I'm done with this stupid fucking game and its developers. Five years for a cocktease. And the cocktease is "FACEBOOK LIKE FOR WATCHING SHITTY VIDEO PLZ".

Fuck these assholes. Might as well change the byline of this thread to "Gaming's Cartmanland".

What... really? It's just for a beta. The game is still going to release, and it's going to be good. Calm down.

Colin Johanson is my favorite of all the developers. The guy has incredible passion.

That they sent out something leads me to believe this weekend or the next beta invites will go out, then the weekend after, it's go time.

And oh so many swords. Which one will he swing?

All of them.

I don't mind having to pay to respec. I didn't even mind how WoW did it where it was pretty expensive to respec. It adds some gravity to your decisions.

It's not the not getting into the beta thing. I've had disappointment before. It's the arrogance. They could have just shut their mouths like every other developer. But instead we get begging for Facebook likes for an "exclusive" video.

I'm getting off this insane hamster wheel of hype and denial. Enjoy the game when it comes out.

ANet is one of the LAST developers I'd ever call arrogant. They fucking have tech to ELIMINATE SERVER QUEUES and didn't say a damn thing about it till someone saw a message in a screen shot. Other developers would have been flaunting that shit every time their game was mentioned as a bullet point.

Nothing compared to the Rift beta. Trion whored out beta offers like it was going out of style. Like us on Facebook! Tweet about us! Become a member of x and y websites to enter the beta draw! etc etc. I've never seen anything like it.

Their videos DO come off in a smug Apple sort of way. I say this as someone who doesn't keep up with the MMO landscape, and who has a slight interest in GW2. I should be about as unbiased as they come.

That being said, their product is looking phenomenal, and I think they deserved to feel a little justified smugness.

Every developer has tech to eliminate server queues. It's called "scale your game properly".

I don't give a medal to my cat because it learned to shit in the litterbox. Developers shouldn't get medals for making their game do the incredibly demanding task of letting their customers play that game they paid for.

Is it that serious? Just don't click on the link? Why such a big deal that they are posting to FB when its a big platform.

If this was their aim why would they send it out to only the people who signed up for their beta? They could have just put a little more footage on the video and sent it out all over the place to like it to see it. Plus wasn't the email sent from a third party and then directed through another third party site? Seems like a dumb reason to claim arrogance, when games all over the place are making you like them on facebook to get "exclusive" things in the game. At least for this you can wait five minutes until it's uploaded on youtube.

NO MMO developer has eliminated server queues before (well ANet did for GW1 but yeah), period. Every single big MMO released in the past 8 years has had queues at launch because not one of those devs did a damn thing to actually eliminate it. Bioware attempted to keep queues down, but hurt the overall initial impression of their game at launch due to their tiny artificial server capacity. They attempted to apply a bandaid to the issue rather than eliminating it entirely.

That just makes Bioware the bunch of useless schmucks that they actually are.

I didn't get this email D:

Does this mean I am lucky?

You're more optimistic than me. I didn't get the email either, and thought that they're just sending out the emails in batches. Except the batch order determines when you get an invite into beta.

Actually, that's still what I think. HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME ANET :'(

Oh jesus.. seeing that email in my inbox... :(

I enjoyed the video although it could have been a tad longer. i really feel for Anet though.. they're trying to be nice and keep the community happy by keeping us up to date with the beta selection process yet they get slammed for 'teasing' and are accused of giving people false hope. Yet, when they don't release anything they get more hate for staying quite.. they can't win.

Ah well, shouldn't be long now. :)

Are people expecting respec costs to take half of your bank per respec? The costs are going to be so minimal that it won't even cross your mind.

It won't cross my mind except when I have to spend that minimal amount dozens of times when I'm trying out builds in the training area. Oh, how fun! Sounds like a great feature for players. We paid real money for this game, so why not do annoying things for the sake of a "fake" economy that the developer can't balance competently otherwise. Where do I sign up to do in-game data entry in between PvP matches to help with their skill balancing?
It's nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.
Until the day you save up all your dough and buy that awesome new armor.

"Yes, this armor rocks!, Maxrpg explained."
"Now it is time to also attack the world with this hammer I just got with nearly my last gold!", he exclaimed with glee.

*Not enough money to respec*
"Well that's OK, I'll go farm gold with my sword build."
*Realizes he sold his sword to buy the hammer.*
"Hey, it is for the economy right", he still with confidence explained.
many months passed...

[Maxrpg is now dancing for coins in Lion's Arch. The money which was supposed to be used for respec is now going towards ale and private gambling. He lost his armor from long ago and his own hammer which he sold was used to rob him. He no longer gives two shits about ANET and their money sinks.]

What a terrible example if it's really rather small amount and if the game is anything like gw1, you'd be up to your ears in money. You can gain millions in that game and and practically never have to spend any of it. you guys are forgetting Weapon skills are FREE (which is half your skill bar) and a lot of the skills can be acquired through questing. It may not be the best idea in the world it's not even a fragment as bad as your making it out to be.

Comparing buying and full set of skills for a new build to a respec fee. Precisely what is the difference? My god the whining.

I got the joke, I also got your previously dislike for the feature. It was a logical 2+2. Your moaning about a feature that's roughly equilavent in cost to the previous games feature and with most mmo's. So I ask why the great dislike?

Refund points were the respec fee in GW1. They were so hated and pointless that ANET removed them completely. It is now back. And it will be as hated and pointless as ever. Why wouldn't I dislike such a stupid part of a game? Is this like peer pressure where if all game developers do something we need to suck it up? The feature is stupid and ITT people have posted plenty of alternative takes which make sense. ANET needs to re-implement a feature they removed in their past game which was labeled a mistake since they apparently have no other avenues to balance their economy. It's almost as hackneyed as cap point single map PvP.

ANET is making great strides but at the same time still doing some bone-head moves. For a game so brought up as apparently revolutionizing or at least evolving MMOs, a bunch of people seem hell bent on not abandoning what they want gone.

Everything should free imo.

No but seriously, that WAS an asshole move. FB for super short video!

I facepalmed as I closed the window... cmon man.

Do they get something apart publicity like money for the Likes that you get on the page?

I think people have just gotten tired of there being nothing to complain about(or even talk about for that matter). "Like you on facebook to see a video?!" "To do something in the game it costs in game currency?!"

I've been "complaining" as you put it about the features I find to be out of sorts since they were brought up. The first big GW2 thread started like 8 months ago. So I really don't think everyone is "complaining" just for the sake of it. If you find illegitimacy with my criticism for example, I'll listen.
