NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

I just jumped out at my desk at work when I saw the ESPN news ticker come up...

I don't know if I should be excited as I am right now about basically signing a 36 year old QB, but dammit, I am.

An unfortunate side effect though is I think Tebow's days may be over as a Bronco, which is a bit of a shame. I kind of liked a few things that he could do (if he was able to stop fumbling the ball).

The new holy trinity.

Elway-The Father
Manning-The Son
Fox-The Holy Spirit

They're all looking down upon Tebow, the false prophet.

More filed to ESPN: And now that Peyton Manning has directed his agent to get deal done with Denver, Broncos will try to trade Tim Tebow.

MIA please.*

Wow, the Broncos is really the last place I would figure he'd go. Wow....

I'm a bit surprised as well. Arizona or Sf would've been a much better fit. But I never liked that nerdy ass dude anyway so I don't really care.

*wait no. MIA already has an awesome QB..well, I don't care where he goes as long as he plays.

I don't pay attention to the Broncos but who will he have to throw to? How about protection? Should have picked the Niners.

The Broncos offensive line is actually really good. Most of Tebow's sacks last year that he took were when he was running around int he pocket. The line couldn't keep up with all of his movement. They were built for a drop back passer (which is why Orton both last year and the year before) really didn't take too many sacks.

WTF why...why the Broncos, damn you Peyton. I was all ready to root for you this year while you go into F.U. mode and tear up the league but why the Broncos? You just daggered Tebow, who's a really fucking nice guy.

Feel a bit bad for Tebow, tbh.

Same

Yeah, I hope he lands a spot somewhere and gets an opportunity.

I was honestly interested in seeing if a real off-season would do his game any good.

Yep, this would've been his first real off-season. Throw the guy a bone

Wow, shocked he picked the broncos. They don't strike me as competing for a superbowl, even with him.

I've seen this a couple of times and I don't understand it. They were a playoff team and made it to the divisional round. Yeah the Pats blew them out, but to say they aren't competing for the SB is bold when a lot of times if things just break right and you avoid certain teams (Like how the Giants didn't have to play in NO) then you have a really strong shot.

Damn. The Broncos huh? Broncos just became a Superbowl favorite out of the AFC. Depending on how good they really are at the skill positions on offense.

Case, since you made the Pats picks last year, do you have anything you wanna tell us draft noobs how you did it last year and if you have any preferences and such.
Still have to see what other additions they make in FA, but I can imagine the focus will be on defense. Specifically OLB, DL, CB. Maybe a C or WR if a good one drops far enough.

Well let's not get crazy yet. They still have "ok" at best receivers and lost Royal and their TEs are pretty terrible. But yeah they improved a lot just by ditching Tebow.

If Denver can somehow sign Mike Wallace, they'd be set at WR

Mike Wallace = Deep threat
Demaryius Thomas = Big physical WR (potentially Brandon Marshall without the off-field issues)
Eric Decker - Slot WR

I like that nucleus a whole lot. They really do need to add a deep threat though.

We need someone to help shoulder McGahee's load running the ball, but otherwise, I really think that are offense just needed a legitimate passer to be effective. McGahee's old man legs are catching up to him (hence why quite a few times last year, he would break a tackle, and then get tackled 5 yards down the field by the same guy he planted to the ground at the line of scrimmage). Jeremiah Johnson may fill that role, but he didn't get enough touches for my liking to really know.

And Moreno is done for. His injury prone nature and fumble issues means that the chances of him really competting for snaps is pretty low.
