Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

Kagari is cursed though. Every FF OT she does, the game turns out to be bad. Kagari, don't curse Versus too! :(

Mixed feelings on that one from those who played it.
Versus OT has been booked by duckroll, if I remember correctly.

...Although I've heard "duckroll hype" can turn into hot air too.

Actually of the 10% that didn't like it so much most of them were ones who enjoyed XIII more than others.

I disliked XIII quite a bit, but am having a surprising amount of fun with XIII-2. I'm at Academia 400 AF; what a beautiful city
(well, it should be once I get rid of these Cieth that are all over the place)
. Hopefully the fun gameplay will continue.

That's probably 'cause its filled with 90% of posters who, somehow, genuinely enjoyed XIII

Like Kagari already said, many XIII-2's players didn't enjoy XIII but liked the new one. And many others, like me, prefers XIII over the sequel :D

good god if this not at E3 they may as well just bin it, had anyone been working on it is it just one guy or something how can it take this long for someone as big as SE?

I think its "too far ahead" to bin. Its basically in that precarious situation its near being complete to completely scrap and lose 75% of work plus years of money. I doubt this game will ever recoup on its budget, but I just hope its an amazing game.

I would hope that a large company could identify a sunk cost when it occurs. (assuming that is the budgetary situation)

Maybe the logic to their business practices simply elude me, but I can't see the benefit of such an extended development cycle (esp. after announcing it to the public!). Not sure if it's intentional or due to incompetent management, but either way it kills "hype" and, by extension, the marketability of the game.

I'm certainly not a huge fan of SE's recent offerings, but it's kind of sad to see a developer that you grew up with run itself into the ground (at least from my gaming perspective). So many amazing experiences in earlier generations. But perhaps that's just nostalgia talking.

I just don't get the despair. I mean its not like SE havent pushed out a load of FF games in the last few years, including one within the last couple of months!

I wasn't happy with XIII and XIV, didn't even bother with XIII-2. This is the only FF game I want.

Amazing music, setting, characters, a vast world to explore with old school style FF elements, a modern FF & most importantly it looks like it'll have an AMAZING story... I'm sure there's a LOT more that we don't even know about yet either.

I don't either. All the main FFs since 8 have been good. Well maybe not XIV. I'm more cautious of Versus because pretty much every thing directed by Nomura has been pretty.....well not eaxctly good.

forgot how good this looks :|
want more nao

To me a world map is the generic set of fields that connect all the game's locales. It can either be seamless (DQ8) or broken up into zones (FFXII).

yeah
and even DQ8 has some zones, irrc
i think Versus will have some too
i'd imagine it'll be something akin to XIV
but hopefully with less rubber stamping locales

I think they complement each other well. While I'm indifferent to both games--I think they're rather average--one game had what the other lacked, imo. Combine the both of them, and you might have a nice package.

...To be honest, while discussing this with someone else, I ended up looking at FFXIII in a slightly more positive light after playing FFXIII-2 due to FFXIII's late-postgame difficulty during a plat run (which ended up being rather fun in the end since the harder battles took advantage of CSB; edit: killing turtles repeatedly is never fun, though) and FFXIII-2's... lack of difficulty in many areas.

You're busy reading all the signage, aren't you? ;P

Of course, and I'd be having a much easier time of it if hiedous Cie'th weren't coming out of nowhere and lunging at me just as I'm figuring out that I'm standing in front or RATIGAN AVIONICS or that the walkway I'm on is an EMERGENCY EXIT.

This is why Caius must be stopped.

6 years for that? Looks like Square never really learned their lesson from TSW. Nice CG graphics but it really won't matter in the end.

6 year means a LOT stuff....

According to Type-0 artbook, apparently the game had gone through several rounds of re-work..The final product is like more than 80% different from what they planed in 2006. Beside 4 countries and the name of the word, they pretty much changed everything. And I think originally the game was more like a mainline FF game which I prefer more. It seems they CAN easily make another game from the resources left out from the final game.

Same could happen or must have happened to Versus.

I just wish this game was turned based, with a mix of Grandia, Xenogears and some QTEs blended in but with the same movement range showed in the videos but tied to an AP system. I guess I'll have to judge the entire battle system when the game is actually released. It can't be worse than FFXII and XIIIs combat, can it?
