Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

Break NDA's!!!! If I can't get in, no one should!

I really just think the NDA is dumb...

I don't think so. Not with the generalization going around these days.

I'm perfectly fine not being in the beta. I've noticed a trend with many of the betas I've played over the last year - if I play the beta, I seem to loose interest in the retail product 1-2 months into release. This has been true with a lot of them so far(Aion, AoC, WAR, SWTOR, Cataclysm and others).

I'm hoping by not playing Diablo 3 and GW2, that it will feel more fresh come launch. I also have lots of personal shit to settle before I would ever have meaningful time to invest. I'm looking forward to the product, come launch.

What I am not looking forward to is the official forum community that will engulf the game. I fear that it will be worse than battle.net and WoW general forums. It's relevant how good or bad GW2 will be. The hatred will be concentrated in the forum, and then later in the game. At best case, copy pasted memes, reddit humor and chuck norris jokes, and discussions comparing everything to WoW... worst case scenario... too gruesome to imagine.

I don't know why ArenaNet wants to take it on themselves to police the angry hordes. The hype is already at levels that many people will be disappointed. The lack of monthly fee and character investment contra a sub based MMO, will also make the troll/flaming sentiment much more bearable I think.
And then there is the GW1 rose-tinted purists, that will be going grass-was-greener on the other side. And then you will have a third group of haters, of people who want to make it more traditional-raid-ish.

When will NDA be lifted? I would like to hear what the guys from here think about the game, instead of random jurnos.

I hope they announce when all invitations have been sent so that I don't keep refreshing my email constantly!

They said there's no NDA on the pre-purchase betas. The press beta that happens next weekend will have their embargo drop that Monday. As for this public beta, the NDA will probably never drop and you'll have to wait until after the first public pre-purchase beta in late April to talk about it.

everyone else in this thread said:
I got an invite!

Obviously, ArenaNet, the only way to make up for this massive breach of NDA is to kick them all out and invite me. I'll do a stellar job of pretending I haven't got an invite, like Jira and RepairmanJack have so far.

Haha, I wish.

Though we should try to all post some things we would like to know. That way people don't have to break their NDA's and ask and we could actually get some insight on some things some may not think of.

One of the things I would really like to see is some of the different skills you get with steal as a Thief.

I'm just hoping that I get into the beta, I've been playing Guild Wars 1 since launch, absolutely loved the game and so far I've had no luck into getting into the beta so far and neither has my brother who had to register on his low-specced laptop because he had to reinstall Windows at the time and didn't make it in time for the Beta sign up period. However, he signed up in German (he's fluent) and from Canada so he might stand more of a chance.

So... are people receiving emails just now, or have they been there since yesterday, and they only bothered to check now? If you guys are willing to obviously hint at the fact that you got an invite, surely you could give us this much info?

Pretty sure someone mentioned that they were sent out earlier this morning in the US, though I'm not sure if they're still going out this second.

I think the safest course of action would be to wait it out for a few days, check your email in the morning/evening to see how you went, and if no email came your way then at least you are certified to get in to beta if you prepurchase it in early April.

TheGameStation podcast was just discussing next weekend's press beta. TB and the Yogscast and all of them will be back filming it again. Nobody was sure if this is the same beta that those who signed up are being invited to, or if that's going to be the week after.
I'd like to think they're going to happen at the same time, since in the live interview GameBreaker did with the devs, they talked about how the previous beta weekend required their constant attention and many work hours. I doubt they would do that two weekends in a row.

The GW2G forums has also gathered some information on a high level Sylvari dungeon that was featured in the new PC Gamer. Details can be found here:

I hope TB actually gets to play and finally puts out some more videos.

He said he may or may not be in. Which means he's in. He'll definitely put out more videos this time. He missed his chance last time, and probably didn't release much because it ended up being duplicate content. I'm sure he won't let that happen again.

So i have been thinking....maybe i should go on a media blackout for this game, but at the same time i want to see everything. Damn i dont know what to do anymore

Nothing yet for me. Either way im fine with not getting in, as long as we see some nice new info heading out our way soon by those who did.

Enjoy all! :D

If you're already up to date on everything we know so far, it's too late to turn back. Plus, I don't think you can apply a media blackout to an MMO as you would for most other games. Nobody's going to spoil to story or the scenery or the bosses because nobody is going to get very far into it during the beta weekends. I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's far more important to be familiar with the game's systems and mechanics upon release so you know exactly what you're getting into and can commit to the time investment you intend to put in.

Lol its like a cult....its too late you are right i am in too deep!

Well i wish i can have a media blackout lol

I'd rather not be completely in the know about all the systems. The game doesn't have a monthly fee you can take the time to learn everything.

Take this image with a grain of salt, as well as the following text:

"I saw it on Guru. Rumor from those retards is that you buy gems for cash, then use gems to buy cash shop items. The cool part being that you can trade the gems to other players for game gold. I'm very much okay with this system if it is true."

The bolded part is what I've expected all along, the underlined part is something I'd like to see.

Yeah, being able to use cash shop items by buying gems off of other players would be really awesome.

Well, if Anet intended to send out more invites at the same time today as they did yesterday, it would have already happened. Nobody seems to have gotten anything. /:
Random selection was the worst way they could have handled this and I wish they could have just opened up pre-purchasing a few weeks earlier to get us into this one too.

Oh wait, someone on /vg/ said they just got theirs right now. Might just be someone lying to get our hopes up though.

I've been stalking that thread in hopes someone will post those PC Gamer scans.

Yeah... I'm just getting the standard digital edition. My living space is fairly small, I don't have room for statues and those kinds of things. The book by itself would be really nice though.
