"And with that, we officially have the greatest free agent in the history of the NFL"

Thanks for that, ESPN. Does this mean we're getting an hour-long special this summer?

I disagree, Reggie was still in the prime of his career. Even if Manning is healthy how many years does he have left?
If he's healthy? Enough to make the difference on the right team. Hell if he's healthy, ANY team would benefit considering he carried the Colts for many years.

I'm still waiting for Patriots vs. Delhomme 2.0

If it brings more gifs like:

Then I'm all for it.

You can't just look at it that way. You also have to look at the impact either will have on the team that signs them. It's not secret that QB's have the biggest impact of any single player on a football field. Putting this 36 year old Peyton on a 6-10 team can turn them into a 10-6(or better) team. The same can't be said about Reggie in his prime because there is only so much he can do.

He won a SB in GB, and they were terrible before he signed there.

As a Browns fan, I want Peyton to sign with the Redskins. Get rid of our competition of RGIII!

As a football and Peyton fan, I want him to go to the Cardinals. They play in a dome, they have an elite WR, and they finished a respectable 8-8 without a QB.

So what teams AREN'T in the Peyton sweepstakes?

Besides Indianapolis, is it New York, New England, Green Bay and New Orleans that are out? With Carolina and Detroit likely passing as well (Cam and Stafford aren't elite-level yet, but they could very well be, plus the Lions have cap issues up the ass already)

You're forgetting that it takes time for 1) Peyton's offense to get installed and 2) him to get on the same page with his WRs. I would guess Manning's going to be limited in how many passes he can throw as he continues to recover, so that'll hurt #2.

If Reggie Wayne follows Manning to his new team that would help certainly, but I wouldn't expect anything more than good QB play from Manning in year 1 with a new team.

That is a great point. Cam is a bust, Panthers could really benefit from Peyton's services.

I wonder what his priorities are. Is he unwilling to play Eli twice a year? The Colts twice a year? Really narrows down the options.

I think AZ can be crossed off. Terrible line. You guys hate Kolb but that OL was swiss cheese. Your favorite QB would have looked pretty bad behind it, and so would Peyton. Just can't see the Skins. Bad weather, huge Eli rivals. I'm sure they'll keep them in it as leverage, but that it. I really think Miami is the likely destination

Brett Favre threw for 39 TD's and won the MVP that year to. I guess if you're asked to choose between a DE in his prime with a up and coming HOF QB or a HOF QB coming to the end of his career with a up and coming HOF DE then I'd choose the former. But we're just talking about the situation of throwing 1 player on a bad/average team.

Desmond won that super bowl, White and Favre were just swimming in his wake.

Nah, Warner pulled it off with a slightly even shoddier line. We will upgrade it a bit before the season ends with Reiff or DeCastro and there's always the chance we could snag a FA like Bell from Buffalo. I admit that the line is the one area that hurts our chances for him, but every single other factor points to AZ being by far his best choice out of the likely suitors and I think he could make it work behind our line, especially if we address it some this off season. I like our chances of getting him, a lot. Hopefully he chooses a place within a week or so. That's assuming he can prove he's ready to play, period.

He made Collie and Garcon into threats with only a single offseason of reps. If the receivers respect his work ethic then his repoire with them should be fine. I'd be more worried about his communication with the o-line. They'll have it the worst.

Tough conference to sit through, glad it was relatively short. I love the Colts but I'm a Peyton guy first (especially since I'm not from Indy). Glad to hear he didn't want to retire either. I hope he goes to a team with a solid D and gets another shot. If not a solid team, then at least the Redskins so I can watch him 8 times a year.

Manning comes with Wayne, and he would improve the 9ers WRs. Their D is so good that losing Rodgers would hurt but it wouldnt be a huge deal, and Manning is millions of times better then small hands. If the 9ers have any chance at all to get Manning they have to.

Manning isn't going to want a one year deal and he's not going to come cheap.

The 49ers still need to sign Goldson to a long term deal (he's on a one year franchise tag) and Bowman's contract is coming up soon.

I'd rather the 49ers spend their money wisely and try to keep their defense together instead of blowing it on a QB (regardless of his status as one of the best of all time) coming off of a bad neck injury.

If Manning was healthy and the 49ers could afford it, hell fucking yes I'd be for it. I just don't want the 49ers to let their defense fall apart because they went gung-ho on a QB, when QB isn't their most pressing issue.

I don't really want the risk of Peyton on the Jets - it just seems like the sort of thing that will explode in typical Jets fashion.

But the risk of Peyton on the Dolphins and having them suddenly become a good or even great team is even more terrifying...

It will never happen, but If I was Atlanta I would throw Ryan under the bus for Peyton. Plenty of the fans here (at least the ones I keep running into) have already turned on Ryan anyway.
