Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

Hudson said they took out the TIM boss battle because it was "too video game-y"

I actually agree that TIM shouldn't have been a boss, but there should have been SOMETHING. The ending is seriously lacking a boss (and the closed arena with infinitely spawning banshees was awfully braindead)

Who said it had to be TIM? A boss at all would have been nice.

Marauder Shields was the best boss in the series.

I am not saying Casey was wrong to cut the TIM boss fight. I just don't like the way he used the term "video game-y". I also think it is pretty inexcusable that there is no major confrontation before the end other than a good old chin wag with TIM.

MARAUDER.

FUCKING.

SHIELDS.

Why you disrespecting the man?

Ok, few initial impressions post-game:

- I missed my ME2 comrades. ME2 had the weakest story of the three games, but luckily it had a great supporting cast who made the game come to life. I used to look forward to opening up new conversation options with my crew in ME2 to find out more about them, in this game I treated it as more of a chore. I was absolutely gutted that Mordin, Legion and Thane all kicked the bucket in my ME3 run-through. But hey, we had Vega and Ashley to provide scintillating conversation partners.... :/
- The story had a lot more focus to it this time around, this felt like a proper continuation of the story that started back in ME1, as opposed to the sidetrack that ME2 provided. I always felt that ME2 should've been a shameless rip-off of The Empire Strikes Back; you are constantly falling back, but gathering your forces ready for ME3. Instead the consolidation and endgame came in this chapter. Bit too rushed for my liking.
- I have to hand it to Bioware that they really hammered home about how the shit had really hit the fan. Seeing the Citadel after the Cerberus attack, Earth and Thessia burning... damn.
- I had great fun 'Renegading' Udina. Ditto Kai Leng. "That's for Thane, you son of a bitch". I had a little 'Hell Yeah' moment at that part. You shouldn't get Renegade points for that, just a pair of sunglasses to put on and exit scene animation.
- Mordin sacrificing himself whilst humming away (oh, also his "may perform experiments on seashells" line made me lol), Grunt coming up dripping in blood, Thane interrupting Kai Leng, all badass moments.
- Saying my final goodbyes to everyone was a touching moment. And a nice way to wrap things up before the endgame. Part of me was hoping for a "Wrex...Shpeherd...Wrex" moment, but you can't have it all.

All in all, for about 97% of the game it was a fabulous experience and a worthy end to the Cmdr Shepherd story. The rushed beginning and the "WTF" ending just stopped it short of reaching greatness.

I had completely avoided all ME3 news in the past month, all i've really seen recently is a headline saying fans were petitioning for a new ending to ME3. I was hoping it was just a bunch of fans over-reacting to something minor but fuck me.... first we get Ghost-Kid, then the most bizarre set of choices they could possibly offer.

When amateur writers think they are being clever, they should step back and repeat to themselves "Keep it simple, stupid".

and if I really want to be pedantic about it, how the fuck did Joker survive the Normandy being thrown out of FTL speeds, then crash landing on a planet? I mean, what are we to believe, that Joker was magically cured of Vrolik's Syndrome or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Did the Keepers get explained at all? They were a race I always found interesting and the game seemed to build some mystique around them. I don't recall hearing much of anything about them in ME3 though.

They were pretty much what their name says - keepers of the Citadel who did nothing but maintain it for the Reapers I guess. They were still busy working even at the end. :lol No doubt indoctrinated of course to maintain this 'robotic' nature and complete quietness.

This is why ME3 sucks. Not *just* the ending.

If I was actually expecting a sequel to ME1, I would feel this way as well because that was how I felt after ME2.
The way I look at the series from a gameplay perspective, ME1 is its own game, ME2 is a game that continues the story and takes place in the same world, and ME3 is the sequel to ME2.
For me, ME1 does not have a true sequel.

Anyways, besides the lack of hubs, the disappointed of the citadel (no wards for instance, it felt really small since there was just one elevator, making it seem you are in just a really small portion of the presidium, let alone the entire citadel), lack of vehicles, etc. I am pretty sure I still enjoyed ME3 simply because of the fact that I couldn't stop playing even when my xbox started making strange noises.

With all due respect to the great Marauder Shields whilst I appreciated his valiant and noble efforts to protect my Shepard from the much face palming that was about to happen I feel he should have invested in some N7 armour to at least make being a "boss fight" a bit more of a challenge. However 10 out of 10 for effort to Mr Shields which is hell of a lot more than I would rate Bioware :p

Apparently
Mass effect wikia said:
they may have been engineered by the same race that created the reapers

So we know nothing much about them

What is this Marauder Shields meme? Somehow I missed that one.

The Marauder at the end who tries to stop Shepard from going in.

I have a confession to make, he actually killed me the first time, I wasn't really paying attention and I just kind of spammed the trigger.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me once, shame on me.

:(

The ending was so bad people didn't bother to mention other flaws in the plot.

One, Miranda's father was poorly handled. He was just disappointing after hearing so much for so long. I was half expecting the John Hudson character from Chinatown (1974) show up. I was expecting Miranda blad out
my sister... my daughtor...my sister... my clone
during the confronation. And his dead was not satisfying.

And then TIM's death IMO was poorly done. I think his end doesn't fit his character arc. He is the greedy human who try to control fire. He should be killed by his own creature. Making a human Reaper or taking over an existing reaper and then getting killed by it would be a more fitting end for TIM.

Can't believe I died to him on the first attempt. If only I had known what he was protecting me from. God speed poor soul.
I can see it in comice form now
Panel 1:(before me3 ending)
*Shepard limping to beam of light*
Marauder Shields: You shall not pass

Panel 2: Shepard kills marauder shields

Panel 3:(after beating me3)
Marauder Shield: You shall not pass

Panel 4:
Sheapard: I understand. (with okay face)

:(

Don't feel bad. He killed me 2 or 3 times before I carefully paced my shots to make sure each one hit.

Marauder Shields killed me, too. Little did I realize that he was just trying to save me from the shitty ending.

You could also do a 3-4 panel version along the same lines, but have it about Shepard coming back out.

Panel 1: Marauder Shields warning Shepard that he doesn't want to see what's up there and he'll die trying to stop him.

Panel 2: Shepard mortally wounding him and going inside anyway.

Panel 3: Take a beat.

Panel 4: Shepard comes back out of the beam, oh god what I have done, I should have listened, why didn't I listen. Something like that.

LumpOfCole, get on this

Even if it's just concept art or promotional, I'm curious who's standing next to Shepard. Garrus, Liara, and Kaiden are in the back right? The one next to Shepard doesn't look like a human head so it can't be Vega.

Pretty sure that's Anderson, whose cap-wearing head is blocked by lens glare.

Edit: Apparently it's just from the trailer. Nothing special

Already knew that. Though it was quite hilarious that they basically said 'it's all about the journey, not the twist' and then Marauder Shields fails to protect you from the twist.

Harbinger flying away was a clear troll on his end. "I know this will hurt you Shepard, lol".

For some reason Skies of Arcadia came to mind and how you have periodic sky battles using people's skills and upgrades that you've picked up while exploring to fight pirates or a flying boss. Might have worked in ME3 if they incorporated something like that in a basic manner through the game to get used to the system, then in a strategy-fashion end-battle you choose which of these assets and allies that you've so diligently united will work best in a space and/or ground battle against Harbinger or other reapers. Some assets better for offensive ground action, others for defensive space battle actions, and everything in between. The more and higher quality allies and upgrades, the more efficient the end-battle.

Could have been epic...if executed well...

How can I contact the Mass Deflect Tumblr? I have a couple of things to add. Two podcasts have discussed the ending today:

Mine Moofpack.com

Weekend Confirmed
I'm sitting here skimming through the weekend confirmed podcast, and just like every other game journalist, they are fabricating the complaints of the gamer's. At this point this type of false deflection has to be intentional. It's almost sickening how they just gloss over the situation like "oh those silly gamer's wanting the end to be just perfect". At least know what's being argued before you criticize a fairly large group of disgruntled fans.
