NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

NBA GAF is great once you get into it. They're pretty hard on new guys, but as long as you don't pull a jdez and lose your everlasting mind when people tease you, you'll be fine.

NBA GAF is great except for the lakers fans. unfortunately 90% of the people who post there are lakers fans.

also this thread owns, definitely the best age or gaf or whatever, there's a nice mixture of actual football discussion and lighthearted offtopic stuff (and no one is actually that mean, with maybe a few random exceptions).

When I started posting in these threads I found NFL GAF to be pretty welcoming and no one really made it seem like it was some place only for insiders or long time posters.

I think it depends on timing. If you come around when playoffs start, and magically are a lifelong you are going to catch shit. Other than that it seems nobody is really that hard on new people.

I agree with this. I came into this thread at probably the worst time but it is what it is. Even when people give a little shit to you because of that it's still enjoyable.
From what I've seen with the MLB thread they rarely go off-topic and it's not even the regular season yet.

Jags fan. When Jags players called the Texans dirty I said they were a bunch of wimps who were angry because they sucked. He posted in the thread for a couple pages defeding them.

If thats the case they can just fill the NFL thread with pics of blue tarps.

That was iapetus. If that had been opiate, we'd still be mourning your banned corpse.

RIP DM, snes and Frank!

I've had people tell me how mean the thread is but they often don't realize most of its lighthearted even if it does look horrible out of context.

Odd that you show up when Buckethead starts posting... guess that ipad didn't get sold.

Well then. Why cant they just use casual names like "Dan" or "Todd". Confusing stuff.Would you guys mourn me? Awwwwwwwwwww tear

NTW, Peyton wont sign with Miami, Arizone or Denver. It will be a darkhouse that we all least expect. And, no, it wont be Houston either

Spring forward means 1 hour closer to the draft, training camp, preseason, opening day. Sacrifice the sleep for the greater good.

I like the leap Uncharted 2 made from the original game. 3 is great (really great) but Uncharted 2 really did not need any fixing.
Leap how?

Sure, it all gets a little repetitive but U3s more focused story with less pandering puts it over the top for me.
And the scene
of Nate wandering in the desert and later on horseback
was really badass.

Multiplayer (had fun with it for awhile), visually, story. Not a gigantic leap but it felt like a bigger improvement than what 3 offered. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of them.

On a serious, totally on topic note...

Uncharted 3 is the best in the series and anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Uncharted 1 suffered from severe Sony fan overhype. Part 2 was amazing, though. haven't played 3 yet but it has to be pretty amazing to top that.

I really like #1, it's more logical.
You go to one place to find one thing.

Sure it has a lot of flaws in the gameplay compared to 2 and 3.

Uncharted 2 was like National Treasure where 500 clues lead to another clue.
There's a measure of that in Uncharted 3 but it's more down-to-earth for what it is.

I dunno.

It just felt kinda boring to me. Leading up to it we kept hearing about how amazing the graphics engine is and you can really appreciate it - if you like the color of plants and/or rusted metal. Both games are just shooting galleries but that seemed to be painfully obvious in Uncharted. U2 was inifinitely better in providing variety in the locations and I found I *really* appreciated the graphics more because of it. Also felt like the shooting mechanics and feel of the guns was better.

Also, any logic in U1 was pissed out the window for me when the 'supernatural' shift happened late in the story that made it feel like an entirely different game and felt really lame. Even the U2 supernatural elements felt more a part of the 'flow' of the story IMO.

But yeah, I really gotta play U3.

Hope NFL GAF can stay the way it is. I barely watch football anymore due to horrendous time zone change and having internet that makes streaming next to impossible. This thread keeps me up with the news and makes me still feel apart of what is going back home in the NFL. I take my sports seriously and I like that in NFL GAF we can make fun of players and other posters without anyone taking it personally. When is the last time one person took something as an offense and it got heated here? I don't really see how we are that insular, this is what it is like for hardcore fans. We welcome people fairly well and even let lifelongs a chance to prove themselves. The shame shit goes on in any other thread here. If this thread gets moved to community, I hope they put a sticky for it as I was trying to find poligaf one time and it was buried under countless game threads.

I agree with you completely. The story arc of 2 is identical to 1 just more bloated.

Nate: "I give up, its too dangerous"

Elana: "But you can't stop now"

Nate "OK"

then you get the predictable and unnecessary super natural twist. I thought 3 was the best.

Uncharted 2 is a good game, but that series (and Assassin's Creed, really) have perfected meaningless platforming. It's a time waster more than anything else.

This gen's weird. I find Assassin's Creed II to be an extremely flawed game when it comes to ease, the janky combat mechanics, the controls that feel more like you're steering a horse than a character, and the easy platforming. I'm not even going to mention the cockamamie sci-fi gods plot.

Despite all of its major flaws, I really enjoyed it. I find the exploration of Florence and Venice to be compelling, and there are a handful of times where the mechanics actually work as I'm sure they scripted that pay off.

the regular OT is becoming bland and stale and over regulated. We need to start the XOT where people can be as edgy as they want.

Does Uncharted 3 have some retarded zombie twist? If not it is automatically the best in the series.
I'm sure Naughty Dog's rationale is that there needs to be variety in the combat outside of shooting brown mercenaries.

So their solution is big blue people that take 5 grenades to kill
Exaggeration intended
.

No one plays those games for the garbage combat anyway. So to change up the shitty combat to offer "variety" which just makes things worse they in turn ruin the stories.

Smart!

Well, without the combat, it'd be "Push Up/Left/Right to Win: The Game."

The combat isn't terrible in Uncharted. The AI just isn't that great, and the canned animations lead to some stupid moments.

Game functions the best with a insane set pieces. Helicopter section in Tibet was the best action in the series, IMO.

It would be a shame if the sports threads got changed somehow. Really feels like they've always been the kind of thing forums strive for, in terms of regular discussion and a dedicated userbase.

I know some people have whined about folks not being 'nice' enough, particularly in the NBA thread, but honestly the 'lifelong' situation gets a little grief in any sports community. Sports fans know this, and if it was really that terrible I don't think these threads would be as popular.

The only time sports threads suffer is when one fanbase dominates it. There are some cool folks in Laker-Age, but obviously that's kinda what happens in the NBA thread. Though, it's kind of indicative of the situation in the NBA, so what can you do.

And I've been in the NBA thread long enough to know that some of the folks that came in there had no real intention of discussing anything.

*shrug* I dunno, sports threads seem to be a real awesome community in general and kind of 'relief' from some of the regular stuff in rest of OT imo. They feel like more of an asset to this board to me.

Right, it services the story. And honestly, I think I would prefer Uncharted as an adventure game.

Answer:
The only supernatural stuff is because the main character accidentally takes drugs. So yeah, best in the series.

I've thought about starting my own forum for football friends.

I like pretty much everyone in NFL-GAF though, so wouldn't want to, unless you followed me Moses style.

Also it's a balls load of work.

"WELCOME TO...THE XOT!"

Another of our patented innovations will be mandatory web cams during games so we can see posters live reactions when their teams lose (warning: Footage will be turned over to police if domestic violence occurs....not singling out any fan base in particular.....)
