I love how they are just callling it iPad instead of some lame term like iPad HD or iPad 3.

Since they only have one iPad on the market that makes sense while iPhone has multiple models. They need to have numbers for those.

In terms of pixels it's the same if not a bigger jump from the iPad 2 to the iPad 3 compared to your old SDTV to your new shiny HDTV. Don't under estimate that resolution jump in the slightest.

guys I wouldn't read to much into the battery life, games, and multitasking will bring it down fast

I normally get 10-ish hours on my iPad 2. I don't normally play a lot of Infinity Blade level games or anything, and I keep brightness fairly moderate, but I don't find any battery issues.

(Also iOS Multitasking doesn't drain batteries, because most of your "multi tasks" aren't actually doing anything, they're suspended in the background)
