I feel bad for all the people in the giantbomb thread who were saying "didn't you see the interview, nothing is going to change!"
They are just going to be that much more heart broken when things do change. To be honest I think they lost a little magic when they moved out of that tiny basement. After the gamespot news broke I went back and watched some of the building a bomb videos. Man those early days were something
At the end of the day though Giantbomb being absorbed into Gamespot would still make an excellent site, just not quite as excellent as it once was, so I'm not worried. I swear though if they bring in a gamespoter into the podcast more often then they bring in Dave...
Anyway, this podcast skipped over the REAL news of that story - Jamie and Adam's Tested!
Absolutely. Which is why I don't really question their decision. It's just the natural point where your idealism clashes with reality. Happens to everyone eventually, I think.I have to wonder what realistic options did they have.

And it's one reason that I feel mixing your hobbies with your career can be perilous. At certain points along that path, your passion for the subject will butt heads with the need to generate revenue from it. It's a tough balance to strike.

After the news broke that wikia is the largest gaming website I think this purchase is as much about the giantbomb wiki as the personalities.
After seeing the fan reaction to Tested and people harassing Jamie and Adam on twitter I think the GB guys were smart to get out in front of everything. I wish they didn't have to but thats just the way the internet is I suppose. I still stand by giving Will a hard time for allowing "futurist" in a headline though
Personally I want giantbomb to change. Ideally in a year Giantbomb will be the brand name of gamespot videos and all the news, reviews and wiki will be moved to gamespot. Focus on what you are good at, flight sim quicklooks and tuesday podcasts.
After the news broke that wikia is the largest gaming website I think this purchase is as much about the giantbomb wiki as the personalities. I've never used it though
Isn't the Wikia thing announced very recently and the negotiations for the CBS buyout started Dec last year?
It may be an added bonus now for CBS. Unless the Wikia thing is older than i thought.
Thinking about it, its amazing how little of giantbomb I (and probably most people) used.
Remember when the site launched and the entire focus was the wiki?
Remember how the Giantbomb Not A Quick Look thread was about quests?
Do those even still exist? I still have no idea who the most important man in video games is :/
That reminds me of my favorite part of this episode:
mike: this kickstarter, subscription, donation stuff is such utter childish bullshit. Fuck all who would do it, lazy ass bums.
CJ: I'd like to thank the two people who donated to us this week

Haha! Even before we started talking about that stuff I'd planned to call out the two donations we got in the past week on the show (because we don't get that many and these two were from long-time listeners). I figured it would be funnier to mention it right then instead of the outro.![]()
P1P's donations aren't much like a kickstarter at all though...
Yeah, when you give money to a kickstarter you actually get something in return.
love the show
I think you mean the other way around? When P1P asks for donations it's "We're producing this content anyway, if you feel like giving us money you can."
Kickstarters are "Give us money if you want this and we'll try to make it if enough people do."

How does Leo LaPorte make money? Are his podcast ads enough?
Did Phil get his Vita yet? It's funny how years ago P1P was accused of hating on Sony versus now everyone is a Vita fanboy*.
It's really just Mike. I think he loves it far too much for what it actually offers. CJs pre-Vita purchase hate was spot on.

I literally play it every day, still. To the detriment of my Mass Effect progress, to be honest.
I wish I could find out. How is this not on the eShop?
I need to start an internet petition.
No. I get nothing in return for donating to P1P because they would make the show anyway.
If I fund a kickstarter, then I get something I want, some sort of reward, and my money back if the thing doesn't happen.
That said, I'm already sick of seemingly every niche video game thing being on kickstarter now even though I think the concept is fine.
Coming tomorrow. CJ and family were back in Illinois over the weekend, so he couldn't get it edited right away.Where's the new cast?
