Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

I'm truly unable to understand why so many people still care about this game. Where is the indication that this is going to be anything special after all this time, and not just another Duke Nukem Forever? Were screens/video/gameplay systems shown so far that compelling for this title? Honestly asking here. I mean, you can't tell me it's just the name anymore; the name's been dragged through the mud over the last decade by not only the side titles (the mediocre GC/Wii CC games) but the main ones as well (XIII/2 and XIV).

I was as ardent an FF fanboy as any six years ago, but man, I found it hard to keep caring about this game.

Every single announcement and non-announcement these days feels like such a joke. Like a begging and pleading to continue fostering interest even though development may not have moved forward an inch since the last announcement.

I would hope the average gaffer would get that just because they don't like ff anymore dosent mean everyone dosent like ff.

Here's to hoping.

Tetsuya Nomura says in this week's Famitsu that he's almost ready with preparations for sharing new Final Fantasy Versus XIII info. So does that mean we can expect an update soon?

Apparently not. According to Nomura, certain circumstances, which he describes as "totally unrelated," are preventing him from sharing the info. He also said that he's not allowed to talk about the situation, so all he can do is continue engaging in discussions. Discussions with who? He didn't say.

Mysterious!

WiiU launch title confirmed.~~~~

It looks pretty, at least. DNF didn't even have that. But I think that the gameplay and/or story don't look like anything special at all.

I wonder what's wrong at Square Enix. Why are they so afraid to show off the game? Remember a few months ago when Nomura showed the Famitsu staff a few new images from the game, but wouldn't let them publish them? There's something really bad going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

The footage they showed a year ago (or however long it's been now) looked great, still does. But this is what's becoming stupid as shit at this point, they show something or mention a few new things, the game disappears for another year, another game takes priority over it again, then when that's done Nomura announces that he is ready to make an announcement of the game but then makes another announcement that something else is going on that he can't announce what it is and that that is what is preventing him from making another announcement of an announcement.

I feel sorry for anyone actually looking foward to this game...on second thought, I don't feel sorry for you, you deserve to be disappointed for being this delusional.

Besides, what little "gameplay" they've shown over the years didn't even look all that revolutionary.

FINALLY! Some more "no news" news updates! I was getting worried for a moment that we wouldn't even get that privilege.

Final Fantasy Forever.

I'm here to ATB and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum. FIREAGA OUT YOUR ASS.

Yes. It looked interesting and still kinda does. I am (and still aren't) convinced of the Kingdom Hearts battle system but the environment art and the like made me want to go through it.

I'm not all hot and bothered for it to release, but if it did release I'd look into it given a mild artistic curiosity (and the trailer they released looked DAMN good in that department)

It's beyond ridiculous.

Sigh I really hope this game will be released soon, it's been announced in E3 before the PS3 launch and we are kinda nearing the next gen and the game is still not released yet. It's my currently most anticipated game but I don't like how S-E is taking their own sweet time with this game. Versus XIII's staff goes to help the development process of FFXIII and FFXIII-2....smh -.-

I'm convinced it's one of two things:

1. It's coming to Wii U. Nintendo is totally adamant on saving any and all information regarding the console for E3.

2. It's coming to 720/PS4.

What else could "totally unrelated" mean? He's "not allowed to talk about about the situation"? Sounds like it could be pretty big news. Hopefully we get some answers at E3.

This is so irritating. It's really strikingly awful how S-E has handled this game -- EVERYTHING about it. Too bad...it looks great from the extremely little we've seen of it. If this doesn't come out this year, I don't know how much more I can care. I want to care, but this is, as Kagari said, ridiculous. Re-freakin'-didiculous.

It's only really weird to me because it really seems like this isn't Nomura's choice.

The a,Lunt of time he has gone on record talking about the game, and how he had already set up when it was supposed to show up again only for it not to happen.

Nomura has been very good about how he handles the press in most of his other projects.

We can rule those out because S-E wouldn't put a massive FF game on systems that won't be able to support 5 million+ worldwide sales. They've never done it before and they never will. Makes no business sense.

If it were to become multi-platform (PS3/360) then I don't see why they couldn't hold off announcing that while showing new media.

What the hell does "unrelated to Versus" mean?! :(

Not to mention those two things would be very much related to Versus.

Seriously if he can't share any info then what's the point of teasing us like that? It's very uprofessional in my opinion and he does more damage than good.

It doesn't help that he said these things in the middle of a KH3D interview... so it's not surprising it's really non-news.

why are we anticipating ff versus XIII? If this was a versus VI, VII, or IX, maybe even X, but for XIII?

Not surprised you don't remember it being a seperate game. Announced the same time as FFXIII. Apparently not in development until about a year and a half ago. Fuck this game.

Hype goes up, hype goes down, and Nomura is the one that keeps on propogating this shit-eating cycle. He can't let it die until it's ready, well no, not to mention most had even forgotten its very existence. I know I did. I'm not calling this TLG's bosom buddy, but come on, this probably won't even make it this generation. Or if it will, it'll be another FFXII. While I love that game, way too late.

**THIS WAS JUST RECENTLY IN**

FFVII WILL BE RELEASED BEFORE VERSUS.

Well I doubt it.

They have said that if anyone was going to direct it they wanted it to be Nomura. Frankly after this I don't think he willingly do another main FF even if this turns out great and sold VII like numbers.

Well I already predicted that we wouldn't get Versus info until may, to build momentum into E3, so its not the lack of info that bothers me, I was expecting any.

But this whole, "unrelated to Versus" shit is what gets me. What the hell is so important that they think they can fucking sideline a flagship game?

Wada? WADA!?

You guys, after all this time, why would you expect for substantial news/reveal for VersusXIII to come out so randomly? I'm thinking we'll get info either at the next E3, Tokyo Gameshow, or major SE event. Otherwise, I'm content setting hype for the game on the backburner while I play other stuff.

And for those asking why anyone should look forward to this, 1) Whatever footage we've seen looks fantastic, & 2) Nomura has a pretty damn good track record when it comes to games he's in charge of. Unlike SE's last few efforts with FF, this one actually looks like it's a worthy follow-up to FFVI through FFX with just enough modern changes (not to mention polished presentation) to make it feel like a current-gen FF that's actually good.

Watch the answer be FFXIII-3 and some cellphone and browser based crap FF spin-offs. Oh and maybe some more episodic DLC game/project bullcrap.

Right. Of course it wouldn't be Wii U exclusive. PS3/360/Wii U methinks.

I was half joking with the 720/PS4 comment. At this rate... the game is going to be out during next gen.

Not to mention those two things would be very much related to Versus.

I'm thinking he means "unrelated" to the development of the game itself. The game is developing nicely, and he could show some screens now, but he can't talk about it because... Iwata wants to drop the bomb at E3 ^_^

Platform wouldn't be "totally unrelated." It's probably another game again that S-E wants to release before this.

It's too fucking hot for real life.

Showing it would like, destroy the universe.

Nomura must make it, but it can't be shown.

Square keeps the nonshowing to keep the world together, so classy.

You're right. They'll cease all marketing just so your favourite company can announce it's getting a port of a game that is going to sell 10 times more on another platform. Makes sense.

In reality, the game probably is never coming out and Square doesn't want to take attention away from KH3D or something to bring attention back to potential vaporware.

WiiU launch title confirmed.~~~~

You know... I support this actually, if Nintendo is going back to HD then what better way to have Square make a come back? If you think about it, there's a lot of other companies under heavy embargo for developing for the Wii U, this actually wouldn't surprise me if that was the actually the case.

While Square Enix still did make Crystal Chronicles & other recent titles for the Wii / GC etc, having them bring their core franchises back might spark interest in people. You never know...

Is this made on Crystal Tools?

There are quite a few of those though, aren't there? Depending upon when the Wii-U launches.

I think it's using White Engine with modified additions from Luminious (isn't that the name of their next gen engine?) or at least I could of swore it was.
