Eddie Royal in San Diego and just took his physical. Good news if he signs.

hopefully he can play somewhere between his '10 production ('08 stats are a huge reach)...but i'd be happy if he could get 40 catches and make sure richard goodman does not touch the ball.

edit: forgot goodman was a fa

btw, notice how defensive Holmgren and Heckert were at the PC? They feel the heat. Have to get a QB of the future in this draft. Becoming a distant 4th in that division

Outside of Luck and RGIII I dont see anyone that you could say is an upgrade of Colt. They should grab all the skill position guys they can and pray that Colt takes a step forward this year. Picking a QB just to pick a QB isnt going to do them any favors going forward.

He inherited a shit roster, it takes time.

This is year 3. That's all you get now. They must improve this year, and have a clear plan for future. Colt McCoy or Matt Hasselbeck is not a plan

They gave away a high pick last year to acquire assets. What better way to use those assets than acquire a stud QB? Holmgren misplayed his hand in RG3 negotiations and this is where he is. At a press conference crying to the press about how Fisher and Shanny had the fix in, and that they really think McCoy has good upside

@yankeehater I think Tannehill can be a good QB. But he needs time to develop. Ideally he'll sit for a year behind Hassellbeck. Not much sense hanging on to McCoy imo

Word, can't expect a turnaround that quickly, 3rd draft isn't even completed yet. 3 picks in the top 40.

D is coming along with Haden, Sheard, Taylor flashed, Jackson.

I was more interested in your Fitz take. The guy is a poor decision maker who seems to get pretty easily frustrated. I don't like him at all. He can make throws, but he can't read a defense in real time.

I think he can, but he forces it. Has this attitude "I'm going to let my receiver make a play, so here's this shit ball, go get it." Or he'll squeeze a throw into tight coverage and hope for the best. Rushes through the reads too, the ball has to be out now so I'm throwing it regardless. Did that a lot during the losing streak, just rushing throws. Knew he didn't have time with a G playing LT, probably didn't want to get hit in the ribs either.

We'll see, he doesn't have many weapons at receiver, lots of possession guys.

Edit: Don't think he's terrible, don't think he's great, just average.

I've watched Flynn play in two games, Pats/Lions, he destroyed both, especially the Lions. Fitz has carved some good defenses, and some bad ones. I can't make a call based on two games.

Fitz needs to hit the fade, that's his issue, doesn't hit it consistently. I also don't think he's a game managers, Fitz will take risk, he's going to sink/swim by throwing.

Stop gap, not a long term solution, his contract isn't that prohibitive. Roll the dice again, see what happens. Get a QB via the draft.

Too soon for there to be any real heat on Holmgren or Shurmur. Give them a few more years before calling for the axe.

Is Manning really going to end up a Titan guys? That's the last place I expected him to go of the 4-5 teams that were reportedly talking to him.

Also, how come we haven't signed Smith yet? Are we going to roll with CK as our starting QB this year?

Everyone knows that Alex is going to be the 49ers QB next year.

I think they've already got a contract offer on the table, they're probably just waiting to see what happens with Flynn's contract (to finalize the terms for Smith's contract). However, Flynn isn't going to do anything in Manning signs.

Also, Tom Condon is both Manning and Smith's agent. I wouldn't be surprised if he's push Alex's contract to the side to focus on Manning's (especially since nobody has Alex on their radar).

So basically Payton's fucking it up for everyone. Hurry up and pick a team dammit.

Manning really is fucking over everyone. Just pick a damn team already! He's killed our chance at getting a quality WR in FA. Us Peyton contention teams can't do shit until he makes a decision. Sigh.

It's year 3 for Holgrem. There are no 5 year plans anymore. He doesn't have to win his division. Or make the playoffs. But he has to demonstrate improvement. If they go 4-12 this year, he'll be sweating the offseason

edit: If you guys didn't notice during SB week, where he did everything he could to keep the spotlight on himself and not his brother, or the great job the city was doing; Peyton is an attention whore. Loves the spotlight. This is what he does. Teams that get left at the altar have only themselves to blame

Let it go squall. We have another .100 season on our hands. Defense will raise that.

It's pretty shitty that he is holding teams hostage, but Bud Adams dropped an absolute bombshell on him. I would be taken back by an offer like that as well. He will basically be (even more) set for life.

damn, I like him, never been sure how good he is but he gets to the ball and has a nice attitude. Would have liked Dallas to get him.
He'll compete with Tyler Sash and possibly Chad Jones for a reserve safety roster spot since the Giants likely aren't going to bring back Deon Grant.

As long as they don't completely bomb on all of their picks in the draft, they have some young talent to be around 6-10 this year.

So the Rams are signing Steve Smith? We already have slow WRs with injury histories that can't get open. All the good ones are gone. Why panic and make things worse?

If he's healthy, that's a really short sighted description of Steve Smith. If he's worked his way back to some semblance of health (and it's obvious he was rushed back and wasn't entirely healthy last season), then you could sign a guy who can be a top quality slot receiver at a minimum price. Which is what you're going to sign him for.

Low risk signing for minimum dollars with plenty of upside. Again. if he's healthy. If he's not and you signed him for small money than what do you care?

Oh gosh I'm a hype train addict. Need more lions news. But middle linebacker news from everyone except Tulloch and Lofton will entertain me for now...

Insert Mark Clayton and it's the exact same post

Dear Detroit Lions:

You won't make it out of the first round of the playoffs with that same secondary.

Hey now, we were .500 last season. I think we can get another win or two with the same pieces in place. Between D getting better, getting a few players back from injury, productive rookies like Acho and Peterson improving, and who ever we get from FA and the draft. It's just going to blow if Peyton goes elsewhere and we could have used that money to get a solid #2 WR, throw money at one of the tackles, etc. I'm still hoping we get Bell. My god all of Cardinal Fandom will rage so hard if we just resign Brown at LT and sadly, that's a real possibility.

Fucking Fisher and Shanahan. According to Holmgren the Browns offer was the same as the Skins but St. Louis went with Washington because of front office relationship. He actually sounded kind of pissed about it.

Where did you hear this from? I just loaded up the press conference on NFL.com, so if it's on there, I apologize.

That isn't "fine;" after year three anything below 8-8 should be considered a colossal failure.
I thought he's done all right considering the roster he picked up, and the hellacious division they play in. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson were the QB's when he stepped in. Think about that for a moment.

If he has another good draft, it's gotta pay off sooner or later. They do need some more skilled players at QB/WR, for sure. Cribbs, Little, and no one else.

With the three linemen scheduled to visit I'd guess the Lions are going after a corner in the draft. Then again the Lions have at least one or two corners scheduled to visit.

Considering the money the Rams are likely to commit to Smith (vet minimum), it's still a low risk signing. Don't see the downside.

I guess I should have indicated that I'm afraid they will pay him a decent amount. Above market value. Why else would he come to STL? He can go to better places and make minimum

I think he has a better shot in SD since he doesn't have Tebow for a QB.

lol fucking jarret johnson

what a bitch.

LOL. I like the guy already. Our D needs some attitude like this.

Well, you said it yourself. Not much of a market for injured WR who did little to nothing last season. I don't think the Rams will overpay...

I don't hold too much animosity for Smith. I hope he succeeds with the Rams. When he's healthy, he's about as good a slot/possession guy as you can find out there. If it hadn't been for the emergence of Cruz (amazing slot receiver with far better big play potential), I might be more apt to the Giants trying to get him back.

Are you people crazy? Throw Holmgren out after 3 seasons?

So basically just continue the same cycle that Browns have had for the last 10 years, yup sounds like a winning strategy.

They're going to stick with him and see where he takes this team. It's going to be a very long process with how shit the Browns are in a very highly skilled AFC North.

They had a pretty good draft last year, and hopefully they can continue it again this year.
