The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Ryyaaaaannnn!

On-foot sections of Kid Icarus(which seemingly make up the bulk of the game) look BAD. It's like Sakurai designed this game in a vacuum without ever taking a look at a competent third-person shooter.

I'm also surprised that it actually really does require the stand. How can you design a game like this?

Not a big fan of Kid Icarus. The rail shooter sections look fine, but the on-foot sections looked pretty bad. Clumsy controls and camera problems galore.

As much as I love Sakurai, it seems like that's a pretty common problem with Japanese studios in general.

No, they're awesome. I'm sure Brad made the whole game look like shit, though. Anticipating his three star review.

You just know Sakurai actually plays modern TPSs too, so it is a bit odd. Looks like both a constraint of the platform and the style of game he was going for clashed heavily.

I still think it looks good, but probably takes a lot of getting used to. Also, hey, they have 3DS capture gear back.

Brad didn't have anything to do with it. Apparently he really likes the game, except when his hands cramp up. :P

Yeah, I watched it. It's kind of weird that he doesn't know how to dash properly after 5 levels, but whatever. Also, it's hilarious that he doesn't know how any of the ancillary stuff works.

HOLY SHIT

THIS GAME USES THE REWARDS GRID FROM KIRBY AIR RIDE

I had no interest in this game until the moment that reward grid popped up on screen. Now I am buying it.

Check Kid Icarus thread last night. Couldn't find negative impressions.

Check giant bomb thread...

I don't know why he'd do a quick look of it after such a short amount of time. He barely has a clue on how anything works.

I don't even have a 3DS, but argh. The AR bit... God Brad.

But one thing: I thought people were saying the dialogue was good? It sounds like dialogue you'd see in a Pokémon episode.

Holy shit, does the Pokemon anime have dialogue like this now? WHY AM I NOT WATCHING IT

That's Sakurai for ya.

The version of it in Brawl was a poor shadow of Kirby Air Ride.

I am so angry right now. Why was I not informed!? The entire internet let me down. I could have preordered from Amazon and gotten the game yesterday along with the free 3D Classics original. Damn you, internet! And damn you, Nintendo marketing! You are supposed to advertise features like this!

Kid Icarus seems neat, it's a shame it's on 3DS and not Wii/WiiU with those controls.

Also Brad was at his worst in this QL, you can actually visualize common sense leaving the room during that video.

Wait, I don't really get the complaints. He seems.. fine? Or at least as someone who hasn't played the game yet he didn't seem to do anything glaringly dumb for someone who's probably still learning the game.

Mind explaining what exactly I was missing that didn't have to do with the pretty awful way we had to record this?

I did forget that thumb thing even existed until Drew mentioned it. I can see that helping with some control issues.

I forgot the original ds was so goddamn big.

I used it once for metroid prime hunters then never touched it again. I knew some kid that swore by it though.

Because OTs for big-name games are where you find measured discourse on a game's merits and flaws? Seriously.

There's always a 'oh this is not what I was expecting. I'm going to try and return this tomorrow or else I've wasted sixty bucks. Gaf hype failed again.' or a 'why do people like this again? Y'all should be playing x, y, or z.'

Edit: LuchaShaq did it for me I see.

This is common here, thinking the GB guys know everything about every game without even touching it.

Because nerds get angry when someone doesn't play a game exactly like they do.

Most of the questions are answered by the game when you first encounter it, but Brad did say he didn't read/listen to them. Probably because they were trying to get this quick look up in the middle of the moving in madness, so meh.

The game can be overwhelming too since it's so dense. They didn't even get into the control customization stuff. The option to have the game automatically shoot can make it more comfortable since you don't need to press the L button. The ground sections are still really awkward thanks to the weird camera control though.

And watching that boss fight was weird. I have no idea why the orbs weren't hitting the boss when you shot them. When I played it they hit the boss right away.
