Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Speaking of books, I sorta always wished Nintendo would release books based on events referenced in the Zelda games. Things like that Civil War prior to OoT, something that doesn’t directly involve Link being a hero but would still be interesting to know. Oh well. :/

AND AN INTERACTIVE TRANSLATED VERSION OF THE HYRULE HISTORIA AS AN NFC CARD WITH ZELDA U.

Who would write it? I don't want some shitty doujinshi or novelization, which happens way too often.

YES!

That's good a point. I don't think Nintendo wants badly written books attached to their name. Or the writers death by crazed zelda fans as a result.

Teh fuck?

Lemme dig up where I found it real quick.

EDIT: Ah! Found it! "Early Wii U kits were screens fixed onto planks of wood. Early DS kits only had one screen. Wii kits were actually GameCube kits with wired versions of the remotes - Nintendo hadn't determined whether the project would simply be an expansion of the GameCube or not. Nintendo 3DS prototypes didn't feature 3D at all. As Nintendo's designs evolved, developers were brought into the fold. "

Source.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I don't know if anyone noticed. I think there's plenty of evidence to back up that e-reader rumor. The Forgetthebox rumor itself says e-reader capabilities are coming to both Wii U and 3DS.

Check out this quote from Iwata back in June 2010:

http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/3DS/Nintendo+3DS/news.asp?c=21638

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Japanese publication Nikkei, “As you carry it with you while out and about, it will seek out and automatically connect with wireless LAN spots, and download information."

But what information will it download? Presumably not computer MAC addresses and bank details. Actually, Iwata hopes the device will be going out and grabbing the latest news for you. "We're thinking about functionality where it will automatically acquire newspaper and magazine articles."

While it sounds like Nintendo is encroaching on Apple’s turf, Iwata assures us in an interview with Venture Beat that he “never thought of [Apple’s products] when we were designing the 3DS.” The Nintendo chief does reveal he uses iPhones and iPods, but he isn’t in the business of directly competing with other companies.

“We should not narrowly define our competition as Apple, Sony or Microsoft. We have to think of what kinds of experiences we can create that only Nintendo can create.”.

Seems like Nintendo has been pondering e-reader functionality for a long time.

Nintendo published this game for DS in 2010: http://www.technologytell.com/gaming/54284/100-classic-books-ds-e-reader-out-in-june/

Nintendo’s early 2010 lineup contains 100 Classic Books, an interesting application that turns your DS into an e-reader with 100 books for only $19.99. It could be a boon for students, or people who just enjoy classic literature, when it debuts on June 14, 2010. Finally!

Nintendo hasn’t announced what books will be included in the collection. The press release mentions books and plays from Jane Austen, William Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Jules Verne, and Destructoid states that Dracula by Bram Stoker was mentioned at the Nintendo press conference when the program was announced. Team Teabag’s review of the European 100 Classic Book Collection offers a list of the 100 books that were in that version of the game, and could provide a hint as to what we’ll be seeing in the North American release. The image at the right is actually from the European version, 100 Classic Book Collection, and I’m guessing 100 Classic Books will look about the same.

The program has users holding the DS like a book, and turning pages, adjusting fonts, getting more information on the book or author and searching the in-game bookshelf by tapping and sorting through menus on the touch screen. The program also offers Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support, allowing users to download more free books as long as there’s enough space on the cartridge to do so.

EA tried doing e-reader stuff for DS too in 2009. And EA has been buddy buddy with Nintendo lately.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1232672/Nintendo-DS-launches-eReader-children.html

With the Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader and British-made Cool-er jostling for space in the crowded electronic books market, it was only a matter of time before a company created an eReader for children.
Step forward Flips - a range of interactive books designed

Each games cartridge includes six to eight books by a popular children's author. The first four titles will feature authors Enid Blyton and Cathy Cassidy, the Artemis Foul books and Too Ghoul for Cool series.
Children read the books on the DS touch screen and turn the pages by tapping it with the stylus.
Artemis Foul author Eoin Colfer said: 'I’m over the moon to see my stories and characters brought to life on the Nintendo DS with EA’s new FLIPS range.
'Everyone knows that reading improves literacy skills. I have two children who are DS fanatics and cannot wait for the Flips to arrive, so EA might finally get them reading my books!'

Also that Forgetthebox rumor talked about how Wii U could have digital versions of strategy guides.

Months later, Tekken producer saying the same thing:

We’re thinking about a different use for the second screen. I’ve often heard about or seen fighting-game players playing with a strategy guide open at their feet. So it would be useful if we could, for example, distribute an enhanced digital version of the guide that the player could see while playing, and even touch to have a live preview on the main screen."

UGH. I'm more upset about the poor NG3 reviews than I would have expected. I was really looking forward to that friggin game. Damn you team ninja. DAMN YOOUSE

And to think, that was the game that incited cheers during the Wii U sizzle reel. Awful.

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll fix the game in time for the Wii U
:D
:(
I made myself feel bad.

And remember, no matter how bad NG3 is, it makes one thing for certain....

DEAD OR ALIVE 5

Ayane usually looks sexy as all hell, but WHAT IS THAT. She looks awkward. 0_O Hope that's a beta model.
But goddamn. Dat bitchface Kasumi

I like the new look. They both look distinctively more like ACTUAL Japanese women might look (clothes and hair aside), instead of fucking dolls.

And I dunno about the rest of you, but I'm getting a right good giggle out of the next-gen pricing thread.

"next Xbox and PS4 will be $400+, but I DEMAND bleeding-edge tech!" Oh boy... people will never learn, will they?

DOA5 looks good, I hope they don't fuck it up like NG3..

It will be interesting to see if NG3 is actually better on Wii U, could mean more support for it if it does well on the Wii U, I wouldn't mind the stylus controlled version either, though I would hope it is only as an option, since the entire game is already mapped to a standard controller.

If they're bringing in Virtua Fighter fans with a playable Akira, they must think that the game is PERFECT. VF fans are some of the most weirdly particular fans in fighting game fandom.

Why? Pretty much every 2-4 year-old I know here uses one, which is no surprise given there's a metric tonne of AppStore content targeted at that demographic. Fact is, she loves Fruit ninja and the myriad of $.90-a-pop 'cooking' games.

Coming from a guy that usually is rather down to earth and logical in his posts, but...

Why?

Well, there's a big difference between a 2 and a 4 year old for starters. A 2 year old also does not understand the value of things, thus you can't punish or reprimand her if she breaks something she was never supposed to be having, unsupervised - if at all, in the first place. That means you're going to be having a hard time getting her to take care of valuable things once she finally does understand. Why should she, she never has (/had to) before. Also the argument that since every 2-4 year old "there" uses one, means it's supposed to be ok? Obviously, everybody is entitled to raise their kids as they see fit, so you do what you think is right. I'm just giving my opinion based on personal experience and what i'd like to think is logical. You did ask: "why?" :)

There won't be any leaks until the day before E3 as usual

Nahh I dont think so, I'm sure that there will be one or the other leak -> only thing is will the leaks be enough for us??

But that is not what makes someone sad (cos normally it is (was) fun to read all these pages...

has this been posted yet? It's a sample of the magazine that let's you read the article.

http://issuu.com/sarahdean87/docs/nintendo_gamer_73_sampler

Nothing of any value, looks like.

That was a freaking waste of time. Most of the info was taken from last E3 + some rumours from IGN and that Develop article. They know even less than us :/

When's the AC3 'exclusive' reveal? Not that I expect anything from it. Most likely the same information given out already.

I'm starting to second guess the Wii U. Any third party title worth playing will probably show up on PS3, and the 3DS has a ton of Nintendo titles for me to play through. Seriously there's 4 marios and 4 zeldas I've yet to play.

Also the Wii U isn't offering anything new. The above combo gives me HD/3D/Touchscreen/Motion, etc.

FF14 relaunching at the end of the year

I think sony got a deal with it but so :/
Not that I know of. It was shown first at their E3 conference, but I think the only reason it wasn't announced for Xbox 360 is MS is less willing to bend their own rules to get it on board than they were with FF XI.

I'm second guessing it because it seems there's a trickle of third parties unwilling to work on it (Kojima for one).

All to familiar situation for me to buy this system.

But can that combo let you do all of that in one game?

Hmm.. I'm thinking a week or two before. First, it'll be small stuff.. and then someone's gonna come forward with a rumor about one of the big final secrets that sounds outrageous, and we'll laugh, and it'll end-up being true.

I'm hoping that they keep the big secrets safe for the show. It'd be much more memorable if everyone is going-in with no idea..

Hi all, just thought i'd post this, probably old and most likely bullshit :D

However, I do think there is a possiblity of Nintendo getting WoW onto the Wii-U, I just found it strange that they (nintendo) gave so much credence to WoW at one of their conferences last year.

Anyway, here's the link, like I said, probably bullshit :p
