NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

I'm sure trades have been nullified countless times. We just didnt hear about it before twitter meant 30 seconds news updates destroyed fact checking and confirming before breaking news.

Fuck this shit. Suspending him for a whole season is a disgrace.

I think about 100 bounty tackles from a bunch of 250 pound line backers is more appropriate with each player getting more money the harder the hit. Then let him coach in a wheel chair next season.

Unfortunate? You can't possibly think it was a good trade for us.

Um yes.

Go look up 4th round picks in the last 5 years. It's not exactly like they are ripe for success in the NFL.

Tebow would have been the Jets best goal line back and the best short yardage option at the very worst. And quite possibly the best QB on the roster as well.

Fucking Roger Goodell. That's a ridiculous punishment. I can't wait to find out how every team's coach gets banned for a year.

I think the whole saints thing is complete garbage. One year of Payton being suspended is more than enough. Adding on freaking half a million dollars and future picks is insane. If the super bowl wasn't in Nola this year i bet Payton gets 6 months.

I was blown away when I heard about the bullets that Goodell doled out today. I kind of figured the story would get swept under the rug and dealt with in some sort of relatively low-key fashion, at some point I think I started laughing at the sheer breadth of this. The eject button has basically been pushed on the Saints' 2012 season already, I'm curious to see how this shakes out for the rest of the league too, as I'm sure some more finger-pointing will go on at some point.

Also, Tebow to the Jets would be the most hilarious story of the offseason. Tossing a cup of holy water into an oil drum fire, that is.

This isn't the first time Payton, Loomis, and the Saints have disobeyed the Commish.

He was always going to bring the hammer down here.

We're back! Nice.

Saints were demolished. My guesstimate on punishment ended up being ULTRA conservative. Holy shit. Goodell dropped the hammer.

Jets still trying to get Tebow? :jnc What a fucking circus that would be.

This offseason is turning out better than last year when you add in Peyton to the Broncos..

Man, some salty gaffers in here. Punishment fits the crime, get that shit out of the league. Don't play the pussy "BUT EVERYONE DOES IT" card.

NFL is better now than it was this morning.

So glad the Saints are the darling of the NFL anymore. It will be nice to hear about the bounty program every time they play instead of Katrina or how amazing Drew Brees is.

I would just like to say, that I'm practically unbeatable with the Denver Broncos on Madden 11 Xbox live with Tim Based-Tebow as my starting QB...It's a 73 ranked team...So that means he must be god like in real life right?

I've been doing field work since Sunday with limited access to the net, I imagine its been a slow week thus far in NFL world. Could someone give me the headlines?

With the 29th Pick in the NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens Select Peter Konz OG/C Wisconsin

With Grubbs gone and Matt Birk declining we need help on the interior line. Konz will play LG till next season when Birk gets cut or loses the jobs. And with Knoz being the best player at the position no way doesn't Ozzie not snatch him up.

7-11 is coming here!!

WHERE !!!!

2. Payments were made for plays such as interceptions or fumble recoveries. All such payments are against league rules. Payments also were made for plays on which opposing players were injured. In addition, specific players were sometimes targeted. The investigation showed bounties being placed on four quarterbacks of opposing teams – Brett Favre, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers, and Kurt Warner. Multiple sources have confirmed that several players pledged funds toward bounties on specific opposing players, with defensive captain Jonathan Vilma offering $10,000 to any player who knocked Brett Favre out of the NFC Championship Game in 2010.
You sons of bitches.

Also, Vilma gonna get some of Payton's action.

Lol yeah I'm sure you'd be saying the same thing if it was your team. You people are ridiculous. It's fine to hate on the bandwagoners that hopped on the superbowl run. But acting like this is a fair punishment is completely different.

WHERE !!!!

One store is going to be on Duval rd by the airport.Idk where any others will be.They said 80 stores by 2015.

b/c Kraft, Rooneys, Maras and a couple of other owners run the league office. There is a grown ups table at the league meetings, and a little kids table. Benson doesn't sit next to Bob Kraft . . .

The Rams owner doesn't actually go to the meetings anymore b/c he was insulted by the whole thing. It's why I'm certain he's trying to move them to LA. All about ego. LA market forces the league to give him the juice he wants

Rams are backpedaling on Tebow and saying media is overstating their interest. They say they are just looking for a backup QB. Obviously doesn't pass the smell test

That's what I don't like about any of these punishments. They don't apply to everyone. I look forward to the day that it blows up in their faces. I'm all for discipline, but be consistent and fair.

I'd be pretty fucking ashamed and embarassed if my team/staff did it.

What punishment would have been fair, in your mind?

Its pretty fucked up in light of the fact that we are just fans of the team. I didnt fucking call for bounties or tell these guys to do these things. as a fan of the team I have to suffer the consequences because my teams management was stupid. But if that's how it has to be, so be it. Am I salty? fuck yes I'm salty. My team s fucked. you would all be salty.

-Peyton to the Broncos.
-Alex re-signs with the Niners.
-Tebow to the Jets, until they actually read the contract.
-Saints punishment includes loss of draft picks, Payton banned for a year.

Etc.

This is a fair punishment. It's really easy to sit in a comfortable living room and say shit like "the game needs to go back to its gritty roots...people need to toughen up" Many Retired NFL players have serious long term physical issues, short life spans, and serious brain injuries. It's quite frankly, fucking pitiful, that dudes making MILLIONS of dollars would go out and intentionally try to injure a player for the game or the season for something like $1,500.00 bucks.

Many NFL players don't have guaranteed contracts, many get waived when injured without pay...it's fucked up to go out of your way to injure someone, affect his life in a pretty serious way, have him lose millions, so you can earn $1,500.00 on top of your millions.

Respecting the game means respecting good sportsmanship...tough hard tackles are fine. the after the play egregious tackles they were doing on Favre and others is just pitiful, leads to serious injuries, and the fines and penalties are fair.

Belichick was fined half a million and the Pats lost a first rounder. Saints don't have a first this year so two seconds is kind of equivalent. Only difference is that Belichick was never suspended.

A 4th, and 7th, plus 5 mill for a player that is currently playing the wrong position and a 6th in return. No way he would beat Sanchez for the job during the off-season. If he is willing to play another position it is worth it if the 5 mill isn't involved.

Would be giving up waaaaay too much. I would keep the picks and save the 5 mill.

Oh my god, the NBA thread needs to be opened up ASAP. Fucking vag is in here spewing his usual shit.

And the evidence somehow got "lost" by "The League".

All this high and mighty bullshit goes out the window with me when the punishments are consistent.
