Not worth it in the 1st, more of a project like Kaepernick.

Not even in the same ballpark.

LOLOLOL

Edit: he's got a better chance at being the next Aaron Rodgers than A.Smith. Better than any first round qb taken last year not named Newton, and he's flashed better upside than Dalton, and I was a fan of Dalton.

Is there a worse year in Sports than the rollercoaster Dolphins fans are riding?

  • They start terribly, Suck for Luck Campaign begins
  • Matt Moore comes alive Frampton style and helps you guys out of the dumpster and into "we aren't getting a good pick" land
  • You start off as a frontrunner for Manning, fuck that up
  • Miss the RG3 and Matt Flynn trains
  • Now you get Alex Smith, Ryan Tannehill or Grandpa Weeden

We also whiffed on getting Jeff Fisher. All we needed to do was throw Ireland under the bus.

Tannehil= Alex Smith 2.0

3/5/12: Tannehill is working his way back from a foot injury and couldn't work out at the Combine. However, he has his hand measure, and the number was alarmingly small. Tannehill's small hand size could lead to a lot of fumbles in the NFL. He is getting pushed higher into the first round because of the demand at the position. -Walter football

His specialty is college was momentum killing INTs in big games. Though there were persistent criticisms that the Aggies had very poor conditioning as a team, and always faded

Your thorough analysis has convinced me. I'm not comparing them directly just saying they are both raw and projects. Tannehill is better but still a project that I would not reach for in the first.

Honestly what analysis did you provide?

What's the point anyway?

Edit Τhere's nothing I can write or say that will change your mind.

One league source told CSN Bay Area that Alex Smith has no one to blame but himself for the precarious situation in which he he now finds himself as an unrestricted free agent.
Smith is said to be "upset" with both the 49ers' organization and his agents, despite the fact that he declined to sign a more-than-reasonable $24 million contract offer last week. "It was in Smith's best interest to sign that deal a week, 10 days ago," the source said. The source also confirmed that Smith is unlikely to get that kind of offer from the Dolphins or Seahawks.

Smith needs to beg the Dolphins to match 80% of what the Niners are offering and thank God if they do.

One interesting point on Flynn...wonder why Philbin didn't push harder to get him?

I'm becoming more convinced now that we wont take Tannehill (before #22).

No matter who the QB is we need a RB, WR and RT. They released two senior members of the OL. We currently have no one who can play RT so they must be looking to draft one. Mike Adams or Cordy Glenn would fit the bill.

McCoy was decent when he had a good ground game alongside him. I think they'll give him weapons this year and if he fails they'll pick up a QB next year (with 4 QBs currently projected to go Round 1 who will have the "weapons" picked this year to utilise.

We can't fix it all in one year. No point reaching for a QB like Tannehill who has so many unknowns about him It's not in Heckert's DNA..

I could not disagree with this more. Tannehill was awful anytime he actually played against a decent defense. He padded his stats against shit teams. Also, showing "flashes" doesn't mean anything. I would much rather have a QB who was consistently good at the college level, even against quality defenses, like Dalton.

There are only like 10 quality defenses in college in any given year.

It doesn't take big hands to let things slip through your fingers.
Wasn't it a done deal with some details needing to be changed (guarentees and injury clauses probably?). I'm not taking that 24 million at face value, you shouldn't take any modern NFL contract at that value.

Basically, I call bullshit.

Shame on the 49ers for shit talking Smith.

Pretty sure if Weeden is available at 25, which is getting more likely as we go, Denver will take him. I think Elway likes him. I'd rather use the pick elsewhere. Even so I'm pretty sure the first or second pick is going to a QB.

Ross and Ireland are the most inept guys in the NFL. Flynn's deal with Seattle isn't bad at all. I cannot believe that Miami wouldn't offer him that much.

Now they're stuck with Smallhands, who screams 'letdown from last season', a broken Garrard, or Ryan fucking Tannehill.

Wow.

This. fuck this front office.

That guy is a moran.

Every QB since Hasslebald has been garbo.

Time for nap. Night night
I could be wrong, but it sounds like it could be Pete just hammering out his motto of constant competition at every position. Maybe he doesn't wanna diss TJack.

Also Flynn's gf is a former Miss Louisiana or something. I approve.

Seahawks got a steal (or Arizona is inept, either way):

The base value of Matt Flynn's three-year contract in Seattle is only $19 million, with $10 million guaranteed.
The initial Flynn report claimed he received a three-year, $26 million deal. Per the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel, however, Flynn's base contract is just $19 million with $5 million more available through incentives. It appears the remaining $2 million could be had via "unlikely to be earned" incentives. Either way, it's a much more team-friendly deal than the Cardinals gave Kevin Kolb last offseason. Even if the full "guarantee" is only $2 million less. If both Flynn and Kolb emerged as viable starting quarterbacks, the Seahawks would be paying Flynn much less than the Cardinals would for Kolb.

Neither did Griffin.

In fact let's look at the TCU game, a well coached defense by all accounts. What did Griffin do in that game?

Baylor sat in trips and ran the following: wr screen to front side, front side wr screen with a deep fade - pump fake screen and throw fade, an actual wr pass to deep fade off a wr screen look, backside slant, front side slant, and the infamous wr pass back to the QB. All of these plays had one thing in common, wr screen.

These defenses can be picked apart if you give them a scheme they haven't seen on film. Like the Huskies fan said, most defenses are shit, some are better coached but don't have the athletes.

We'll see, a year or two from now you can all call me an idiot, but I've seen at least 8 games and I'm pretty confident that he'll have success in this league.

Deja vu again, the NFC West gets another promising backup QB. I think Flynn is more system than talent, but I'm curious to see how he works, and if he does so better than Kolb has.

Though I guess that wouldn't be saying much.

If the Niners do indeed sign Peyton, and what with all those draft picks the Rams have now, I wonder how the NFC West would be perceived next season...

While reading it seemed he had good 2009 and 2010 seasons, but no mention of last year. Seahawks fans, where'd he go last year? If he's going to do as good a job and on the cheap, I'm all for it.

He had knee injuries and played not at full speed for the season. Still a solid dude though.

edit: Should note even with the injuries he still led the team in tackles and played well at MLB, just not as well as previous years.

Rams are going to suck again next year. They had an awful offense last year and have only shuffled the mediocrity around on the OL. No reason to think they'll magically start scoring points

He definitely has the tools to be successful, and he did flash. Not NFL ready, though. He's the perfect example of a player I can see a bad organization rushing on to the field, as screwing up his development.

Not sure what all the bitching's about. Flynn got a good deal for sure, and he was smart to cash in while Smith/Manning were still out there and not after they signed... And if Small Hands does end up in in Miami, that's not so bad. He's a clear upgrade over Moore (unlike Flynn) at the very least. Just need to see what kind of money he'll get now.

I mean, really? Y'all gonna lose your shit now because you didn't sign Matt Flynn? :jnc

Well then, since Flynn's gone our only choice now is Small hands and Garrard?

Whelp, we lost this offseason. Good job Ross and Ireland, you really fucked up our season. Now our only hope is to trade up and snatch Tannehill and hope to god he becomes a franchise QB. This shit's depressing man :(

There's always Matt Leinart.

It's all part of the plan! You guys are Sparkley for Barkley! Suck harder than the Browns and he is all yours.

Honestly anything that isn't Manning or Luck is a question mark. With RGIII being on a tier above the others left. We blew it, another year of shitty QB play. I think Garrard is the best sure option left. Might as well develop some1 we draft or see what Moore can do.
