I'd like to think this move with Eli will help then restructure Jacobs down to a more feasible 1.5/2.0 million cap number but it all depends on whether Jacobs is willing to take that kind of cut. I believe he wants to be extended if he has to reduce his salary.

We'll see if the team wants to keep him that badly or not. I'll miss the memories of the big nasty runs but I'm also curious to see what guys like Da'Rel Scott can bring to the table with his speed.

He will be great with Ward on the Redskins.

Peyton better not come to the North. I am pretty sure he won't though and will to go to a dome team with good personnel.

I think Minny is out because APs injury is a question mark. Dallas and Detroit could be possible destinations depending on what ownership thinks of their current qb's. Arizona also might work, but I hate their owners so I don't think they deserve him. They probably dont has the balls to admit Kolb is a bum (ie pulling a yankeehater). New Orleans won't want him. Anyone else?

We all like to joke but Fattford is perfectly capable of throwing it up for grabs to Megatron. And really, he has the best arm I've seen since Jeff George. If he lost like 80 lbs he'd be rare athlete as well

The 2004 NFL Quarterback Challenge-

Mark Brunell
Josh McCown
Byron Leftwich
Joey Harrignton
Trent Green
Jake Delhomme
Matt Hasselbeck
Marc Bulger
Carson Palmer

Hot freakin' damn. That's a list of all-time greats if I've ever seen one.

I don't get this restructuring stuff. Why would you do that, especially coming off a SB? The way these contracts seem to work, I'd never give away "now" money for future money, unless I'd get cut otherwise. I mean just look at Peyton, a backloaded contract seems worth nothing in the NFL, as they'll just cut you or make you rework it once they have to pay you.

What am I missing here?

To add to Futurevoid's comments, they basically turn some salary into a signing bonus. That defers the cap hit over the length of the contract. So, basically, Eli will be paid the same amount this year, he just got it up front. They'll probably do it again next year and then sign him to a longer contract. Just keep moving that cap hit further back.

Redskins could get Peyton, Ward and Jacobs and still Suck. They should change their name to Nine and Seven. That's what they play like year in and year out.

Update:

Adam Schefter ‏

Bills announced that TE Scott Chandler has agreed to terms on a contract extension with the team.

That's one of the Giants TE FA options off of the table. I believe John Carlson is an FA again this season, no?

From a team or player perspective? From Eli's perspective, it's a win. He gets 9 million dollars TODAY. Guaranteed. Money that was not guaranteed before.

From a team perspective, it allows them to free up cap space RIGHT NOW. The Giants are reported to be over 7-9 million at the moment. This frees up nearly 7 million with player like Kareem MacKenzie, David Diehl and Brandon Jacobs possibly still on the chop block (that's nearly 12 million in salary cap space between those three players).

Isn't Kareem an UFA?

I'm with Wellington, losing Jacobs is going to hurt the most as a fan. He was so much fun to watch 2005-2008.

I wish we played like 9-7, we would've won a SuperBowl this year.

9-7 is being very generous to the skins

Says one of the teams that allowed the NFL's first 7-9 division winner two years ago, and hadn't had a winning record or playoff appearance since 2002.

Good argument. You're just mad you ended up with old man shanahan and we got the new hotness harbaugh. Don't worry tho, you'll get peypey, go 8-8 in back to back years and then have a new qb and coach in 2014

But his instincts were right on Harbaugh. It's his execution that is lacking. I don't know your cap situation, but if you have the space, Peyton doesn't cost anything other than time for Ross. You can still draft a QB in Rd 2 and hope he develops. Still use your 1st to get him another weapon

With RG3, you better be right. b/c that will cost a lot for how far they would have to move

I'd be fine if the Dolphins signed Flynn and drafted to their other needs. Flynn and Philbin are familiar with each other, so a reunion would be fine.

Anything but a past-his-prime Peyton, that's all I'm asking.

I didn't want Manning, but this commitment is an ongoing source of nausea for me.

The Chiefs would be very interesting for Manning, great home stadium and a great fanbase.

Jerry's just trying to be nice, man. I have a little bit of faith that we'll make a splash this year. We fucked up big last year.

I'm surprised with all the Chiefs talk considering that not too long ago we reading about Pioli being a complete psychopath. Why would Manning want to walk into that mess? They have talent sure, but the organization seems a bit in disarray.

Good player. Are Buffalo back to the 4-3? I wonder if he will man one of the OLB spots rather than end. I can see teams like San Diego, New England, and NY Jets all over him, though.

4-3, lots of man coverage, with very little blitzing. He'd have to play end but he's got decent coverage skills so he can play OLB in base, and move out to end in Nickel, love his versatility.

Who knows. Only thing we all know for sure is Alex Smith will never win a SuperBowl, and the Niners have nowhere to go but down as long as he is QBing.
