Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

You lacked space magic war assets I guess. I got 3 choices. The destruction choice with Anderson shooting the red thing, the control choice showing the Illusive Man using the blue rod thing and being electrocuted and the huge green space magic beam choice.

Why war assets influence this is beyond me though.
I had enough magical assets :D

Yeah that's what confused me I thought my lack of war assets would just make the outcome of the battle worse (more casualties, etc.). But spacemagic.

ME1 had the most cliche ending ever. They wanted to emulate 80s films... and by God, they did.

See, I never understood this bit- what '80s sci-fi films as ME supposed to be influenced by and subverting? All I remember about '80s sci-fi were a gajillion post-apocalyptic films, Return of the Jedi, E.T., and The Last Starfighter. What space opera films came out in the '80s?

Star Wars pretty much defined the Space Opera genre.

Yeah, but Star Wars isn't '80s. I keep on hearing that Mass Effect is an homage to '80s sci-fi. What exactly is '80s sci-fi?

It was a good series. What a rotten way to end.

Can't wait for them to make ME 4 and retcon the destruction of the Mass Relays as something that the galactic community fixed in a few months, and at the end you fight super Catalyst Shepard.

It's clear these games were written haphazardly on the spot which seems strange considering BioWare kept going on about how they were planning this as a trilogy from the beginning. Well, you could have fooled us BioWare because it really comes off like you didn't plan anything.

As flawed as he's become, it seems like the only guy in modern sci-fi who's ever plotted out an epic saga from start to finish is probably George Lucas.

I finished it yesterday, but am only now getting over the shellshock of having witnessed what had been shaping up to be a satisfying conclusion to one of my favorite sagas in gaming implode and collapse in a matter of minutes.

Nearly every fan outline presented in this thread is superior to the red, green, or blue magic laser nonsense we actually got from the Ghost of Vent Kid. I was hoping the post-credit scene would somehow be more meaningful, but "LOL MY SWEET" only made things worse. I'll admit that I'm slightly impressed at how Bioware managed to confuse, frustrate, and disappoint so many in such a short span of time. I wouldn't have thought it possible.

Still, the abysmal ending doesn't change the great moments along the way, (though it certainly makes many of them seem futile). Most of my favorites have already been mentioned: Liara's "Vigil" box to members of future cycles, "I'm Garrus Vakarian and this is my favorite spot on the Citadel", Mordin going out with a song, Tali's reaction to setting foot on the Quarian homeworld and the resolution of the conflict with the Geth, Grunt tearing swarms of Reaperized Rachni numerous new assholes, the fall of Thessia, the list goes on and on.

The constant callbacks to the exploits and encounters of the last two games, and the wonderful banter and interactions among your squad really cemented that they were just that-- your friends and allies that had been along on an epic and memorable adventure that I am genuinely sad to see come to an end. The last exchanges with each of them in London were often poignant, and while the payoff at the end of the journey was garbage, I'll be damned if it wasn't a hell of a ride getting there.

So I'm still trying to figure out why Shepard didn't just go to Ilos and Mass Relayed his ass back onto the Citadel, did the writers completely forget that it existed?

wow. awesome game up right until the end. :( the ending was lame.

Well said. thats how I feel.

I think we're missing the big picture.

When the galaxy eventually rebuilds, and with Shepard now gone for many of us, exactly who is supposed to introduce tabloid journalists and their disingenuous assertions to the fist of justice?

Who?!

+1 on this.

Also, Garrus and Tali hooking up. Was funny walking in on those two.

And many people will buy it... I won't ...
Will watch DLC on YouTube

Im weak man.
Mass effect maybe still is the best ip that came out this gen.

in the denial phase, didn't the old man said something about maybe he fucked up some faqs when telling the story. Please tell me old man you fucked up at the end.

And tali getting drunk that was so cute. I always had a feeling Tali had a teen crush on shepard.

My boy Garrus will take care of those assholes. And he'll do it while uttering one of his usual sulky, dry sarcastic lines.

I'm sorry man, he'll die in the jungle from the lack of dextro-amino food. Or maybe he's lucky and the rest of the crew except Tali will die instead? Who knows, another BioWare mystery.

I think I'm finally hitting the acceptance stage of grief. I've accepted that the end of this game is some god-tier bullshit, and there's nothing we can do about it other than bitch until BioWare responds (and then bitch a lot more). But if I ignore the ending, I would seriously give this game a 10/10. I hope most people don't lose sight of the whole game that came before those godawful final 15 minutes.

Fuck you BioWare for tarnishing an otherwise fantastic series.

I still dont understand why they simply couldnt keep the Reapers as intergalactic boogie men who millions of years ago killed their own creators and wiped out all organic life in the Galaxy, but realized they needed to harvest organics to stay alive, or expand their consciousness or something vague but sinister and decided the best course of action was to come in a cleanse the galaxy every 50k years for maximum effectiveness.

Hell even to just be dicks and show organics how superior they were by allowing civilizations time to advance and think theyre the master of the galaxy and then show up and be like "Yo bitches, guess whose back. We're gonna fuck your shit up and massacre your entire galactic empire because synthetic rule and organic drool."

Trying to throw in some misguided but altruistic intentions was the dumbest thing ever.

The ending was... err.. odd. It really felt like they took a writer who had no knowledge of the Mass Effect universe, gave him a general idea of what the story is about, gave him some buzz words, and told him to make up some endings.

That's exactly what happened. The writer for ME3 has literally no previous experience.

I'm pretending that ending didn't happen and everyone who survived started going back to normal. Garrus will take Shepard's spectre space and kick ass in honor of him or some shit.

Yeah I really loved the game but it's hard for me to even look at the 3 desktop icons right now let alone play any of them again. I need more time to heal. The game has too many great moments to shelve forever though, I'll just have to play and stop before you make that desperate charge into the light.

should have just run away and let the reapers win.

Please tell me there is a higher res version of this.

After playing the DLC...I can't believe they cut it out of the game tbqh. The character adds a lot of backstory and further explains some of the origins of the ME series.

Shameful tbqh.

You can't? It fits in the story so much better than their previous companion DLCs, it was fairly obvious it was. Unless you mean from a moral standpoint, and in that case... EA

Yeah, i really love this series so much, because it hits all the right notes, from the colors used (i think i love this the most about the graphics) and the atmosphere the world breathes to the characters and even the storyline (even though its a pretty big mess once you start going over the details). Its pretty much what i want from videogames and i see Mass Effect 3 as the new benchmark for a lot of things i expect from future rpg's (and yes, i consider it a full rpg, despite what some people may claim). But that ending, ugh, it seriously hurt and i know its dumb as fuck to feel this way about media, but still. I guess its a compliment to Bioware for creating a world and characters you can care about.

Also, the best thing about Mass Effect is that it is in space instead of medieval fantasy. The world needs more space opera rpgs.

*High five*

He's always been my favorite squadmate, but his Bro Quotient was off the fucking charts in this game. I brought him along on every mission and sidequest and his reactions and dialogue in every situation were pitch-perfect and often funny.

His out-calibrating Legion-- 0.43%!-- slayed me, particularly the falsely modest, unassuming tone in his voice. Calibrations, bitches, G-Vak knows how they work.

I love-hate the ending. The thing that bothered me the most is probably the citadel and mass relays going down the shitter. I got that melancholy feeling you get when you follow a series the whole way through and realize the epic story is done.

But back to the Mass Relays, I think why a lot of people have a problem with it, it destroys the universe. There's no more flying across the galaxy, it makes the entire series almost pointless. It takes every species back to pre-space travel, which really bothers me.

Garrus is probably the coolest partner to ever grace a videogame, I really enjoyed hanging out with him on the citadel. It was a pointless mission, but it was cool to see Shepard and Garrus bro it up.

Goddamn, I loved everything about the game all the way up to the meeting with the space god or whatever. Charging into that light was so incredibly epic, and what about your squadmates who charged into the light with you? Were they supposed to die, they were clearly on the Normandy in the jungle scene, but it sounded as though they all died.

I plan on hitting Alt-F4 right before the elevator takes Shepard to meet the magic boy. Earth being screwed no matter what would have made for a decent ending compared to what we got.

Then I'll go to YouTube and watch the credits scene. I'll be sure to look away when the writing team shows up.

If there were a Garrus spinoff trilogy, I would buy it so goddamn fast.

Before ME3 and its terrible destroy the Galaxy endings I wanted two games to be made after ME3. First was a Space-Sim following the misadventures of an independent captain and his/her crew in their attempts to find fame/glory and credits.

The second was a game where you play a real Spectre, or even C-Sec offcer, who did actual police/investigatory work and didnt end up in a situation where you had to go save the galaxy, but just go on some really interesting cases with cool NPCs and political/corporate espionage type stuff.

But nooo they had to destroy the relays and the citadel and muck up the entire foundations of all galactic society. So who knows what we'll get and most likely it'll be another big huge gotta save life as we know it story.

I hate to ask something like this, but if anyone has an N7 hoodie code that they are not going to use, might you be so kind as to PM it to me? I would very much like to have it! Thanks in advance!
