Popping in to say a quick hell yeah about the Calvin extension. Looking forward to yelling many "MEGATROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON" blasts at the forums here once the season picks up again.

One thing that may be Lions-GAF can help me out with, though. During he radio today everybody kept making reference to an impending visit from Ted Ginn Jr., but...nobody I heard today seemed to really tackle the issue of why we would bother? Calvin, Nate, and Titus already make up our top 3 receiving corps, along with the tight ends, and unless he walked or got cut and I didn't notice, we still have Stefan Logan as a kick returner. Where would Ginn fit in with the Lions situation at all? Unless our special teams coverage unit somehow improves I don't think he'd be that much of an upgrade over Logan as a return specialist, so it seems like a bit of a pointless move.

No one said anything because nobody knows why. All we can do is trust in Mayhew.

Logan didn't do all that much last year, and even got that personal foul against him. Ginn might come cheaper and be taller, which helps if they want to use him as a fourth receiver.

And I guess all of our extra receivers plus Logan are free agents.

The Lions are looking for a fourth receiver to play behind Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and Titus Young. Detroit had Maurice Stovall, Stefan Logan and Rashied Davis on its roster last season, but management decided to let each player test free agency and are looking in a different direction.

Ah, see that bit I didn't know about. Still, isn't Ginn still a bit too much of a name to want to come onto a team where he'd be the 4th receiver? Perhaps I'm overvaluing what kind of value he's perceived to have.

I've been trying to get a handle on that as well. I think miami traded him on the cheap to SF and he might've taken a pay cut last year?

This sounds much like the deal Jeff Gordon has in NASCAR with Rick Hendrick; Jimmie Johnson turned a similar one down, but Gordon signed one in 1999. Essentially, he's tied to Hendrick forever, including after he stops driving, I think. I'd imagine Bud will offer Peyton a job upon retirement as part of the deal. A nice job. *coughcough*GM*coughcough*

QB coach. Then head coach. Then Commish.

Then, the ascension.

I guess we really are signing Steve Hutchinson.

edit: Barkley is Sanchez v2. Watch his youtube highlights and how he has to jump as he strides during his drops. Too short. Has to work too hard to look good, as they say

Except for that whole being a starter for 4 years thing and Barkley being a better college player and leader than Sanchez in every way.

Dang it Martin Mayhew! Why must you conduct a flurry of activity when I try to sleep!

One left tackle and one cornerback are joining the right tackle and Ginn in visiting.

The Detroit Lions will host former San Diego Chargers left tackle Marcus McNeill and Indianapolis Colts free agent cornerback Jacob Lacey this week.

According to Detroit Lions writer Tim Twentyman, McNeil is flying into Detroit on Thursday and will visit the facility on Friday. Lacey is also expected to visit Detroit's facility in Allen Park this week.

McNeill was released recently by San Diego for failing to pass a physical due to neck injuries and to clear up salary cap space, according to the Associated Press. The Chargers re-signed left tackle Jared Gaither, who played well in McNeil's absence, to a four-year deal late Wednesday evening, which hinders his possible San Diego return.

So chargers fans, what say you on McNeil?

Not disputing his greatness as a college player. I just don't think he'll be a good pro

Colt McCoy has the ability to be a good NFL starter. He needs weapons and support, however. He's smart, athletic, and driven. Give the boy a chance.

Also, the Texans are built for the long haul. I don't see Texans fans should care about the Titans landing Manning; he's there for two years with no legitimate WRs. So what?

kenny britt is legit. i wouldn't call him top 5 but he's a pretty good WR

Brian Cushing? Clay Matthews? Steroids?

edit: Forgot about Britt, FMT. But isn't he in the doghouse/courthouse too often to be relied upon?

edit2: is Keith Rivers any good?

He's done some dumb stuff (Britt), but the only reason he isn't thought of as better is because right as he was lighting up everyone last season, he got injured and was out for the year. Dude could be great.

when was the last time a USC player lived up to the hype and was a productive NFL player? and don't say ray mauluga or whoever that guy is from the bengals!

I would say Jeff Backus needs to start worrying.

Thank you baby Tebow

Bud Adams has a habit of wanting players despite the feelings of his football people.

He's 89, kinda senile and probably, really wants to win a SB before he buys the farm.

I just don't understand the Titans going for Manning unless they really think Locker is a bust.

Bud Adams is a crazy old man who wants Peyton Manning. And publicly stated that if his football people didn't land Peyton Manning, he'd be upset.

It's an owner going over his football people's head. He's promised Peyton whatever role he wants when he retires, and supposedly a path to ownership.

I love McNeill. He's a beast when he's on his game, Pro Bowl caliber even. The big concern with him is his neck issues. He's missed a bunch of games because of it the past 2 seasons. He had surgery in December I believe and has been working out since January. Says he feels 100% though. Definitely a risky sign, but if he's healthy, he's good. I think he'd still be in San Diego if he didn't have such a huge contract.

So Giants signed re-signed CBs Terrell Thomas, Michael Coe and Justin Tryon as well as inking Martellus Bennett? Me likey.

I really think Bennett is legit, now Giants don't have to worry about getting a TE early in the draft.

Apparently Browns may stick with McCoy. They seem to like him. They probably won't even draft Tannehill.

They like him so much that they offered nearly what the Redskins did (or better if you really look at it) for RG3. Not buying that.

That said, now that we're out of the RG3 running, I'm all for giving Colt a few more weapons and seeing what happens rather than draft a Tannehill or Weeden. If it doesnt work out we can Bark for Barkley.

Prepare yourselves for Tannehill. He'll sit for a year while Colt, or maybe Hassellbeck if Manning goes to Indy, holds the fort. Use that other #1 on a WR

I'm really not feeling Tannehill. Especially not at 4. With our #4 I'm torn between Blackmon and Claiborne. We NEED a playmaker but I think Blackmon will be only a tier 2 kinda guy. Definitely not a Megatron kind of impact player. While I think he'll be pretty good, I'm not sure he's worthy of a 4 pick.

With Claiborne matched with Joe Haden, we have a pretty damn good secondary in a pass happy league. The thing is, I think the dropoff from Claiborne to a CB we could likely get at #22 or #37 is MUCH greater than the difference between Blackmon and a WR who might be there at 22 or 37.

Then I guess theres plan C: Trent Richardson. I like him too but I'm against drafting RBs so high. I'd much rather this rumored deal with the Texans work out for Ben Tate. But we need to do something because right now with Hillis gone we have Brandon Jackson, Chris OGBONNAYA and Armond Smith at RB.

Right now, I'd like to go

#4 - Claiborne
#22 - Kendall Wright
#37 - David Wilson / Mike Adams / Rueben Randle /

I posted this earlier, but I had a feeling with the neglect of the WR position, that Fisher wasn't that high on Bradford. This Tebow thing makes it clear. They are trying to make it easy to dump him. Or the owner is just an attention whore. Sucks to suck

Bennett is far from legit. I look forward to reading your rage of "Marty B" next season.

I shall be cautiously optimistic and not let my body be taken by the hype train.

If Bud Adams has truly offered Manning a piece of the Titans in order to get him to sign, then I hope the league does a thorough investigation.

I am sure the league would love for Peyton to go to the Titans. I really doubt there will be any investigation if there is a side deal to make it happen.

It's like my Tebow jersey and I were a fling on vacation.

The handlebar 'stache, diamond earrings, and striped sailor hoodie isn't doing much for my hetero street credentials.

But all I want to do is dance and do coke.

It's the weirdest thing.

There's rumors that Jeremy Shockey wants to return to the Giants, so much so that he would be willing to take the veteran minimum for salary. What does Amani Toomer have to say on the possibility of a Shockey return?

Amani Toomer ‏ @AmaniAToomer
No!! Shockey: "I will never play 4 you again!" he yelled at jerry Reese in 08. Let him keep his word. Bad teammate, worse person.

Strong words. I don't see it happening, for a variety of reasons. Chief among them is that Eli and Coughlin likely don't want him back.
