its not like he was in a situation to compete for a starting spot these past few years..... he got a raw deal when he was with the Titans, just so Alex Smi...er Vince Young didn't have to look over his shoulder...and got traded to the Chargers.... meh, every preseason game i've seen from him, he still has an arm and completes passes.

I love Volek. He gave me a football at one of the Chargers game in 2006 and I still remember that day. However, I don't know if he is a viable starting QB in this league. He's a great backup, but not a guy that can take you to where you want to go.

If I had a future that included another season of Alex Smith, I'd be all wrapped up in the Peyton saga too. 49ers get a real QB and they are the top contenders along with GB next year

uh, we were "top contenders" last year with alex smith. even if he comes back i expect us to be at or near the top of the conference.

Alex Smith did alright but with a actual great QB they will be an even better team. The defense made them really well they just need the offensive.

Some lucky team will get to draft Landry Jones, but it won't be the Rams. On the Alex front, if he's so awesome, why hasn't any team tried to sign him? I mean he beat Drew Brees in the playoffs and, like you said, had you at the top of the conference.
