NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

They need playmakers to surround Bradford, so I think they'd look at Blackmon at six.

Buzz in STL is that they aren't that high on him. Don't know what they'll do now but I think at 6 it is wide open. I personally would think Fletcher Cox, but anyone from Richardson (though it seems TB is really high on him) to another trade is on the table

Fletcher Cox at 6?

This draft really falls off a cliff after Caliborn, or Richardson depending on whether you think an RB should ever be drafted that high. So a guy drafted a 15 could be higher on a lot of team's boards than the guy who goes 6. The thing is, there is no longer such a punitive cost to being in the top 10. So they may as well take a guy with high upside at a need area

It's a deep WR class, and the Rams still have #33 and #39, plus obvious ammunition to move up

Nawida was straight up decapitated, missed that earlier. Hysterical.

The only bad part about the Sanchez contract is that he's most likely locked in for one more year ('13).

My only guess as to the Rams thought process is that the Redskins' pick next year will be higher than 22, the Browns' second first this year. Only reason they'd pass up the same deal from the Browns.

P.S. The Redskins will play the Browns in Cleveland next year. As if watching RGIII go elsewhere isn't bad enough, we fans have to endure him beating our team in our city to boot. The lesson, as always, God hates Cleveland.

3 first rounders?

The Rams wanted that deal with CLE. WAS was initially reluctant to give up this year's #2, and CLE didn't want to give up its second #1 this year. Seems like a small thing, but the Redskins giving in sealed the deal. CLE finally did agree to that demand, but by then the Rams had finalized the trade with WAS

The Browns hopefully have a plan to fix that offense, b/c I can't see how their fans are going to wake up happy tomorrow

although my mind is on the Rams and all these draft picks my 9ers will have to deal with these next few years.......

my heart is with Jets fans... I know that feel, bros. :(

Half the fans wanted the team to stick with McCoy and pass up RGIII even if he fell to #4. They're going to be giddy the Browns still have all their picks. At least until the season rolls around and the team still sucks.

Ok so I am late to the party but RGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

I'm with Ninja on this, those picks weren't going to do the Redskins any good without a QB. Waiting another year would have been a disaster since the big QB prospect next year is Barkley who is just another overhyped loser from USC that will bust in the NFL.

What ended up being a first and a second round pick (both midrounders at best) is not even comparable. Also, we will still get a championship before the Skins.

well the skins trade has the possibility to be decent. if RGIII becomes a probowl QB and a star then that is absolutely worth the price. we pretty much already know what palmer brings to the table. god i wish we could get audio tapes of the discussion between mike brown and hue jackson or whoever negotiated for the raiders.

Raiders guy: Hey, we want carson palmer. We'll give you a 3rd rounder.
Mike Brown: The thing is that I don't really want to cave and trade hi...
Raiders guy: 2nd rounder.
Mike Brown: I.... what?
Raiders guy: 1st rounder!
Mike Brown: You've got yourself a god damn dea....
Raiders guy: 1st rounder and 2nd rounder. If he gets us to the playoffs then another 1st rounder!
Mike Brown: ....

The Raiders also gave up a 4th rounder for Campbell. So a 1st, 2nd, and a 4th for two QBs who are known to be mediocre at best with zero upside. That is way worse than two 1sts and a 2nd for a young QB who could actually be good.

Meh...I like RG3 but not enough to give up 3 first rounders...he isn't a surefire star like Manning. Snyder is an idiot, as usual.

Matt Flynn or Kevin Kolb (cough) come on down...

GO BROWNS!

You're forgetting a 3rd round pick for Pryor!

What the fuck are the Redskins thinking? Way to cripple your franchise for the next decade, Washington. You gave up wayy too much.

those are your words! remember? the 49ers offense is putrid and we can never improve with alex smith? so by your logic, no, teams don't get better they can only get worse.

It's one thing to believe a player has reached his ceiling, and another to believe a team has. It's not comparable. Nice try anyway.

Fitz not signing a contract unless Kolb got on board never went through my thought process until this post. I dunno about that rational of thinking.

The rational is that Fitz clamored for Kolb, he revealed that that's who he wanted out of all that was available. He wants to win and at the time, what did we have to show that we'd be capable of wining anything? I don't know for sure if he would have resigned regardless, but it's entirely plausible that catering to the QB he wanted was the only reason he extended the rest of his career to us. Either way, it's the only point that would make me feel alright about signing Kolb so I'm going to stick with it.

The Browns fail to get another potentially great player?

Fun times in Cleveland again!

I know the price was steep just bummed out we miss out on another potential awesome dude.

Ah well, stockpile those picks again.

If we had given up three firsts the rebuild would just have taken longer. I like the fact that it is out of our hands now. The fans can't get mad at H&H for not getting RG3 because that price is just enormous.

Plus, we now get to see Heckert wheel and deal in the draft. He could quite easily trade down now, perhaps even with the Rams at #6, for more picks. Giving Heckert more picks is always a good thing and as you say, we could always flip them over to next year and make a run at Barkley.

time for the Browns to overpay for Flynn.....

I don't want that guy in Seattle. Not that he is proven, but I'd rather just face Jackson/Whitehurts.

I hope the Colts select RG3 instead. Would be funny since everyone expects him to go at #2.

Certain demographics will prevent RG3 from going to Indy, but playing for the D.C. area is a perfect fit for Griffin , since it's also known as, 'Chocolate City'.
