Apple Event - 'Awe dropping' | Sept 9, 10am PT

I feel like we're in an era where phone tech isn't exciting anymore for the normal user, it always falls in the same brackets:
- Thinner
- AI
- Better Camera

And all those have been exhausted. Do we really need it thinner? Do we really need 8k focal focus dick pics? Does she really need to be able to count the faint hairs on my cock? Do you need AI for everything?

It just feels we've reached what's needed and "innovation" is just an excuse to stretch this out for maximum profit.

People tend to take a lot of photos with their phones, so for an expensive phone like the ones apple makes camera features have to be real good.

That being said, I do agree with you that for many years now all we see is stagnation. Folio style folding phones are interesting, but they're too expensive for now.

I don't really care about the new iPhone, but I really want the new AirPod pros. I use mine literally everyday, almost all day. Even when I fall asleep.

And the new ones apparently have "sleep detection", so they shut off when you fall asleep. I want that feature so badly.
How do you use airpods an entire day?

I wonder how their stock is going to take absolutely no AI news. The iPhone AI situation is really piss poor.

The investments required to have AI Siri and other AI heavy features is making them shit their pants. Companies like google, meta or Microsoft are spending tens of billions per year on servers to run their AI models. Meanwhile, their service plays are not doing that well: fitness, news, arcade and tv+ are flops. They're essentially stuck selling phones for money and investments threaten their profits line, which they are not willing to sacrifice in order to build better services and AI.

why would anyone pay so much money for a phone I just don't get it

every apple phone ever released has depreciation of 80%, it makes no sense to buy one new

Most people either don't pay it or simply don't realize they are paying it because of carrier subsidies/trade-ins/financing. The Samsung flagship phones are every bit as expensive as iPhones.

Like, in terms of battery life? I either pop one AirPod out and charge it, then swap, or I just pop them both out to charge for a bit. You get like 3+ hours of life with only a 10 minute charge or something.

Or did you mean it more like "how do you do that, you psycho?"

iPhone Air - incredible product. Will go straight from Pro Max to that.

The new Pros. Hideous design and ridiculous logo. Not sure where the Pro is going.

Ultra 3. Satellite rescue is a game changer for us scuba diving if it works in French Polynesia.

AirPods Pro 3. Insta order, but not convinced about the translation. Heart rate could potentially be better than Apple Watch when training - wrist is a poor place to measure.

What was suppose to be "Awe dropping"? Mild improvements acrost the board, the only "big" thing to me was blood pressure monitoring, and thats just because im turning 40 in a few weeks.

wild isn't it? I bought my 2016 iphone off ebay for £176

has a geeat camera too, pretty much all I will ever need from a phone..

I know lots of folks that leave them in all day. I assume they are mostly turned off so they can hear shit around them, but possibly these people are just listening to music all the time, just like the doofusses that walk around with big cans on their head. I'm sure Apple would LOVE to work in enough features to have folks 'need' to wear them 24/7.

That's an awful Pro upgrade for anyone with the 15 or 16 Pro.
I still have my 13 Pro, if I switch it makes the most sense to go to 16e

If you train by heart rate you will get a HR chest strap for $50 which will provide you with a much better heart rate than anything else, $2000 phone included.

As always - Apple's marketing.

Yeah, like how do you do that, you psycho? how did you get used to that.

Well, I'll tell you.

About 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with leukemia. I immediately had to drop everything and go to the hospital, where I stayed for the better part of a year. It turns out that it's insanely difficult to fall asleep in a hospital with all the sounds, and since I couldn't bring a white noise machine into my room, I had to adapt to wearing headphones to bed, just so I could fall asleep.

Between that first stay in the hospital and the elongated second stay, after I had relapsed, I had spent about two years training myself to fall asleep with headphones on. Now, it's difficult for me to fall asleep without them.

Even when I was in college, I would often fall asleep having the TV on with a sleep timer, so this isn't all that different. And the noise-cancelling airpods help keep outside noises quiet.

I probably wouldn't recommend it, though. Because once you're used to it, it becomes really hard to fall asleep without it.

Ah ok, that makes sense, if you had to stay that long in the hospital.

I can't speak for everyone but I just tend to swap my phone every couple of years because the current one is damaged or I simply want a new one again. Last one I bought because I really wanted it was the iPhone SE.

But it's not just the phones here. Tech in general seems to be stagnating. Nothing being release is groundbreaking new. It's only a little bit better than what you already have. TVs are the same. Up until OLED we had gerat new technology every couple of years where you just didn't want the old stuff any more. Still have my Sony A1 from 2017 because the new ones are only slightly better. MicroLED has been promised now for years and it's still nowhere near affordable.

Still on my first ever iPhone, which is a 13 pro max. Considering the standard 17, as it now also has a 120hz screen. I don't play games on my phone anyway, so doubt I really "need" the 17 pro. Would only do that for the battery and possibly better camera.

Never used a case on any of my phones meaning I can pick a nice colour, too. I would go green for the regular and orange should I pick the pro. If I upgrade at all that is.

Most consumer electronics are simply more than good enough now. You can always make it better but you can also just keep your already perfectly working "more than good enough" phone and focus on other aspects of life.

That would bankrupt Apple though.
