This video sold me on Ouendan

I busted my DS screen doing those damn wheel segments. But it's all good because I suckered the GameStop guy into taking my broken system without him knowing and giving me the full trade in value while snatching the new DS Lite. Long Live Ouendan!

As much as I love this game, I can't stand playing it in public because of the spinning wheel segments, I look like such an ass. I was on the train earlier today and the giggling school girls opposite me (who were intent on paying me a bit too much attention) would burst into laughter every time I had to spin.

I've had this game for 10 months and I still haven't finished Cheer Girl mode yet.

The best level, imo, is the one where you help the ghost and his depressed widow. I love that one. :D
I love that one too. :D

I hope iNiS does a similar level in the English version.

Not sure if this has been posted before but if you buy Ouendan from YesAsia, make sure you put in the coupon code OSU5 because you get $5 off.

The coupon you entered cannot be used! The coupon either does not exist, is already expired, cannot be used with the products from your order or is linked to a different customer account.

That's weird I just bought a copy with that code. I found it on another forum and it was posted June 3rd.

Did you make sure it's capital OSU?

You guys missed my auction when I sold my

- pure white ds import
- ouendan
- mario & luigi
- mkds
- acds
- sonic
- meteos

Ouendan is one of the best imports out there - it's definiteley worth the price, even if you plan on getting that NA version down the road. It's simple to pickup and play and it's very import friendly in addition to being the mot addictive ds game on the market.

How the hell do you say the title of this game?

Wen-dan!?

:(

Also, how do you know what speed your supposed to do the sliders at? Or the order?

Once I know the answers, this game is as good as mine. The music is awesome.

Ooh-en-dan.

As for the sliders, basically you are only following the ball, you don't choose your own speed. Go too slow or too fast and you will miss the ball. IIRC all sliders are at the same speed so you get pretty used to it.
And by order I think you mean the order of the circles? Well you go through a numerical order.

In all the videos I've seen of Ouendan, it seems like the stylus movements don't have much to do with the music -- the clicks aren't in time to the music or anything. Is this an accurate characterization of the gameplay, or is it just that the people playing it in the videos aren't very good at it? :)

This gets much better the further you get into the game. I finally went back and started playing the third difficulty, and am loving the game even more now. The hits in this mode are much more based on the actual beat and notes of the songs, and to be honest, I almost find it easier because of that. As opposed to before, where they made the hits fit in at different times, on this difficulty I'm hitting things along to the song where I would naturally assume to hit them.

So, I almost feel like the game doesn't truly "begin" until you unlock and start playing the third difficulty mode.

God, Ouendan is awesome. And I feel so elitist having imported a game.

Makes me think of my thread about dames that Gaf has succeeded or failed you for.

Gaf has failed me many times for games, but Ouendan is one sweet victory.

Favourite game for the Ds, and I never thought that would be...I'm such a sucker for ninty's games normally.

Oic. Thanks. :D

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
When are they coming out in the US? If they're not, why?

For those still new to the game, here's another video for you: just for the hell of it, I recorded the stage for Linda Linda (my favorite song from the game). I got a bit sloppy with some of the hits, but hey. This is on the third difficulty level.

Linda Linda (QuickTime MOV)

Oh, and the dot you sometimes see isn't a dead pixel on my Lite, it's a piece of dust in my camera. I keep meaning to send it in to get fixed, and keep forgetting.

I don't think I like the USA version as much.

This game just doesn't seem as cool and wacky without themes and vocals I can't understand. Hearing the zany music and wacky pictures makes more sense than actually understanding the story and lyrics.

You've got more acute hearing than I if you can understand what they're saying in "Walkie Talkie Man".

This is the worst kind of Japanophilia.

I know it is odd, because I pretty much loathe most games which come out of Japan nowadays.

I would probably like Elite Beat Agents more if it is sponored by John Madden and featured EA TRAX.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

Why did that Elite Beat Agents video take 10 minutes just to get to actual gameplay? Disgusting.

Which one? One of them was of the training stage, so you know, you can't really fault that one for things going a bit slow.

after all the hype this game has gotten from this forum and seeing it for the first time in video, i have to say i was disappointed. the music turned me off completely.

One question - how much of the top screen animation do you miss because of the dragging, spinning, and tapping?

Top-screen animations looked awesome - does this game have a Tetris DS syndrome in the sense that you completely miss what's going on on the top screen?

That's what the replay mode is for.

And hey I'm glad my thread sold a few people on the game, I wasn't expecting that :)

Now that Lite Fever has hit me I think I may actually pull the trigger on this. I've been wavering because I'm like "$50... :(" but seeing these videos. Must have.

Without even knowing you, I can say without a doubt that Ouendan is better than many if not most video games that you have spent $50 on in the past.

This is money you can put towards madden 07 though!

I'm probably going to buy it too, but I spoiler this in the hopes Kobun doesn't read this because he may hold this over me. I have my manly sports gamer rep to maintain!

I hope the DSLite stylus makes the difference because I suck terribly at cheering girls mode. 8 more days :)

The best level is:

All of them.

Though I personally like:

Kokoro Odoru
Linda! Linda!
One Night Carnival
Shanghai Honey
Over the Distance
Loop & Loop

I had never seen this game in motion prior to last night. I must say, it looks like crazy amounts of fun! And it seems so silly, which is definitely a good thing. I'm going with my folks on a business trip to Japan in a couple months, so I planned to pick this up then, though seeing it, I almost can't wait! I can really (and finally) see what all the fuss is about.

It cracks me up to see the people yell "OU-EN-DAN!" at the beginning of each song. Elite Beat Agents "Help!" is going to pale in comparison (though the game should still be awesome).

Ouendan has become one of my favorite games, some levels are hard, but when you keep playing and after a long time finish it, then you feel like you've conquered the world xD

Do you have to poke each number or are you supposed to drag the stylus?
Some of both. If it's just a circle with a number on it, you tap it. If it's a circle with a number attached to a bar, you drag along the bar. If there's a U-turn type arrow at the end of the bar you bounce back, sometimes repeatedly.
