The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

I'm actually really hoping for an Armored Core V quick look. I realize it's more niche but it looks interesting and I'm trying to see if it's something I could get into.

I don't why, but I have a suspicion that some pro could photoshop that avatar picture of Big Bo, to look like Jeff.

Speaking of Big Ass ramp, after watching the quick look "best of" montages on youtube I wanted to check again some 50cent stuff... It's weird, they made a video review of Blood on the sand but no quicklook!? wtf

The big ass ramp thing was brought up in the QL of that one Vin Diesel game, can't remember what it's called though

You know you're in a Giantbomb thread when people describe games as "janky".

It's a valid term! :lol

Binary Domain does look good- seems like a mixture of Japan's weird view of American action tropes, and some Blade Runner-style "who's the robot" mystery. But playing it for 40 minutes from the start probably isn't going to give the best impression of any game coming out of Japan recently.

Watching the comment count I'm wondering how much extra exposure Binary Domain got for being the first Quick look after the acquisition.

Brad did not know Hungarian was an actual language? lol

Is the story or lore interesting enough? If it is, might be my gateway to shoot-em-ups.

Eh Americans seem to be pretty terrible at recognizing different languages in general. On the Bombcast Jeff even said he first thought it was German. WTF? They sound nothing alike.

Most Americans aren't exposed to many languages. If they heard Spanish I bet they would recognize it because they do encounter that.

Would Europeans be able to differentiate the different Asian languages?

hell, i'm american and i was shocked by jeff's statement. german is pretty easily recognizable and you're right, it sounds nothing like hungarian.

as for this game, i loved the trial. i'll probably pick it up friday after i get paid. just bought a new dishwasher, garbage disposal, weedeater and cell phone this week. all tapped out at the moment. wallet needs a recharge.

I can. ;)

I bought the game yesterday after I watched theQL and read some of the glowing reviews. This game is really good. It has been a while since a side scrolling shooter has gotten me this excited. I can only recommend picking it up.

it's another hour and a half until 8 on the west coast.

It said 2pm local for me but it isn't up. I guess the timetable is fucked up because of DST? We change our clocks on Sunday.

To be fair, Hungarian is a pretty unique case as far as European languages are concerned, as it's not derived from Indo-European and shares (and sounds) basically nothing like these. Finnish is another case like that.

That said, I'm all for bashing ignorant Americans so go ahead. :p

Sine Mora looks like a solid shooter, too bad it's 360 exclusive.

I'm American, have never taken classes on an east Asian language nor have much exposure to east Asian language speaking people, but I can easily pick out Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Beyond that though, no clue.

The way they were talking about the Hungarian language in that QL and the bombcast desreve a thousand faceplams.

and its funny nevertheless

Why? Do you think most Americans have ever heard Hungarian?

It's not exactly a prolific language, would europeans be able to pick out a cajun accent if they heard it?

Exactly. Unless you can easily by accent distinguish between someone from Maryland, Boston, Tennese, Minnesota, Texas, and New York you really need to STFU with the endless "Hurr Hurr 'mericans can't instantly recognize Hungarian." FFS.

That was beside the point.

I am all for having second thought about a certain langauge if you never recognise it. However, the way they went on and on about it being close to german and not being a real language (and a made langauge for the game? WTF) was just beyond silly.

Stop being offended about us having a go about American ignorance. It just cheek-in-tongue (is that the right way of saying that term?)

Also, that Cajun comparison is silly, you might as well say bring Barbarian into the equation. Hungarian is a very original language that is not derived from any origin, but its hardly a niche language.

Good point.

Personally speaking, I am rubbish at this whole ''recognising languages'' so I am gonna go and try to diffrentiate people from Newcastle and Sunderland.

Accents are kind of a silly comparison. You probably can't recognize different German accents either.

According to this list on Wikipedia, there are 12.5 million people who speak Hungarian worldwide. I'd say that's almost the precise definition of "a niche language."

More people speak Azerbaijani.
